The mail force behind all of this is Governor Crist. Vote for his opponent if you want your medication. I too amm totally disabled and this is discrimination. I have a letter with phone numbers to call if pharmacists say certain that they are not supposed to say. It is called disabledpainadvocate. Good luck!

Not Crist. That was the last Govenor. It is Scott but you are right. Vote against him and maybe we can get back our rights to get meds. Go to all of his campaign sites and write about how his brother is an addict and a pill mill owner that is Still in business but our doctors can not even write our scripts to be filled at a pharmacy.

Hi,
It wasn't my husband messaging you, although I can see there are hundreds in the same situation and I'm sure all as desperate as we are. My heart goes out to you with all of your problems, I can imagine the frustration you are forced to tolerate. It is an inhumane situation and I'm sure the big wigs can get their meds just as all the gov't. officials get the best insurance while many of the uninsured pick up the tab for it. The insurance companies and the banks are running this country now, and the middle class is fast dissapearing. We get poorer with less options available for us.

Hello my name is paul i live in st.pete fl. Having the same issues other people are having. What upsets me the most is i have insurance that is useless, if you tell the mom & pop pharms you have cash the are more than willing to price gouge us the patients just cant afford to pay $2,000 a month. How come the dea isnt cracking down on these pharmacys. The people who can afford to pay that much money must not need them & can sell them on the streets, can find them quicker on the streets before you can @ a pharmacy, its an outrage. Anything i can do to help legit people in p

I went to a real doctor too! But it turned to be a "pill mill" I can assure you, my doctorwas like all the rest ive been too. I wish you would direct in a different way since all the people who went to a doctor and paid each month thought just as me"well, getting my pain taken care of" and as careful as he was i am shocked at what happened. But there were alot of legit patients suffering out here and doctors are afraid to help new patients anymore,,ore is very hard to find.

For those of us who have been fortunate enough to continue getting our Rx through Walgreens, the DEA has just (in last day or two) suspended the distribution of all controlled substances from its Jupiter plant. While I have been lucky enough to get my Rx through Walgreens, each month has seen a delay with shipments...to the point I'm close to running up next to my following months Dr.s appointment.

The DEA continues to deny it is pressuring Drs or pharmacists in how they dispense, yet each suspension or closure obviously has an impact on the availability of these drugs...and the willingness of Drs and pharmacists to dispense the medication. How long will this continue?

There is no doubt that the computer monitoring system and recent raids on pill-mills have had a dramatic impact on diversion. PM doctors in Florida are fleeing the state for other states like Georgia, while pharmacists are dictating what and how much they will fill from a Drs prescription.

They've done their job; statistics are showing the immediate impact of these policy shifts. Yet, the DEA continues to push and pressure to the point that every pain patient is in one way or another effected by these decisions. It's time to let legitimate pain patients resume their lives, instead of being treated like criminals...or resorting to methods that may make them one.

AMEN...I ONLY HOPE YOU ARE CORRECT AND THEY STOP TREATING LEGIT CHRONIC PATIENTS AND LABELING US AND TREATING US LIKE DRUG AADDICTS AND ITS TIME FOR THE DEA TO EASE UP ON LEGIT PATIENTS AND ALLOW US TO HAVE ACCESS TO THE MEDS FREELY LIKE ANY OTHER DRUG FILLED.

"According to the DEA, the Walgreen facility has become the largest distributer of oxycodone products in Florida."
---------------------
Compared to what/who? These broad statements are pi**ing me off. Along with Arizona, Florida has one of the largest populations of Senior citizens...that is, aging people. Heck, Florida was/is the retirement capital of the country. As a result, Florida has a larger population of people who suffer from chronic, debilitating illnesses, including terminal illnesses like cancer. This statistic, alone, would make Florida an unusually high consumer of pain medications.

When the DEA decides to target distribution centers for closure it is only natural that another plant might have to fill this void. I'm not saying that the plant in Jupiter is innocent of what could be some nefarious dealings. However, just being the largest distributor is not enough. The DEAs own actions by closing these centers are forcing others to take up the slack. All the posts here clearly indicate a problem with supply meeting demand, that someone has to fix. But instead of addressing this obvious problem, the DEA is adding to it by removing one more distributor. Give me a break.

