False Positive For Klonopin With Xanax Script.

I have prescription for alprazolam, neurontin, and zoloft. My ua came up positive for xanax and klonopin. Of course I have not taken any klonopin whatsoever. I was told that there was high amounts of klonopin and low amounts of xanax. They are retesting for me but is there anything that could have caused this to happen? I am extremely upset!

If they are using one of the less expensive, non-certified tests, then it may have been caused by the Alprazolam/Xanax itself.

It is a frequent occurrence on these less reliable tests that one related substance causes a false positive for another. There have been many instances where on synthetic opiate has caused a false positive for other synthetic opiates and it may also happen with Benzodiazepines.

There are also some over the counter medications that can cause it. Did you take anything else?

I was so upset I forgot to write about the other things I take. I take neurontin, zoloft and risperidone. I also took some childrens triaminic cold and cough thin strips. That is all. I don't know what to do if my retest comes back positive also. I have done nothing wrong and am extremely humiliated.

I am having the same problem, something I did notice I also was taking cold/cough meds. Maybe that could bethe missing link here.

Are your tests sent to a lab or is it a dip panel test. On your standard dip, depending on how many panels it is, benzodiazepines are categorized into one group. If it was sent to a lab they can determine that. Same thing happened to me several years back my psychiatrist would get a UA every other visit to make sure I was taking my xanax. He told me the next visit that xanax, clonopin, and valium was found. Well I had nothing to hide and asked how this could be. He says it actually happens through the lab bc they are testing for benzodiazepines and come back with lists of several.

He told me not to worry, I've been seeing him for 6 years and we have an honest doctor patient relationship. He trusted me due to the fact I don't drink smoke or use drugs,so this he actually said was not the first time for me where the lab had said this but he never asked about bc we have a great relationship and he knows this lab messes up and didn't want to insult me.
