Updated

Cannot fill them anywhere in Bradenton or Sarasota. Please help I have a real doctor and the pharmacy I have been going to the past year in my city says they will no longer fill out of county. Does anyone know of a pharmacy in Bradenton or Sarasota that can help a patient fill qty 180 oxycodone 30mg? Please help. On the verge of getting deathly ill w/out meds! Thank you.

The Rx crisis in Florida for pain patients is now having dangerous and potentially deadly consequences. The two largest Rx chains (CVS and Walgreens) are making up their own rules WRT dispensing pain medicine in the state. Sadly, not every pharmacy within those chains even follows their own guidelines. For example, the Walgreens near me (WinterSprings) will no longer fill Rx's from doctors who don't accept health insurance and they are imposing a 90-pill limit, requiring the Drs. to reduce the patient by 10 each month until 90 is met.Â

While I have been more fortunate than some since my doc takes insurance, my neighbor and some friends he knows who go to the same doc are not ably to fill their Rxs. He has been looking for a week now and has been told there are none in stock...or they won't fill for his Dr. This is a monthly event trying to track down their medicine. ÂEven the Walgreens that I've used for almost 15 years now tells me that my Dr. shouldn't be prescribing me 15/30mg Oxys together since they are both immediate release. They won't consider that I take the two together to get the level of relief I need. Ironic, since they've never had a problem in the past...when I was even on a larger dose. ÂFortunately, another Walgreens near my wife's work will fill them...though they won't even do it on the same day; I have to wait 14 days to fill the other half.Â

Other new rules include living within the same zip code as the pharmacy...and having a Dr. that practices within 15 miles of one. I hope Donna can get something done with the support of all of us. These new rules are not laws and are the result of paranoid pharmacists who've watched their fellow employees lose jobs as the DEA raids and shuts down other pharmacies. They've obviously found it more difficult to prosecute the Drs and have decided to target both the pharmacies and distributors through intimidation. This has got to stop; Florida has over-compensated for the pill problem and is now endangering the lives of legitimate pain patients.Â

I have a place people can fill oxycodone in central florida. i heard they take insurance and i am going there next week, They get their shipment next week. Take I-75 to the Sun City exit. Use the A exit. Go into the heart of Sun City. You will see a Walgreens but your key is the CVS across the street. Behind the CVS is a durg store. The CVS blocks the view from the road but it is on the South side. A husband and wife run it. Go in and tell them Vince and William told you to go there. I heard they fill for everyone.

First, let me start by saying, I sympathize with all who are in pain. I live in severe pain. I was on oxycodone 30mg for about 5 years. Due to not being able to get them filled anywhere in Lee county, I had my Dr. change my meds to percocet. Which after taking 30mg at a time for 5 yrs, then droping to 10mg at a time, needless to say...I don't get much relief. I went to the Dr. last week, now I can't find the percocets anywhere in Fort Myers or Cape Coral. Everywhere I go, they say they are out and have no idea when they will get them in. Or, we will not fill for your Dr's office. What is going on? Does anyone know? My quality of life is being greatly affected. It's hard for me to enjoy my 9 month old grandson, clean my house, even function at all some days. Does anyone have any suggestions? Like a different med I can try, or know of somewhere to fill that will take prescription insurance or discount cards? I would really like to change back to the 15mg oxycodone so I can at least function. But I haven't been able to find those even before the 30mg seemed to disappear.

MARMS29 we all have been having problems getting scripts filled. What I do know is.. I am in Pinellas Co. FL

1) Go to the same RX..if they tell you no we have none..ask them when will the truck be in? then cont. to go or call everyday about that shipment~they can hear and see that you are functioning and not *drugged* up

2) always go dressed nicely~Pharmacists say they do not profile..Yes they do like anyone else would

3) Be polite and respectful~even if they are not~ avoid any confrontations.. you will lose.

