I am on the 100 mcg fentanyl patch and 4 mgs hydromorphone for breakthrough pain, does anyone know about the fentanyl lozenges for breakthrough pain? I’d like to request my doctor take me off hydromorphine and change to the lozenges for my breakthrough pain, I’m wondering if someone is doing this already? Thank you ## In many cases, Fentanyl isn't doubled up due to the very real risk of overdosing the patient. It is a very potent narcotic, so a doctor has to be very cautious regarding how much they prescribe, and how frequently it is to be taken. The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. An overdose, however, may be fatal. Why do you want to swi...

I came to my doctor and asked if we could try to decrease my fentanyl use (was 100mcg) and use medical marijuana in its place. Im down to 12mcg of fentanyl, and im coping, but the pain is worse. Im really scared when I'm supposed to stop the fentanyl altogether. I've been through the sickness of withdrawl before. An ER doctor didn't check my meds before he ordered Nubain. The nursing immediately counteracts against the fentanyl and i got really sick. I never want to feel that way again. Has anyone here done this successfully? ## I could not wait to get off the Fentanyl patches. They made me feel innebriated 24/7 and so my doctor decided due to sensitive issues we will discontinue it. Taper and discontinuation was a mutually agreed to action, it was consensual. I got pass and...

I have been on suboxone for over 2 years now. I have attempted several times to stop using them but I haven't been successful. I take 1-2mg a day. I have tried weening more than that but suffered terrible withdrawals. I would like to know if anyone has been successful at this or have found another way to stop using suboxone. I thought this was a miracle drug for opioid dependency but its worse than opioid addiction. ## From what I can tell based on your description, I would honestly consider asking a pain clinic for assistance in tapering, since it seems to effect you so significantly. Just keep in mind that you definitely aren't alone on this matter. There are quite a few threads posted here with individuals trying to withdrawal from this dangerous drug. In the meantime you may...

I found a pill that is blue, triangular shaped with rounded edges, it has no imprint on either side. The packaging had silver stars embedded in blue circles. Please help! ## I tried searching for these, using the packaging, but I can't find anything and without any markings, it is going to be very difficult to narrow down what is in these tablets. The packaging, however, leads me to suspect that it is some type of over the counter product. Do you know what country they came from? ## Have you had any luck identifing these pills. It matches some that I have found and I am worried. ## I suspect that they are something illicit such as ecstasy or fentanyl.

what is the difference between liquid and jelly types ## I'am on 75 mcg of fentanyl patch jelly form. I found when i used the other fentanyl patches with the glue all over them i would break out from the glue. So what is the difference between the patches and do they work as well. I was told to use a steroid nasal spray under the patch before applying it, but everyone i've asked has never heard of using the spray before applying patch. So i've decided to just stay with the jelly form. Has anyone else had this problem and do the patches work the same jelly patches versus the ones with glue all over them. I'm still not getting much relief anyway, i've had chronic pain for some time and i'm only 52 but due to all my health problems i really don't have a life any...

Hello- I have had stage 4 breast cancer and a Bone Marrow Transplant, double Mastectomies, total Hysterectomy, 7 months of Chemo, 7 weeks of daily radiation, a 360 Spinal Fusion w hardware, getting another Spinal Fusion soon, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Nerve and Bone Pain...many other surgeries and autoimmune disorders. I have been using my Fentanly Compound Cream in a very low dose (micrograms) for over 13 years. I have now been told by my Medicare part D plan that the Fentanyl Citrate Bulk Powder lacks an Food and Drug (FDA) approved new drug application (NDA) Abbreviated New Drug Application and therefore is not eligible as a Part D benefit and is not covered under a Part D Prescription Drug Plan. The first denial was that Part D did not cover compound medications...then the lack...

