False Positive For Benzodiazepines (Page 9)

Updated

I have been testing positive for benzos and i cant figure out why. I have been taking suboxone & Ondansetron & promethazine. Thats it. If i fail another drug test, then my doctor is gonna kick me out. If anybody knows of any common substances, prescription or over the counter medications please inform me. Thanks

I know how you feel, putting your trust in man can get you killed and I am not exaggerating. Sad truth..

I go to a methadone clinic and it's very common for the methadone itself to come up as a false positive for oxycodone AND for trazadone to come up as a false positive for benzos.According to one of the people who work at the clinic, there are quite a few non-benzo medications that will come up as a false positive for benzos so it's important that you let the clinic know about all of the medications that you are being prescribed whether it's a controlled substance or not. That way you won't get kicked out for something you didn't do.

Hi John,

I appreciate your time answering peoples questions. I was the one (might have been others) who mentioned casually that Naproxen has been known to cause false positives.

You aren't correct in regards to having the same sample retested. They do not save or offer that option. I talked with the lab about saving some for a retest if it came back positive because my tests, and I assume everyone else's tests were non confirmation tests with really aren't even allowed to be used for any legal or medication suspending actions.

The more careful urine test with confirmation is much more accurate and tests a second time if anything comes back positive. My doctor has been unwilling to allow the the urine with confirmation.

As for your "suspicions" It's a regular MD. I've never had any drug or addiction issues. I don't drink, smoke or even take medications for cold or flu. I don't even eat fast food, drink carbonated beverages, or eat food with HFCS or hydrogenated oils. I haven't taken any recreational drugs for decades and other than a medical emergency when I was given a single benzo in 2010, I haven't taken anything Benzo related or that should reasonable be expected to cause 2 positives out of 6 tests.

The 99.9% statement is also absolutely false and there are ZERO recognized publications that agree with a 99.9% accuracy rate for urine testing. This is the attitude that is costing me, and I'm guessing at least some of the people here. (some of you are taking drugs and quite frankly should be on a different site). I tested positive on two different occasions, neither time using a urine with confirmation and, as you say, I know for an absolute fact I didn't take anything yet he sits there and tells me he's never seen a false positive as though what he thinks is true has value when I have the facts and know he's so wrong with me he's probably ruined other peoples lives. All I wanted was the option to use the most accurate test positive before he stains my records with questions of drug abuse or adjusts my care based on bad tests.

I was in bed for 10 years and I'm now up and working a somewhat real job. I went from not being able to walk 300 feet and refusing to get further than that from a vehicle to walking for miles and even running. I wouldn't risk that for anything.

As for legal action, I tried to get the dr to give me a better test and it was denied so I talking with an attorney I know and he agreed to call the DR. The DR refused to talk to him and wasn't happy when I came in. I told him I wasn't looking to sue and that I had found out that DR's like urine tests over blood tests because they can detect the drug for a longer period of time so that I was fine with the urine test as long as it included the confirmation. (initially I wanted a blood test assuming it was more accurate) He didn't recalling telling the nurse no when I called and I had taken my test earlier that day so we just ignored the issue for that visit but who knows what test I'll get next time.

You state we always have the legal right to retest but you seem to think that people hire attorneys for something other than enforcing their legal rights. I asked repeatedly for immediate retests the first two times I tested positive because I didn't want to ruin my relationship with a DR I really needed to help me beyond giving me drugs. Those two tests have me working with a doctor that assumes I'm a lying drug addict and I wasn't given any option to contest those single panel results which resulted in a relationship that begrudgingly continues my medication with no effort to help or belief in anything I say. Sure there is a legal right to get tested again that can be enforced at some point but I've been put in a category of people that need to be protected from themselves and can't even be trusted to report honest symptoms because my initial tests were not confirmed and now have to wonder every month if I'm going to lose my job because my medication gets changed.

I know there is a tendency to make a lot of assumptions about doctors and medical care and I'm sure my situation is a significant outlier but one thing you can see in a lot of these posts is the impact of the fear of not knowing what the person who decides your quality of life is going to do when they trust a single panel urine test so much they will not even confirm the results.

Again I want to thank you for taking the time to help. I apologize about coming off a little angry but it's a very emotional topic and it's very difficult to accept the constant assumption that I'm a drug addict and a liar. I know that isn't your intent but when you include it in your comments it continues a pattern.

Just read Sam's comment (number 107)

Thinking back, I believe both of my positives occurred when insurance switched me from Lyrica to Gabapentin for a few months. I hadn't thought about that but having been on same meds for 4 years and never having positives other than during that span really makes me wonder.

Doh!

Most pharmacist since they have a college education can spell correctly and write a clear and concise sentence. You can't do either. Your obviously not a pharmacist as a matter of fact I don't think you're even a high school graduate....

That's a total made up like Zoloft does nothing of the sort? I am a pharmacist and I know the majority of you free actually taking benzos and other opiates saying that you're not taking them? Which is very common. Especially for addicts unfortunately. Admitting you have a problem is half the battle actually more than half the battle. There are tests that are known to be false negative and false positive that all you have to do is have them retest the test you took and if it comes up as a false positive again they will charge you as in you paying for the test and then the doctor will proceed accordingly as far as kicking you out of the program as you mentioned. So there's no anomaly in this whole thing I've taking many courses just on this topic alone in the 8 years that I went to school for pharmacology. Because I was a pharmacist MD. So wake up people just trying to help here

Sorry John, You aren't trying to help. You're just showing your ignorance and hate as you accuse everyone of lying and act like your "education" makes you an expert on drug test accuracy and apparently now psychology.