4) IF you do find a RX that fills your script.. Ask them if they could put a notation under your name in the computer [for ex.] Customer is Safe, Fill his scripts, No problems w/customer etc.
that way if you happen to go and your "regular" pharm is away the fill-in can read what the other pharm has done, and will hopefully cont to fill your scripts.

5)the Florida drug monitoring system E-Force is suppose to be checked by Pharmacists and Dr.s IF they would do that just maybe all of this craziness of driving around for several hrs looking for an emphatic soul to fill your scripts for regular customers would not be happening.

6) Some people have even taken in their Medical Records, MRI's and all to show the Pharmacists that they are legit..
I personally think that is too far to prove that my husband has been taking the meds for several years with the same Doctor and the same pharmacy every month only to have to do the Pharmacy Crawl every month.

There are many people that have even elderly and young that have dilapidated conditions some are obvious to the eye (ex. no legs) EVEN they have been turned away that's a true fact! the male looked like he had seen better days in the way he dressed and unshaven.. He was for sure profile even though he had no legs.. no legs!! the young pharm wouldn't even look at the script.
some have hidden conditions, that are not obvious to the eye That does not mean they do not needs meds. but the *some* pharmacist know better than the Dr i suppose

good luck on getting your scripts filled..

All us legit cpp need to stand....sit...crawl...lay...what ever together....there has to be a way to contact the DEA or the suites that run the big chain pharms and let them know how they are hurting people....I thought after this whole monitering system was in place things were gonna get better but it seems it gotten far worse...I dont see how all this is helping seems to me they are creating more crime with inflated price gouging and people running to herion.....

Is there a forum or websute to register complaints about getting my once a month legit script?

Marms - If pharmacists will not fill for your doctor, take a good long look at him. This was advice from a pharmacist that I know. Most will not tell you they do not trust your doctor [it's slander] and since so much is put on the pharmacist's head ie more responsibility/liability than ever before if they fill a script for someone who turns out to be a junkie or even a legit patient who has a doctor with a reputation [when the doc either closes or gets closed down those that filled those scripts will come under scrutiny]. If you have been seeing the same pharmacy for a while or have a decent working relationship with them, ask them for doctors they would recommend. They'll give you several names. Also, Donna S K post is spot on when trying to get scripts filled. While many may not wish to share their health information with their pharmacy - it does help them understand you, to work with you. Other advice from pharmacists - have your doctor contact them - if you run into problems or have to go out of your area some to get script filled. Open communication between DR, Patient and Pharmacist works. They are your team - the best ones will work closely with you.

Sounds a lot like the lady at Walgreens in Altamonte Springs - she's the ONLY one there that gives me a problem, even though I've been going there for 2+ yrs now, with the same Rx from the same doctor...I've filed so many complaints against her and when I go and see her behind the counter, I turn around and walk across the street to their competitor...they should not be allowed to treat patients that way, and Mgmt is no better - they stick up for them as if their useless and hopeless, "the Pharmacist has the right to refuse to fil...blahblahblah"!

So TIRED do not know what to do any more I am sitting here in agoney while others out ther are probably high out of the minds on medication that myself and other legit chronic pain patients really need I have had been on pain meds for 7 years I began taking 5mg percocet and my tolerance grew till eventually almost 4 years ago I startred seeing a pain management Dr. that have a great back round with 20+ years in the Pain industry I get blood work done to check that my liver and kidneys and all my organs are capable of taking the meds I have had over 5 MRI's from different imaging centers I see a phych.once a month and follow every rule to tee I have 3 herniated disk in my neck and a broken coixes(tail bone) that is compressed into my thecal sac not to mention all the buldging disk thru out my back and to make it worse my shoulder has major nerve damage this was all on set by terrible car accident that I thank god to still be alive. All thanks to a drunk driver(just happen to be a retired police officer) that was out of control and ate a red light hit a vehicle became air bound and landed on top of my moms car since then my life has been hell I was getting my meds from a Walgeens since then and also have been diagnosed with COPD that is also extremly painful and know the pharmacy refuses to fill my pain meds telling me the DEA has stopped them from filling narcotics no other walgreens will take my script even after changing meds to see if that would help from oxycodone to hydromorphone its not about the med its about the need for relief I am to a point of ultimate fustration I am becoming more deppresed daily and feel like I have no quality of life I hasve a 15year old son that sees me cry everyday and he is also sufferring watching me in this state I have put in coomplaints to Walgreens Corp. and had a district manager call me and tell me that theDr, office I go to had a Dr. that had his licence taken but he is no longer even part of the office she went on to say that there where patients that where arrested that where treated there I dont get it ! WHAT does that have to do with me. I need help I need to find a way to reach someone that can help me be it legally however if anyone can suggest what action I should take I feel so violated I can not go to other pharmacys due to insurance issues and mom and pop pharmacys around here wont accept insurance and are charging ridiculos amounts of money for pain meds I decided to post this and see if any one knows what I should do??? Any suggestions would be appreciated...Thanks

