I tested positive for benzos with my parole officer during my weekly UA.. I was shocked, he said if I told him what I took I would get a free pass, if I denied it and sent it to the lab and it came back positive, I was going back to prison. I knew I have taken any, but it was still in my mind, did someone spike my drink?? A lot of what ifs, it was along week waiting for the lab results, but it came back negative, the only meds I take are aleve, hydrochlorathiazide for blood pressure, and statin for cholesterol, I was also using sinex nasal spray, I think it was the sinex, I had passed UA's every week for 6 months prior to this s***. Weird

yes, because Clonidine is a benzo otherwise known as Clonazepam, or Rivotril.

Do you ever drink energy drinks such as "monster"?. I'm trying to make as many people as possible aware of this probability because I went through Hell trying to convince my doctor and nurses I wasn't taking benzo's. I lost my right to take home my daily medication and was one test away from being kicked off the program. I had one nurse look at me one day and say " the only way you can test positive for a benzo's is if you take one". Thank God I proved her, and the rest of them wrong but not until I begged them to send my positive tests for more testing. From that day 10 months ago I have periodically tested positive but they know to send those ua's off for further testing prior to taking away any carry medications. Monster energy drinks is what causes my tests to be positive because I don't take anything other than my methadone.

I have had 2 false positives for benzos. I thought it was Naproxen sodium but skipped it for several weeks and still tested positive. 2 out of last 5 tests showed a positive.

I take Nuvigil, Lyrica, Oxycodone, Vivarin (caffeine) and Marijuana. I take methocarbamol every other month or so. No other under or over the counter anything other than antifungal cream on my feet on occasion.

My Dr refuses to allow a blood test or anything that might be more accurate and has instead decided I don't get anything if I get another false positive.

A. Do I have possible interaction issues knowing I went 3 weeks without the Naproxen which I know does cause some false positives?
B. Do I have any recourse or options to force a more accurate test?

It seems I either need to cheat or hire an attorney unless I want to go back to spending my entire life in bed.

Hi I've been a pharmacist for 12 years which knows more about actual medications and Physicians consult at least their favorite pharmacist daily multiple times regarding what to prescribe their patients and doses xcetera. I wanted to let you know that so you understand that what I'm saying is trying to help you and understand exactly what's going on.""SO THE ANSWER IS VERY SIMPLE BUDDY.. THIS CAN ALSO HELP "ANYONE ELSE" CONCERNED ABOUT THE BENZO TESTING TIMELINE (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH A MED'S HALF-LIFE). AS FAR AS ALMOST ALL BENZOS ARE CONCERNED & IT'S TESTING, LIKE VALIUM NO MATER HOW MUCH U TOOK? JUST LIKE XANAX OR KLONAPIN, NO MATTER WHAT U MIGHT HAVE TEAD ON THE INTERNET OR ANYWHERE? ID LIKE EVERYONE TO KNOW & AGAIN THIS IS COMMING FROM A PHARMACIST MD.....THESE BENZOS CAN BE IN A URINE TEST UP TO. 6 WEEKS!!!!! NOW THETE IS ASOLUTELY NO QUESTION regarding THIS POINT TO BE perfectly CLEAR!!! it's ALSO TRUE THAT JUST LIKE ANY OTHER DRUGS LIKE OPIATES ECT...OTHER FACTORS CAN CONTRIBUTE FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS WHERE "YES" ITS DEFINITELY POSSIBLE & HAPPENS ALL THE TIME, WHERE BENZOS CAN GET OUT OF YOUR URINE IN LESS TIME( BUT NO SHOROUT THEN 7-10 DAYS)... sorry for the long drawn-out answer but I figured that even though you must of gotten an answer from your question based on the date that you submitted your question by now? I wanted to have this definitive answer for many people that have this exact question and there are way too many ridiculously inaccurate answers for something as simple as this. I do understand though how people are trying to help but it comes down to most of them are just going off their own experience or simply Googling these answers that they find which is not something you should rely on. I am an expert in this field and I don't know everything but I would let you know that regarding this if I didn't know what I was saying when I'm answering this question so I hope this helps plenty of people as the spending my time doing this because I would also recommend using other web sites and Forum type things that actually have all types of professionals that do this for free answering questions!! So I hope this reaches and helps lots of people have a wonderful day