Just because you were repeatedly told something and had your memory tested to make sure you remembered what you were told doesn't mean ANY of it is actually true. You have to be able to think and put together facts to have any clue if what you were told was correct.

If you were to even trouble yourself (as much as you have here) to read actual analysis of test result accuracy you would know that it isn't very accurate. If you had any field knowledge you would know that getting another test isn't always easy or automatic and that even if it comes back negative your records still show a positive test and, given the stigma against some medication, can compromise the quality of your care forever.

No studies or analysis of any kind says the tests are 100% accurate. If you take enough tests you will eventually test positive. If you are on lifetime medication you'll end up with several positive tests. These are facts based on math instead of what you call facts which in several cases is basically just heresay.

The wake up call is for you. Stop pretending you can help the liars and assume you're talking to honest people with honest questions. The liars know they are lying but their existence doesn't change anything for the honest people. Everyone in your profession is so fixated on the cheaters you jump at any chance to put honest people into the cheater category. Amazing medications that can change lives and eliminate incredible suffering aren't being given to people who really need it because you and people like you are so concerned you might get tricked or because your entire industry is more concerned with drug addicts than sick people.

None of you are nearly as smart as you think and your myopic education makes you qualified to do nothing more than you were specifically trained to do. You're in fact less qualified to speak outside of your very specific area of expertise than most people with more rounded educations and or experience.

I'm in a methadone clinic in Brattleboro Vermont. They took a urine drug test. My sister died six years ago because of the mixture of benzos and methadone. I am very adamant about not taking any kind of benzos but I'm coming up positive for them. I don't like benzos and am scared s***less of taking them because of what happened to my sister. Although I take Tylenol pm and sleep aids cause I have had a really hard time sleeping. What can I do about this positive benzos bs. Please help.

God Bless you! I'm on the other side of the coin now for the past 12yrs with STAGE 4 CANCER! I DON'T CLAIM TO KNOW IT ALL ECT??? IT IS A HORRIBLE bureaucracy How my "OLD" PROFESSION DOCS & NOW PHARMACISTS ALIKE ARE TAKING AWAY MEDS FROM THE SICK & SUFFERING. The actual issue if you have read a lot or a few of my posts, is the DEA & OBAMA ADMIN ALONG WITH 'CERTAIN" STATES HAVING A NEW DRUG War on PRESCRIPTION DRUGS! MAINLY OPIATE'S & BENZOS ECT.... ANYWAY IT TOOK MOST LIKELY A FEW SENATORS & CONGESSMENS' CHILDREN TO OD OR DIE ECT, JUST TO HAVE THESE SCREWED UP DEA STRINGENT PROFILING ECT...IT WORKS ITS WAY DOWN TO THE UNDERPAID (IE. OBAMACARE) HMO CLINIC DOCS THAT LOSE LICENCES OVER JUST ACTUALLY DOING THERE JOBS? SMH....SO NOW I CANT EVEN TAKE PAIN MEDS FOR STAGE 4 CANCER, wtf? FOR THE PAST 2YRS BEEN STUCK ON METHADONE & IT DOESN'T WORK WELL FOR PAIN AT ALL? WORST PART IS THAT IT'S WAY MORE DANGEROUS & ADDICTING THAN ACTUAL HEROIN! HORRIBLE!??

Hey girl you're the one that's not very bright why don't you read the sentence? I also said for the last 12 years I've been a stage 4 cancer patient laid up in bed and on hospice for the past year-and-a-half. The last thing I want to do or care to do is correct my grammar ECT. You're the one that shows no education. Stop trolling people maybe you'll learn something I highly doubt it?

I have a couple important answers for all of you. If you're really serious and you're coming up with a false positive benzo test without using benzos? Then whoever is texting you by law has to retest you but with obviously the same your urinalysis because if they didn't use the same one it could still get out of your system? Otherwise the only other thing I have to say on this it would be wasting a lot of people's time that really need help what serious issues if you're just asking questions on finding out are trying to find out how long I want or can of it would take to come out of your system? There's no actual mean number or time? You can stay in fat cells up to 6 months. I'm just qualified telling you this as a MD and a pharmacist so I have both sides of the coin have also been tested for drugs many times and have had false positives for many different things. So it's definitely possible that out of all the various kinds of drug test which a 9 point drug test is the most sensitive in which it will be the highest checkpoints for any kind of drug? All I know is make sure if you're not using anything that has benzodiazepine in it then by law they have to retest at least in America but by using the same urinalysis and won't let you use another urinalysis when days go by? And no that doesn't mean that using the same test is it going to come out the same way. No matter what this thing is as well everything we do because whether we put it into a computer a human puts it into a computer so if you never did any kind of benzodiazepine? It's your right and really your duty to make sure that they are on point and not taking advantage of other patients like you if that is the case? I hope this helps you?

Hi Sarah, I have a lot of time on my hands so I try to help out as many people as possible especially because I've been through a lot of the same things and have a lot of training etcetera with this type of stuff so you get it kind of for free here? Anyway it comes down to almost every time that it is a methadone or pain management clinic dealing with take homes or something like that? The whole false positive or false negative can be anything meaning any type of medicine but most of the time it's just someone that wanted to be honest with themselves and might have even buried it in their mind that they didn't take that medicine? If you look it up it's an actual subconscious medical condition.

Have them retest the same exact test and if it's right meaning that it is a negative test then you will be fine. If not and you will have to pay for the test and if you have any steps with your contract you will lose them it's as simple as that there's no magic thing you can do now this happens from time to time nothing's perfect
