My mother was given a fentanyl patch (25mg/hr) after receiving radiation treatment for a cancerous tumour in her spine. When I discovered what a strong drug it was and that she was experiencing vertigo, I removed it immediately. I took this decision myself as I was unable to reach her doctor. She had worn the patch for just 36 hours. She had a peaceful night but has been shivering this morning. Could 36 hours of wearing a fentanyl patch be enough to give withdrawal symptoms? Is it okay for the withdrawal symptoms to die out on their own? I am still unable to reach her doctor. That is why I am posting these questions. I would be grateful for any advice. ## It is a very potent medication, over 80 times stronger than Morphine. However, I think taking it upon yourself to remove it may not h...

I was on oxycodone for 5 yrs, Doctor decides his practice doesn't want to go the oxy 30 route anymore... Gives me 50mcg fentanyl patch 1 every 72 hrs. To be honest I didn't feel anything really, but I didn't feel sick or like s***.. Go to next appointment, and told him the same, didn't feel anything and my chronic back and neck pain is off the charts. He upped the patch to 75mcg.. still don't really feel anything except my pain problems.. tried cutting the 1st 75mcg patch and chewing a small size piece after wearing 1st patch for only 48hrs hoping it would help my pain problems along with a new 75mcg patch!!! Still the same, hurting but not feeling like crap at least... I've been reading on here about breakthrough pain help????? Any ideas?? Thanks ## My opinion N...

I previously was dependent on opiate pain meds, then got put on suboxone and have now become dependent on that. I wanted to be completely off everything so I stopped taking the suboxone and have used a fentanyl patch for a week so I didn’t have horrible withdrawals. My question is, after the patch wears off would I still have withdrawal symptoms? Is the patch simply delaying the withdrawals? My thinking was I could use the patch for a week to completely get through the worst of the withdrawals and then I would be off everything. ## Please tell me you are joking?? That is like an alcoholic saying they are using tequila to get rid of the shakes from beer. You really need professional help to detox safely. I had to ask my doctor to help me get through the withdrawals and it took abou...

I am currently on a Mylan Fentanyl patch 50mcg/hr. I was on 75mcg patch which worked well with my pain but the patches dont last 48 hours. After about 30-36 hours I start having major withdrawel symptoms and pain. I had these withdrawels with both doses of the fentanyl patches. My dr dropped my down to 50mcg to see if it would help but it does'nt. I have some Dilaudid for breakthrough pain but it does'nt work at all for pain or withdrawel syptoms. The dilaudid is basically useless to me. Has anyone had a Mylan Fentanyl patch thats doing this?? I saw my dr today and he's considering taking me off the patches and back to the pills again. This really sucks. The patches have worked well for about 10 months now. ## Very sorry for what you are going through. It is possible that yo...

My pain specialist switched me from 100mcg of fentanyl to 40mg 2 times a day of opana ER. Was this the right conversion? I went through withdrawal for 3 weeks and I'm still in a lot of pain. ## Fentanyl is currently the stronger opiate available, so no, it is not equivalent and it is normal to experience withdrawals and rebound pain for awhile, according to FDA reports. Has there been any change, yet? You might need a dosage adjustment. The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. ## I was just switched over from opana 40 mg twice a day to a 50 mcg fentanyl patch. Can you still get withdrawals from the opana?

my husband is in late stage lung cancer with metastases to several bones. that pain is getting harder to control. are there IV pain medications that can be administered at home by an RN? we have home health and do not wish to change to Hospice. thank you for your help ## Hello, Jerri! How is your husband doing? I'm so sorry that he's so ill. And yes, there are IV medications that a home RN could administer, there are also skin patches available that contain a very potent narcotic called Fentanyl, so they might help him more, too. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Has his doctor made any suggestions? ## I am very sorry to hear about your husband I...