How do I stop uncontrollable movements after being switched off Fentanyl patch 50mcg / hr? The Dr said to wait a couple of hours before taking Oxycontin 30 mg. I am 72 and have been on a Fentanyl patch 50 mcg/hr for 9 months for severe back pain. The Dr thought it was no longer working and put me on Oxycontin 30 mg every 12 hours. I started to get very restless and not able to control movements. Not sleeping well, sneezing, bowel movements. No concentration, heavy headed. Please I need help. I can not stand this. ## Hi Barbara! You should let your doctor know the way you're feeling. You could be going through withdrawals. ## @Barbara, You mentioned in your post that the doctor "thought" it was no longer working... Are you in direct communication with him letting him know whe...

Hi all, Just wondering if anyone here takes Fentora for noncancer related pain? Last time I took it was 2013 when my doctor was able to write off label prescriptions for it but then my insurance stopped covering it. Also, with the many fentanyl related deaths lately, it's even harder to get the medication. Thing is, I have new prescription drug insurance and Fentora is in the formulary. I'm waiting to hear back from my Dr. about getting a prescription for it but thought I'd also post here to see if others have Fentora prescribed to them? I was taking Fentora to treat breakthrough neuropathic pain. FYI, I have an intrathecal pump which has baclofen and hydromorphone. The baclofen helps the spasms tremendously but the hydromorphone isn't doing much for the pain, I still ge...

HELP; i suffered severe spinal injuries nov 2004; first i was prescribed T3's for pain, then tramadol, oxycocet, then oxycontin, anf finally was placed on fentanyl; Due to problems with the patch I chose to start a drug reduction strategy; I went from 50 mg patch's every 48 hrs to every 3 days for a month, then to a 25mg patch every 3 days for a month; then stopped cold turkey, i have some 10 mg ihc oxycontin i take when the pain is unbearable but am having terrible insomnia and just feel like hell warmed over, chills, nausea, feeling yukky. so far i have been able to limit the 10 mgs to 3 a week, but when i take a 10 mg oxy, i feel alot better...what can i do to get off all meds? ## Well, the first thing you have to understand is that Fentanyl is a very potent narcotic, it is ac...

Unless you are willing to call each pharmacy, you cannot tell which pharmacies carry which brands of fentanyl patches at which prices. Could we have a page or a bulletin board, or database that allows people to post what they know and find out what others know? The example I use is Mylan fentanyl patch 25mg. Tom Thumb just told its pharmacies that they cannot order Mylan patches. I am sure other such problems do and will exist for other medications as the financial and political battles progress. ## Most pharmacies will not discuss fentanyl patches unless you are standing in front of them with a new script which they believe is valid. ## Trying to find a pharmacy that carries the Mayne Par fentanyl patches. Walgreens used to but says that they cannot get anymore. I called company and th...

My doctor and insurance are now forcing me to wear the patch for 72 hrs instead of my usual 48 hr change. I am having a very rough time after about the 30 hour mark once the patch goes into half live. What is the closest generic patch that matches the Duragesic brand? I am finding that all generics are not close to the brand. ## I used to be on fentanyl patches for years and I had to change them every 48 hours or I went into withdrawals. I live in the tropics and apart from rapid absorption after 2 days a layer of fat and salt film accumulates between the adhesive and the skin reducing delivery. ## I was on the fentanyl patch for years for my chronic pancreatitis. The brand/generic thing is complicated when it comes to painting meds especially the patch versions. Their delivery systems ...

Does anyone know where I can get the Sandoz brand of fentanyl patches in the Monroeville Pittsburgh PA area? Currently taking 75mcg ## Hi Joseph, Unfortunately there is no real way of knowing which pharmacies have what brand in stock at any given moment. Especially since products come and go off the shelf all-day and most pharmacies only order what they can get at the cheapest price from manufacturers as it is. At least that's what I've been told anyways. But it certainly does have an effect on what brand you're getting. I would just try to go around to few local pharmacies in your immediate area to see what they're able to do for you. Sometimes with the mom and pop pharmacies you can get pretty lucky with who you speak with and they'll be more than happy to special ...