I like to always say that state my qualifications that I am a pharmacist which is called also a pharmacist MD that works and most of the time emergency rooms or hospitals. In fact almost every doctor that's not a quack since pharmacists know more about medication Then any physician does. Now I try to help people out and I also state that they should use another website where professionals can answer these questions for free and I'm sure you would know that based on what I read as well in your post. I can tell you're very intelligent and for 1 there are many things mainly any type of medication whether it's prescribed or over-the-counter that can cause a false positive or false negative even for any type of urinalysis and the quality of the urinalysis. So the whole naproxen thing basically means nothing you can find any medication as I stated that can show a false positive for anything it's not that particular medication that will show a false positive like I was stating. Now I see this is also something you just posted a few days ago not sure if you found the answer yet but this is also for people that might have some similar question and don't understand and could get and gain the help through this since I'm also retired since I'm a stage 4 cancer patient and spent 10 years as pharmmd. Again what that is is a pharmacist that can write prescriptions and the only thing they can do is write a schedule 2 medication. So again they can do everything that a physician can do except write that medication like Oxycontin and certain pain medications so that's it. In fact we have more schooling and obviously more knowledge than any doctor does that's why they go to us during every day to find out everything from A to Z about medications that they prescribe me or want to prescribe for their patients. Now as far as you're concerned and your so-called question because I think you already answered your own question and know the answer which I don't understand why people post things that they might already understand it's like your doctor is not going to be reading this to help you and I'm not trying to be insensitive because again I am a stage 4 cancer patient so I have had to deal with on a consistent basis so horrible Dr that have no idea what they're talking about and screw up your health with their unethical treatment. So I already pretty much answered the question you asked in your post meaning that again naproxen or any of those medications could give a false positive or a false negative I'm not sure if you're taking these tests for special pain clinic or methadone clinic? Usually it's one of those two type of places that would make you take urine tests where they have you sign a contract ECT.? Either way though as I said naproxen or any of those other drugs have nothing to do with the last part of your post. Meaning as well you could at any time have had false negative urinalysis for any type of medication unless you're actually taking whatever medication you're not supposed to take? So these are your options if you are taking a medication that you're not supposed to be taking then you are basically caught. Playing games as far as like you were talking about trying to mess with a test because you're going to be caught in the end and if you're really sick talking about being laid up as I said I'm a stage 4 cancer patient and recently I have been on hospice and myself couldn't walk for a year and a half an hour can I eat I was on a feeding tube and fighting it and now I can walk and everything so I've also been a patient and Emma patient as well as a professional in this field. So in my spare time which I have a lot of now I post some answers to this site and some others. Now you can always at any place that requires drug testing whether it's a pain clinic or whatever it is? You can request another test but it wouldn't be you actually testing again they would use that same sample and you would have to pay for it if it's still turned up positive because sometimes the first test is known to come up is false positive test. So only you know if you actually used whatever medication you were not supposed to and are willing to pay for a retest but again they don't have you take another test they just used the simple that was used before. As far as any legal action you can always go to somebody but it's basically Fool's Gold if you know what I mean? Because you are given that legal options always to have that test redone because mistakes are always made. But in almost 99.9 percent of these cases you already know the outcome because you know what you put in your body. So I would recommend if you didn't take any drug that you weren't supposed to take at all and I'm talking about a lot of drugs can stay in your system and in fat cells and all types of things even though that it's just a urinalysis, they still show what is in. So once again if you feel like or no that you didn't take any medication that you were not supposed to take whether it be 2 months or 3 months or whatever the time period That you've been on this program, then I would definitely request a retest and talk to a legal aid person for sure. Otherwise you're out of luck and you need to just go straight in and talk to your doctor and let them know that you did screw up and I don't know your exact situation but if you're an addict and really whatever the situation is? A lot of times just as I know myself as a patient it's not always the right thing to do to be honest like they tell you totally with your doctor but in your case you need to be totally honest if you did use at any point during this. When you're being drug tested let him know that you took this and be totally honest and basically begged them to give you another chance!! I truly hope this long post helped you and hope it reaches others if you have any questions I will reply back to anyone since I made up myself as I stated before. I've done this work for over a decade before at this point six surgeries later I have a rare cancer and it's stage 4 at this point so I've been in every pretty much situation on both sides of the coin. So I try to help out as many people as I can on this site and a few others and I have no problem since I am laid up helping others if I can and there's nothing out of bounds because I've been through it all trust me and I definitely understand have a great day. Hang in there.

