Family Practioner That Will Care For Me.
UpdatedWhy can't I find a family medical Dr. that will allow me a minimum of pain control without making me go to a pain management program?

The DEA is coming down hard on family doctors. You can't get decent pain management without a piano management due to the fact doctors receive emails on a daily basis of threatening them if they hand out more than 3 a day of ANY narcotic but most family doctors won't prescribe anything other than Percocets and those are tough to get unless your at a P.M. Center. I go to a pain management center because I've MS and herniated disks in neck, back and my feet are in terrible shape, I can hardly walk in the mornings and life without pain management wouldn't be worth living. I've had 5 surgeries on my feet and 2 bone marrow infusions, mind you, this is the short version of my story, however I live in a small town which they just put a doctor at the age of 68 in prison for life for prescribing too many pain meds a day, so getting a family doctor to treat is out of the question. They are fearful of going to prison and losing their licenses. I would be too if I were them. The doctors are no longer in control of how they treat their patients in regards to pain management. Unfortunately, society, the DEA, and your insurance company has complete control, nothing personal against you. As pain patients, we need to stand up for our own health and if that means going to a pain clinic, then that's what it takes. Good luck and go to a pain management center and a ligit one at that. They are there to make your life functional. I was on 6 lortab a day when my family doctor all of a sudden cut me down to 2 a day out of fear of going to prison, it was at that moment when I called my pain management center. To find a ligit Pain Center you can call your insurance company. They will tell you where they are and what one is closest to you. Good luck.
The person that responded is on the right track, but some of the details have been misunderstood…
New regulations have been put in place to try to curb over-prescribing and improper prescribing of addictive controlled substances. These regulations have severely restricted what general practitioners and surgeons can prescribe, why they can prescribe it, how much they can prescribe and how long they can prescribe it.
Thus, anyone that requires such medications on a long-term basis for chronic pain will have to see a specialist to ensure that they are receiving the proper medications and are being properly managed.
And it isn't that general practitioners are restricted to only prescribing 3 tablets of anything a day, the number can vary, but they are restricted to only prescribing the maximum recommended dose, which may be 2 a day of some medications or 4 a day of others.
The only exceptions to these regulations are for patients with a terminal illness that's known to be very painful, such as late stage cancer.
Are there any other questions or concerns?