Hi.. It is my understanding that some opiates like H cause some changes in your brain over the long term and I was wondering if this was the case with fentanyl? It is a regularly prescribed medicine so I was hoping no. Anyone? ## Hello, Browncow! How are you? That is one of the huge differences that explains why some drugs are legal and some aren't. The benefits have to outweigh the possible risks and they actually have to have a therapeutic medical use. And no, I've not found anything about Fentanyl causing brain damage. As listed by the FDA, the most common reported issues with long-term use are addiction, tolerance and overdose. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mout...

I'm new on 100 Fentanyl patches for the second day - feel OK, I've been on opioids for pain management for few years, read a lot of scary posts on misuse and deaths... I am so worried at this point, that taking a shower scares me.. Can anyone suggest any "coverage" for the patch area, while in a shower??? I don't think I can just "take a shower as is", it will come off, I'm sure... I like the patch, it does work (I intend to use it EXACTLY as prescribed), but I am, as mentioned before, simply paranoid that I will get the patch wet, damaged, etc... Also, I read a "hot showers are a BIG NOs" - anyone tell me more about it??? Please friends, I need a shower badly, it's not fair to others and members of my family, the girl needs her hair done! :) ...

I WAS PRESCRIBED THE 50 MCG/HR FENTANYL PATCH FOR CHRONIC BACK PAIN & DEGENERATIVE DISC DISEASE. I WAS GIVEN THE PRESCRIPTION SEVERAL WEEKS AGO. I JUST GOT IT FILLED 2 DAYS AGO BECAUSE I'M AFRIAD TO USE IT. I HAVE READ ALL THE PATIENT INFO, RESEARCHED IT ON THE NET & TALKED TO SEVERAL PHARMACISTS AS WELL AS MY PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN. ALL OF THE PHYSICIANS & PHARMACISTS TELL ME THAT THE PATCH WILL HELP ME WITH THE DAILY PAIN. THEY SAY THAT THE PATCH SHOULD NOT CAUSE ME ANY HARM BUT THE ONE TING THAT'S STOPPING ME FROM USING IT IS THE RESPIRATORY SIDE EFFECTS & POSSIBLE OVERDOSE. I'M SEEKING SOME ADVISE FROM PEOPLE THAT HAVE USED THIS DRUG BEFORE WHETHER IT WAS A GOOD OR BAD OUTCOME. I AM OPOID TOLERANT BECAUSE I'VE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS PAIN FOR THE LAST ...

i am on 100 mcg fentanyl patch every 48 and given the certain amount of waste each month with one or more galling off and whatnot i keep a couple suboxone from an old script on hand. how long should i wait to take a half an eight mg sub.??? thank you in advance ## To prevent them falling off, you might want to try using some waterproof medical tape to help keep them on, they also sell a clear sticky patch that can be used over them and it is fine to do so, unless your doctor has given you specific instructions not to. Learn more Fentanyl details here. Learn more Suboxone details here. As to the Suboxone, along with the narcotic Buprenorphine, it also contains Naloxone, which is used to help prevent the abuse of other opiates, while someone is under treatment with it, thus you have to be...

Hi I'm on 100 I do know when they run but they don't desalt seem to do much what is better then this for osteo pain? Thanks ## Fentanyl is the strongest narcotic opiate available on the market, it is over 80 times stronger than Morphine. Learn more Fentanyl details here. How often do you change the patches? What other medications have you tried? ## I hope by now you've found a medication or mixture of meds that are helpful. As there are too many people handing out bad information & using these sorts of places to find drugs, it's not proper to ask for names of "better" medications. There are medications stronger than fentanyl & for osteo pain; a mix of NSAIDs & narcotics, as well as physical therapy & exercise, have been proven to be most beneficia...

