I am a chronic pain patient and I have slowly got off hydrocodone 10mg-325 acetaminophen and acetaminophen#4 due to stomach issues. I also take other meds cyclobenzaprine diazepam, nortriptyline . I was prescribed the 25mg patch. after reading info with meds it states DO NOT TAKE IF NOT ALREADY USING OPIOID PAIN MED. I am scared to death to try this med. Because I have not used pain meds continually in the last 6 months. Is this safe to start? ## Fentanyl is a very strong opiate narcotic, it is over 80 times stronger than Morphine. Learn more Fentanyl details here. The main issue I see with it, apart from it being so strong, is that it really leaves you nowhere else to go in the future. Generally, it should be the last resort medication, after other options have been exhausted, since th...

My husband has used fentanyl patches for years for chronic pain. He's been on the lowest dosage for at least 2 years and suddenly he's having terrible withdrawals for no reason. He has been on higher dosages before and the lowest dosage is good enough for his pain. These withdrawals are a nightmare for him and me. He had withdrawals then 2 days later withdrawals again even though both times he had a fresh patch on. Does anyone know why this would happen? Does a body just decide to reject it after a length of time? The patches are fresh, he used some from this box already, so it's not the batch of patches. ## Hi I used the patch n went down did not have withdrawals he shouldn't be Id quite taking them and get to the Pharmacy good Luck ## Hi AGrandma! I was on fentanyl patches for a little over 2 years. I started seeing a new pain DR in January and he took me off of the patches but now they are telling me that a small amount of fentanyl showed up in my February and March swab test. How can this be when I haven't used it since January?

I have been on it for about 2 months. I am stopping cold turkey. What is going to happen to me? Fentantnl 25MG patch. ## Hello, Jenn! How are you? Fentanyl is a very potent narcotic, over 80 times stronger than Morphine, so you stopping abruptly will likely cause some severe withdrawal effects, such as nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, nervousness and insomnia. It would be much safer and easier to do a gradual taper, which may involve other medications. Have you consulted your doctor for assistance? ## Just like most prescription drugs fentanyl is is under the controlled substance act witch means it is addictive, after 2 months of continues use if you quite cold turkey it could force you into withdrawl. If your currently on another prescription pain med that may reduce the withdrawl symptoms ...

If you chew fentanyl patch how long does it stay in your system ## Can chewing on half of a 25 mg fentanyl overdose you? I have a friend that's been struggling with a drug problem, today he was chewing on exactly half of 25 mg patch and said he was starting to feel it an extreme amount. About 20 minutes later he said he was starting to feel scared because of the effects. I'm worried about my friend, I've known him a very long time and have been trying to get him away from his addiction.

Call your doctor now ## Take it from me if you double up on the fentyln patch without letting them take you up they will say you did it by yourself and let you go.I went to my pain ct. today and where I have been on the run from late last month I was in so much pain I had to take a few extra perocet which was a generic with ipo with a slash in the middle of it and it was not controlling my pain.I was doing back to back drs. appts plus doing mammagram where I have cancer in my lung breast and have lung cancer plus two failed back surgeries and beca...

I've been using 100mcg patch Fentanyl every 48 hours for months now. Last week my neurologist had to prescribe me a Medrol-Dos Pak (steroids) because the pain in my knee became unbearable, even with pain medication. It was too early to get another shot. So, I'm now on DAY 3 of the DOSE PAK, and I swear these patches start wearing off after only 1 day! Out of the blue I started feeling horrible withdrawal symptoms yesterday, even though I wasn't due to change the patch until today. I had no choice but to replace the patch early. I figured maybe it was a defective patch. But now TODAY I am experiencing the same problem. If these are not defective patches, then the only factor possible is the steroid medication having an effect on the medication/or my body's tolerance level...

On june 29, 2009 my doctor upped my Fentanyl from 50mcgs to 100mcgs. I applied one patch and had a reaction simaliar to an overdose. I immediately put back on a 50mcg patch and have been reducing the dose ever since. I am now down to 6.5mcgs or there about, I have been cutting Mylan brand patches in half, the quarters etc., I have been at this dose since the 10th of July. I really don't want to stick another one of these things on me, so does everyone think I've got it down low enough to come off this stuff? Thanks for your help. I do have ativan and percoset if needed. ## After doing exactly as I described in my message on the 14th. I am happy to report I am totally off the fentanyl patch totally since the 14th Stepping down in doseage as discribed worked like a charm. I must s...