Not trying to be rude I'm just trying to also help people and also at times need help myself and have questions but I am pharmacist for the past decade and am a pharmmd witch is basically exactly the same as a doctor which we can prescribe any medication except for any scheduled to medications and doctors come to us to ask about anything basically a lot of the medications you might take with your doctor they are Consulting us regarding what to prescribe you ECT. Anyway I just wanted to let you know everything you said was pretty much true about benzodiazepines in layman's terms like you were trying to do? But the only thing is that you were wrong in the case about valium is diazepam which you said anything that ends with a pam except for Valium is the benzodiazepine. So you were wrong when you said except for Valium. Because as I stated Valium is benzodiazepine in the actual name being that Valium is just the brand name and diazepam is a benzodiazepine. That's all I just wanted to clear that up mainly for anyone else that was reading the post. If anyone else has any questions I'm very glad to answer them when I can because I myself now for the past 11 years has been a stage 4 cancer patient with many surgeries and so I'm on both sides of the coin with my professional life in the past as well as dealing with every type of doctor on the other side which is definitely a pain in the you-know-what, LOL. Have a great day.

Benadryl can cause a fals positive. It's the diphenhydramine that will cause this

Look I read a few of the post and I'm replying to you and a bunch of people if you read some of my posts you'll see my qualifications as a pharmacist for almost 15 years and I must have stage 4 cancer patient so I have that in common as far as I also take a lot of these medications and have to take tests periodically. I also tell anybody that actually replies to any of my posts since I can't leave my email address or I would speak to you frankly if you know what I'm saying? Basically as far as false positive tests go in general if any of you or all of you are being honest and aren't taking any benzodiazepines whatsoever which you would know what you're ingesting and could find out with one click of a button. Meaning the internet will tell you and you do know what you're taking and if you don't like if you're taking a pill like from the internet that you bought like an online pharmacy that saying it might be just ibuprofen. I use that as an example because it's possible that it could be any drug so never do those things unless you know what you're getting into because you actually could die and I know some friends that that happened to so just be careful and get in touch with me if you have any questions about that KIND OF STUFF AS WELL!!

So regarding false positives it can happen to anyone for any reason. In fact I have a special urinalysis test I have to take every 6 months for my stage 4 cancer and so it's known to show false positives or false negatives in my case it was a false negative which is horrible because obviously with my type of rare cancer they don't do the next step which would be a MRI to confirm that the cancer is back which is very aggressive. My point being is that anything really can trigger a false negative or a false positive test and it doesn't have to be anything that you're ingesting either it could be something natural in your body that produces it or it can be something you actually eating your food that would contribute to the test being a false negative or false positive. Now remember I'm speaking from many years of this type of experience being a pharmacist MD which is a pharmacist that has extra schooling and can actually write prescriptions eccept for schedule 2 medications?