Just an FYI - the Walgreens on 436 finally got them in today...BUT, as of June 1st they have a new restriction - they now have a 15mile radius, or was it 5mile, where they will no longer fill Rxs if your ID address is not within that radius...I've been going to this pharmacy for 2 1/2 years and today I was refused...this is the ONLY pharmacy I've found that even has it and the Pharmacist, who has assisted me many times in the past, was not budging on this new "rule"...so they are making it more and more difficult to get oxycodone scripts filled...and a customer ahead of me was given a hard time because he didn't have a long-acting, or extended release, medicine to go along with the short-acting...so this is another new restriction as of the 1st of June....unbelievable!

Hey Dee

Sorry for the delayed response...and yes, it is the store on 434 at Edgemon. I've gone there since my first surgery back in 1995, now over the last couple months they have evolving rules each couple weeks that are impacting everyone.

One of the pharmacists (Jason) actually thinks he's a doctor as he tells patients their Dr's are wrong in how/what they are being prescribed. The hypocrisy of them having filled both stronger and larger amounts of PKs over the past 15 years is astounding when you consider the cuts and outright refusal-to-fills over the last month.

Instead of being advocates for those long-time customers whom they've never had problems with...and who they know are legitimate, they've not only given-in to some of these draconian demands, they've willingly expanded on them, adding even more pain and suffering to these people's lives.

I can't even tell if these policy changes are demands from Walgreen's HQ or decisions made locally since not every store adheres to the same rules. It's time for the silent and suffering majority to get back the humanity that is being taken from them by greedy predators on all sides of this problem.

I am surprised that anyone is having difficulty getting these narcotics. I live in georgia and I know a couple that make a living and feed their own habit. All I know right now is that the doctor also sells the pills also. If anyone reading this thinks they know the place please email me.

I posted a list at #207 that may help.. People that have filed complaints have been blackballed.. nothing comes of the complaint anyway so why even bother?
BUT........ :)
DONNA RATLIFF is on Facebook with a Pain Group that is Private to join.. they are doing a lot of good things to help the Govt. know what is going on with trying to get scripts filled etc. she is the profile with Blonde hair,,

Please, Please message her and she will be more than happy to talk with you and join the group.. the more people we have the better,, she has had journalists contact her and mentioned her and the group in articles and there is more interest in helping all of us.....
THIS IS A PRIVATE GROUP so no worries of anyone you do not want to know will find out what you post..

I also recently heard that Walgreens is considering NOT getting oxys any longer like CVS has.. true ? I dunno could be a rumor like others to put fear out there..
still hearing that they are having a hard time getting shipments from the distributor

Most Pharmacies now will not take a script from a Dr. that does not accept insurance at all and only takes cash from their patients.. so that could be a reason why people are getting turned away at RX's.. apparently there is a 'local' list of Dr's that do not take insurance at their clinics which is a 'red flag' as a possible pill mill sometimes hidden as a weight loss clinic etc....

this surely has to end sometime soon, doing the pharmacy crawl every month causes anxiety/stress levels to go up and in turn the pain goes up and endless cycle continues