I have been having problems since they took me off of the duragesics made by jennsen, I am looking for a similar brand that helps my pain and does not fall off, I liked the sandoz but there is some back up on those i do not like the matrix because I get no relief, gell patches fall off ## Why did they take you off of it? Do you mean your pharmacy just switched which one they're providing? If that's the case, you can ask if they can order that one back in for you. You just may have to pay any price difference between it and their current one, because your insurance usually won't. As to the ones that fall off, there are also solutions available for that, there are some medical tapes and overlay patches that you can get to prevent them doing that. ## @vERWON PLEASE if you could...

My husband, age 77, developed severe acute pancreatitis and has been in the hospital for the past 8 months. He has been on Fentanyl patches (the lowest dose) plus some extra fentanyl injections anytime the nurses thought he might be feeling pain. His pancreatitis healed in 3 months, but by then he developed a huge back bed sore. From the beginning, even when they were giving him morphine at the beginning, before the fentanyl patches, he developed breathing and sleeping problems, with intermittent rapid panicky breathing spells. With the patch, he has had also hallucinations and was forever either totally sleepless or totally drowsy. Because of the breathing problems, he has now a tracheatomy. His immune system was also compromised and he had several severe infections, i.e. lung and bloo...

I'm being weaned off of 25mcg of fentanyl patches. The doctor gave me five 12.5 patches to wean me off of the 25mcg patch and told me when I felt it was the right time to take it off, to go ahead and do so. Now I'm still having withdrawal's. Granted not as bad of one I had when I ran out of the 25mcg. I'm restless and take .5mg of klonopin twice a day and vistril 25mg for break threw panic disorder I have and a slight heaviness and pain in my chest along with headache. I nausea. I've now turned to cannabis to cope with anxiety and nausea. I figure they give to cancer patients to help. Its herbal and non addictive except psychologically. The doctor never said or asked about an alternative for withdrawal. I've read a lot on here and has helped tremendously! I thank...

if fentanyl is 80x stronger than morphine, how much morphine will I have to take if I'm on 25mg fentanyl. sounds scary ## Hello, Kim! How are you? You're on 25mcgs of Fentanyl? You'd need only about 7.5mgs of Morphine. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Yes, Fentanyl is 80% stronger. ## None. If you are taking Fentanyl you should have no need to take morphine. ## I have been researching most of the day and absolutely cannot find an answer to my question. I have metastatic breast cancer. Hi. I have a question about fentanyl. I'm on 25+12mg every 72hr but still in a lot off pain. Now I heard from a friend that oxycodone 80mg is stronger. I'm in the pain clinic and my dr said my insurance (bmc) doesn't cover the oxycodone. Can anyone tell me if I can pay for the meds with cash? ## Hello, Caroux! How are you? No, Fentanyl is the strongest narcotic available, it is even stronger than Oxycodone. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. However, you may need a medication for breakthrough pain, in addition to the patches. Most doctors will prescribe a low dose Oxycodone or something similar. Have you let your doctor know that your current ...

I take the mallinckordt 100mch fentanyl patch and I was wondering if there is enough fentanyl left over after I have worn the patch for 3 days to still use it? ## Hi clay, According to the prescribing information, Fentanyl patches are only intended to last 72 hours (3 days) before they should be replaced. Nih.gov also recommends changing it at about the "same time of day", every time you do change it. Given the above information, it's probably safe to assume that there's very little, if any left after 72 hours of use. And if there is any left, I would doubt that the remaining dosage would be enough to provide sufficient relief. That part is just an opinion though, as I personally have not taken Fentanyl in order to know for certain, nor do I know what your level of toler...

Good day to all. This post is for those who may be faced with chronic pain or who may have loved ones undergoing difficult challenges in a similar capacity. I'm writing this message because I just stumbled upon an article by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), as they recently announced a meeting they held on May 31st through June 1st, 2018 discussing chronic pain and the opioid crisis. The event was intended to highlight the need for better pain management by taking advantage of the latest research in the field. In hindsight, many of us have come to terms that it's predominantly an illicit drug and fentanyl crisis (not solely prescribed opioids as is often depicted), but for the sake of allowing mainstream news to shed light on better approaches to pain management, I think...