So again I also wanted to answer this person's post that for some reason thinks that clonidine is a benzodiazepine and it's nothing of the sort that is 100% wrong. You actually mentioned that clonidine is actually Klonopin or otherwise known as clonazepam or rivotril and many other names that is called outside the US and all around the world. In fact every medication we take has hundreds of other different names that you wouldn't even recognize outside of the USA. I'm not sure if some people are using this website in other parts of the world. But I'm not sure about that either way no clonidine is 4 high blood pressure and that's mainly what it's prescribed for but many prescriptions are also prescribed off-label but lately the government has lost their mind which is nothing new regarding drugs that they prescribed and how they prescribe them which literally makes me sick and if I could work I would definitely be out of the health profession and that's why lots of medical doctors and alike are leaving the profession as if we already didn't have a shortage of doctors if you didn't notice yet? Anyway I usually am available 24-7 for the most part since I'm laid in bed which is pretty messed up because it's been 10 years now and been through hospice where they thought I was going to die? I also couldn't eat or walk for a year-and-a-half and I'm still alive and I'm walking and eating again. So remember I don't know how it works but I can't leave my information and on this site or they won't let me leave these posts and I'm trying to help out as many people as possible because I understand how frustrating that can be. But like I said you just press reply to my post and it gives me notice to my real email address that I will then get back to you if you have further questions but you have to address me as John so I know that it's you asking me the question and we'll figure it out because I just got 1 for the first time right now and I can't figure out who's asking me what LOL? So I hope I help out some people regarding all this false negative stuff or false positive same thing really. And remember not only do I have a lot of experience as a professional in this field but I'm also a patient! So for the last 11 years being a stage 4 cancer patient and taking most of this medication and lots more I have a lot of experience that way too so I can really HELP ALOT OF YOU PEOPLE WITH OTHER QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE? IF YOU CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M SAYING THEN DEFINITELY GET IN TOUCH WITH ME?!! I CAN & AM TOTALLY WILLING TO HELP YOU OUT!!!!! Hope I answered those questions they're very direct and just be honest with yourself you feel me?

It's not the Benadryl it's really any medication and it doesn't even have to be a medication at all for them to come back false positive or false negatives. So everyone pretty much is asking the same question.

But honestly what I've noticed is you just gotta be honest with yourself, everybody you know if you've taken a benzodiazepine and what you put in your mouth right that's the bottom line so you know if you're taking any kind of medication and you should if you don't know when slipping you some type of Mickey lol meaning no one's slipping you some type of drug. So when it comes to people that are on probation or sign drug contract with their doctors I have been on many of these medicines and more of them so I have that experience as well and can tell you from experience I've had the same thing happened to me and what you can do is for 1 you can always request any of these people who test you and it's a law so you can go to the legal aid if you don't have money for a lawyer to fight this? But it's your right for you to have this test or any test you take retested! But they will retest the exact your analysis that you took before and was and came back false positive or false negative. So it's not like you get to take another test all over again or anything. In most cases as well if it comes back again as a false positive then they will make you pay for whatever the test cost and usually it's covered under your insurance for the first test but you usually have to sign a piece of paper when you first sign up with the agreement either in a methadone clinic pain clinic or any doctor that's states that stuff. But it's your right and they can't just discharge you on those grounds. So make sure you understand your rights because Physicians have gotten worse and worse ever since Obamacare happened and don't get me started regarding that because as you see I already like to try to help as many people as possible and my post might be long but basically if you reply to my post from what I see it will send me a direct email to my inbox, leave my name John and I will try to find a way with you to correspond?

MEANING ANYONE ELSE THAT MIGHT NEED ANYTHING AT ALL??? THAT YOU THINK I CAN HELP YOU WITH, IF YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M SAYING FRIENDS?