Hi, Have you been able to find any place in Ft.Myers/Cape Coral that is filling the prescriptions? My husband feels that they are profiling him and denying him. I've tried to explain that alot of you guys are having the same issues. My husband has gone to same doc for about 18 yrs. Same medication oxy 30's or something similar for just about as long- oxy 30's for quite some time now. Insurance wouldn't pay for oxycontin. He had to pay over $1,000 for 30 pills. We just can't afford that. He needs meds to work. Has an inoperable 60 degree curvature of the spine with rhuematoid arthritis and other complications. At night he can't straighten up. He's no spring chicken- he just got on medicare a couple of years ago and supposedly has the best med coverage they offer. Our whole lives are consumed by worry about his getting something for pain. He is using patches now. Can't take morphine because he had bad reactions, hives, etc. I agree about DEA, I did alot of research on internet. He has not been in trouble with the law, his doc is good, no probs, I just don't get it. But he knows a guy who getws them on Sanibel, but that pharmacy is not taking new clients. Apollo says he can't get them. He thinks he is on some kind of list where they are not giving him the oxy's. Any opinion on this?

Becca does his medicare part d ins have mail order pharmacy? Check into it. I send my to Tele-med in Horsham, PA. I have Cignature RX ins. It costs me $2.50 for 150, Dilaudid 8mg. I get 2 scrips a month. My Dr. writes my scrips earlier than needed so I have to time to mail them to PA. It takes about 5-6 days to send and get it back. The script is sent back as signature required. You can get it faster but it costs like 18 bucks. I am on a limited income and can't afford that. I will keep sending scrips threre as long as they keep sending them. I figure with the company being in PA and not FL it is easier to get. Look and see what his part d coverage is and look for the mail order pharmacy. Let me know what you find and if you can get it fillled that way. for me it works and as long as it works I am not going to knock it.

If your husband ,is paying 1000 dollars for 30 pills , he's being ripped off CVS if you have there discount card you can get 60 for I want to say 80 dollars or less.if he can find, Im in the same boat as many , I have a real doctor , not pain clinic..pill mills. I own my own business ,but in tons of hours ,but I have a bone disease and have had a few surgeries and will need hip replacement, but when cvs says they havent had an order in 3 weeks ,makes me wonder if the new drug dealers are the pharmist, doing back door selling.

Today in USA today-

The DEA accused Walgreens on Friday of endangering public safety and barred the company from shipping oxycodone and other controlled drugs from its Jupiter, Fla., distribution center.

The move is the latest action by the Drug Enforcement Agency in a crackdown on pharmaceutical companies, drug distributors and drugstore chains that sell large amounts of highly addictive narcotics. Earlier this week, the DEA revoked the controlled substances licenses for two CVS pharmacies in Sanford, Fla., accused of dispensing excessive amounts of oxycodone.

Abuse of prescription narcotics is an epidemic, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Overdose deaths from opiod pain relievers account for more deaths than heroin and cocaine combined.

The DEA says Walgreens failed to maintain proper controls to ensure it didn't dispense drugs to addicts and drug dealers. Large increases in narcotic sales could be a sign that drug addicts and dealers are using fake prescriptions to purchase the drugs, the agency says. The addicts and dealers often get the prescriptions from clinics, known as "pill mills," where doctors prescribe the drugs after only cursory examinations.

Six of Walgreens' Florida pharmacies ordered more than a million pills a year, the DEA said. In 2011, the average pharmacy in the U.S. ordered 73,000 oxycodone tablets a year.

One pharmacy in Fort Myers went from ordering 95,800 pills in 2009 to 2.2 million pills in 2011, the DEA said. Another pharmacy in Hudson, a town of 34,000 people near Clearwater, purchased 2.2 million pills in 2011, the DEA said.

Walgreens said in a statement that it has taken steps to bolster its monitoring and reporting of controlled substance purchases. The number of tablets dispensed by its pharmacies dropped 35% from June 2011 to March 2012, the company said.

"We take our obligations under the Controlled Substances Act very seriously," the company said.

The DEA issues immediate suspension orders when it believes a registrant, such as a pharmacy or a doctor, is "an imminent danger to the public safety."
