Fentanyl-not Working?

Hello. I am on the Fentanyl 50mcg patch taken the standard way. Change every 72 hours. I have been on the patch for almost a week. I am on the patch for excruciating thigh and lower leg pain due to spinal problems.Tomorrow will be my third new patch. My questions are:
I have yet to notice anything that seems like pain relief. Nothing. Should I have noticed any kind of relief by now, or does it take longer than I've allowed it so far.

Yes, you should've noticed some pain relief within an hour or so of putting on the first one.

However, it is possible that it just might not work for you. Have you contacted your doctor about it?

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

I've been on fentanyl 100 mcg patches for about three years. My surgeons want to replace both of my shoulders, but with the patches they are manageable. I change the patches every two days instead of every three. It's possible that the amount might not be enough. The patch will reach full strength in at the most eight hours after applying it. Now temperature has a lot to do with effectiveness of the patch. But I don't know of anybody that fentanyl doesn't work on. Agree you should be feeling a marked amount of pain relief. I am also allowed morphine 30 mg six times a day for breakthrough pain if necessary. Hope this helps. Alex

Hello! Me too! The Fentanyl Patch is not working for me either! I have virtually no cushioning left in my cervical vertebrae, due to being one of the first (ever) ALL Leukemia survivors.. had chemo shot up my spine, also have spinal stenosis. I am slowly dying from late term effects of chemo..I asked my doctor for MS Contin, as it worked great for me 8 years ago when I nearly died in a fire- 3rd degree burns on 50% of my body, multiple skin graft surgeries..He would not listen..had me on oxycodone 10 mg 3 x daily but made me do sick.. depression, severe stomach pain, nausea, fatigue, anxiety.. worsened lower back pain.. lost a lot of weight, became very weakened. These are real side effects. Would not listen, gave me 5 mcg. Fentanyl, and MORE oxycodone!!??..the liquid inside the cheap patch is not even permeating! Just drying up.. supposed to last 72 hours.. I am do sick and in so much pain, I just..think of ..ending this. Oh, I have Spinal Stenosis too.. my husband wants to throw me out on street! I swear oxycodone made me more depressed..PTSD from childhood abuse, raped, set on fire..took 6 years in backward Oklahoma to even get an accurate diagnosis..but my MRI says it all. Thank you.. please help me.