Hi I'm on 100 I do know when they run but they don't desalt seem to do much what is better then this for osteo pain? Thanks ## The 100mcg Fentanyl patches are actually the strongest narcotic analgesic on the market, it's over 80 times stronger than Morphine. Learn more Fentanyl details here. What other medications have you tried? How long do you wear each patch? ## Fentanyl should NEVER be used for osteo pain. It works on nerve pain but I've never know it to work on knee replacement, etc. 100 mcg/hr is the MAXIMUM dose. Any more than that can be FATAL. I'm not a physician, but I'd recommend Naproxin 500 mg twice a day. It is the active ingredient in Alieve BUT it is the prescription strength and is cheaper than any other drug I've found that works. Is there any fentanyl left in a 50mg patch after 3 days? Because the paperwork days they could kill animals and small children ## Hello, Sherri! How are you? Yes, while most of the medication is absorbed and used, there are always traces of it still in the patch and, since this is a very potent narcotic, it could be enough to harm animals and small children, as reported by the manufacturer. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## After using a fentanyl patch 50 mcg/h for 3 days how much medication is left in the patch? How long does fentanyl stay in your system? ## It's detectable for approximately 2 days in a standard urine test and about the same amount of time for blood testing. Learn more Fentanyl details here. The precise time frame will vary from person to person, depending on your metabolism, overall health, activity levels, fluid intake and etc. Are there any other questions or comments? ## Can you get the patch for severe constant back pain & migraines? ## A lot depends on how you do the Fentanyl also. Are you abusing it? Do you attach it to a fatty part of your skin, such as your buttocks? or do you attach it to your arm where there isn't much fat? These have a lot to do with how long the drugs stays a part of you... ## Fully rely on God!!!! All pm docs will fail you because they...

I have an urostomy then I had a kidney removed and the urine was clear. Now I am on a Fentanyl 25 mg patch and oxy ir 5 mg taken every 6 hours. Now the urine has turned dark is this caused by the medication? ## Have you contacted your doctor? This is one of the things that's warned about in the medication information, if you notice darkening urine, while on Fentanyl, you should contact your doctor immediately. ## They gave me versead and fentanyl for my cataract surgery twice in one week , now I noticed my urine is very yellow , is this ok? ## They gave me versead and fentanyl for my cataract surgery twice in one week ,in my IV, now I noticed my urine is very yellow ,

My doctor told me last Thursday a UA came back with low values of meds in my system. I only ever used the meds as prescribed. He said he will no longer fill my 75 mcg/h patch and hydrocodone after 8 years. 2 car accidents 3 weeks apart in 2003. I have 2 inoperable thoratic disc, spinal stenosis and a pinched nerve in my lower back. Also had 2 cervical fusion surgeries. I honestly feel like my withdrawals are going to kill me and pain is starting to really flair? What can I do? He gave me a 20 day supply of Clonidine and sent me on my way. No advice, no referral. I actually had to chase him down to ask questions. Warning on the Clonidine says not for patients with heart attacks and I've had a major blockage and almost died also in 2003 (really bad year) and I as only 43. Is this unet...

I've been on oxycodone for almost 2 years, following a bad automobile accident. I became dependent and was taking upwards of 75-85mg per day. I'm finally on a step-down regimen, starting with 60mg per day for a week, then 50mg a day/ per week, 40mg per day/week and so on, until I finish 10mg per day for a week. I foolishly took more than I was supposed to this week (had a death in the family that put me over the edge). I can't fill my next Rx until the end of this week and was petrified of withdrawal, so I slapped on a 25mcg fentanyl patch. It's been 25 hours and I developed a terrible headache. Last dose of oxycodone was yesterday afternoon, 5/325. Put patch on at 10pm. Just took patch off at 11:30pm tonight and was wondering - if I start taking my oxycodone again tomor...

Please Help at Ground Zero..I live near Baton Rouge Louisiana. I am in need of Pain Management that will allow me to private pay. I receive Medicaid/united health. This pain is going to be the death of me. I have a daughter who's 12 that is now dealing with Mommy being in Pain. Its go time! Thanks so much. ## Louisiana Medicaid will not pay for a pain management Dr. ## Try the Feldman Institute in Baton Rouge. You have to have injections and procedures as well if you want medications, but he also has his own MRI machine on the property. He's a brilliant doctor, and he accepts Medicaid and Medicare. ## Tiffanie, having Medicaid when you also have Medicare is not the same as having Medicaid only. ## I am looking for a pain management doctor who takes cash...I have been in pain 25 ...