Is there a danger to kidneys if I have the patch? I only have one kidney....lost because of a kidney stone. ## Hello, Linda! How are you? The kidneys are partially responsible for removing Fentanyl from the body, so it may actually affect you more than it would people with 2 kidneys and linger in your body longer than usual. But generally, when it comes to damage from medications, it is the liver that is of the most concern, especially with Acetaminophen. Has your doctor said it is safe for you to use these medications? The FDA classifies Fentanyl as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Well the par is gell filled and sandoz is matrix and about to expire in may so now i am feeling withdrawl while wearing a fresh fentanyl patch does this mean got some duds I tried one of each and I am getting absolutely nothing :-( ## Hello, Starshadow! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain. What other pain medications have you taken? It sounds like this might be too low of a dose to help you. There are higher doses available. I am always tired. Looking for energy. Friend gave me a fentanyl 75mcg patch. Will that give me energy? ## Hello, Mozzy! How are you? No, the FDA classifies Fentanyl as a narcotic analgesic and it can cause dizziness, drowsiness and fatigue as side effects, along with nausea, dry mouth and constipation. This is also very potent and should not be used if it wasn't prescribed for you. If you are not opiate tolerant, you could easily overdose. Is there anything else I can help with?

ON A STICK LOLLI POP FASION AQTIC AT BOTTOM OF STIC 400MCG WHAT DOES IT DO HOW DOES IT EFFECT MY BODY ## Fentanyl, the active ingredient in Actiq is a very potent narcotic analgesic. The lollipop form is used to force a slow release of the medication in order to get better control of pain. Learn more Actiq details here. Since it is an opiate narcotic, it may be habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything I can help with? Are there any comments or questions? ## I was taking Oxycontin until they switched it to OxyNeo. Not too sure how Health Canada cleared BHT as a safe ingredient; a chemical used in carpet cleaning. I have been on the Duragesic Transdermal Patch for years. I've never used the generic form, so I can't compare the two. I've been on Narcotics for many years, due to a chronic back, hip, and knee condition. The Duragesic Patch has been more effective than anything else. I've had it all...Percocet, Hydrocodone, Oxycotin, methadone...Unlike a pill, the medication doesn't wear off in 3 to 4 hours. Unlike pills, I don't suffer from nausea. I think the benefts of the patch outweigh any negative results from other narcotics. I only have one complaint about the Duragesic Patch...It won't stay stuck on me. It always falls off. However, the maker of patch, does offer overlay dressings, free of charge. The overlay dressing is a clear, thin sheet, that is applied over t...

I was prescribed 25mcg fentanyl patches, and i was wondering if there was any way of taking them intravenously for better pain relief? ## It is not safe to try and inject any medication that has not been specially formulated to be used in such a manner. These patches contains special substances that help control the time release of the medication and these are not intended to be taken internally and broken down by the human body. Trying to inject them could result in blockages, that could cause embolism, or stroke. That is, of course, on top of the risk of overdose, which is a very great possibility, since Fentanyl is over 80 time stronger than Morphine. Are there any comments or questions? ## thanx!!!!! :) ## My friend abused them and died Instantly. The funeral was devastating... it w...

is there a topical pain medication for the knees that i can add to fentenyl patch ## Hello, Laura! How are you? Yes, there some available both via prescription and as over the counter products. However, you'll likely want to stay away from products such as Icy Hot, since they may raise your body temperature and cause problems with the patch. It would likely be best to check with your doctor to see what is safest for you to use. The FDA classifies Fentanyl as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Desperately seeking a new pain management dr or personal care provider in the Tempe/Phoenix/East Valley are that will be considerate enough to let me partake in the "mandatory" drug panels by means other than urinary. I am a spastic paraplegic that is incontinent, I use self catheterization which can produce severe discomfort under normal conditions, let alone from a chair or in an uncomfortable position or place. I have actually been hospitalized for a condition which can be brought on called autonomic dysreflexia (AD). I have been on fentanyl and oxycodone for the last 7 years due to a bullet in my spine. My normal blood pressure is 120/80. My blood pressure has been recorded at 160/122 without the dr taking notice that things were going wrong even after my complaints. 160/122...

These past weeks have been very difficult pain-wise. I fell on ice and injured major joint. I am prescribed Fentanyl 75 (matrix) patches for my DDD/DJD, one every 48 hours. I've cutting one up into quarters to get additional pain relief. I will often use 1/4 extra patch, in addition to the one full patch. Now I cannot tolerate anything less! My pain is bad, but now I'm going to be a little short before next refill. If I tell my Pain Management Doc about this on my appointment, will he kick me out, or will he help me? What I really need is a higher dose for my pain. ## Hello, DNvest! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain.