But it has nothing to do with ibuprofen if you read any of my posts and I'm a pharmacist always glad to help but I want you to know that be honest with yourself for once and again you don't want to take a lot of ibuprofen it'll mess up your liver if it's not messed up already? Just take Ibuprofen as it says on the bottle or your doctor tells you to take if it's a higher dose and you'll be fine. It's never going to just come up as diazepam I promise you that I went to school as meaning a long time to become a pharm MD which is basically a doctor who knows more about medication then doctors do and also I am able to write prescriptions except for schedule 2 medication which is medicines like Oxycontin and stuff like that most pain medicines. So I'm telling you that anything could come up as a false negative or false positive and you always have rights meaning that if your on probation like I think you might have mentioned because I try to help as many people as possible since I myself have stage 4 cancer and right now and for the last 11 years so I'm laid up almost 24 7 and if you need any help ever THEN JUST REPLY AND IN YOUR POST JUST USE MY NAME IN IT PEOPLE & I WILL TRY TO REPLY ASAP? Thank you have a great day guys. Remember I'm in the same boat as you are except I just have the schooling and the license so I can give you proper information that I've learned!!! :) :)

Now regarding your exact question it's very simple. If you said that you took benzos I forgot if it says a week or two weeks ago maybe even three but I think it was less than 3 weeks and I'm not sure if you said what kind of benzos maybe you said diazepam or just said benzos? But either way and a lot of doctors don't know this even as well for some reason but the labs do and of course it can show up most benzos will in fact and can stay in your system and urine for up to 6 weeks!

So again if you're going to take any benzos and you're not sure when you're going to be tested make sure that you don't take any benzos if you're going to be tested and you're not sure of the date because it could be in your system like I said for up to 6 weeks. If you're into Taking Chances it sometimes comes out quicker but never quicker than a couple weeks even if you drink tons of water but I'm not saying to do anything like try to use a cover up for any of these things that they say you can do from all the different things they say online and you probably seen before? Either way these tests that they have now especially ones that Labs do or the hospital all kinds of them regardless they show up as some type of cover up in layman's terms so I would just say don't use benzos within 6 weeks of a test unfortunately it's one of those that will be mostly in your urine up to six weeks sometimes shorter but it's up to you about taking the chance? I hope that helps you out

Your clinic should offer you to be tested more thorough through the hospital. It will show detailed info of what's showing up as a false positive for benzos. Most clinics do anyway. Benydrils do show false positives for benzos at times. Good luck to ya.

Here is a message for all on this chat page. Urinalysis is a cheap way to test for drug abuse however the results of this cheap and highly HIGHLY unreliable test is and will always be subject to cross contamination by everything from the food consumed in the previous 48 hours to OTC medications. For example ...eating a poppy seed bagel can result in a positive heroin result. THIS IS A FACT! Google it! Using Aspercream with lidocaine can leave cocaine metabolites in urine showing a false positive for cocaine abuse. Most if not all "dipstick urinalysis" has up to a 30% false positive or false negative rate and that is the bottom line period. There is ONLY ONE WAY to know absolutely what is or is not in ones urine and that is a Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry test. However that test can cost anywhere from $250 to $500 bucks, NOT $2.50 which is the cost of Dipstick test purchased wholesale on Amazon. Many lives and carries have gone down the s***ter along with tested urine and that is so unfortunate. So my advice to anyone who's life or wellbeing is on the urinalysis test chopping block is GET A LAWYER AND THREATENED LAW SUIT. I assure you that will get the attention of your overlords.

Hi John: This post I'm sharing with you is more of a statement than a question, and I have shared this information with as many people as I could on here over the years. John, did you know that I have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that energy drinks such as "Monster" will cause you to test positive for Benzos? I had been in a treatment program for a couple of years, and all of a sudden one month I began testing positive for benzo's which I vehemently tried to deny because I knew for a fact I wasn't taking anything like that. I ended up losing all my carries, and was one appointment away from being kicked out of the program when my doctor FINALLY sent one of my positive ones off for more detailed testing. When that test came back (very expensive test I might add) it stated that there were NO Benzo's detected in my sample at all! Of course now began the task of trying to find out what was causing the initial tests to come back positive in the first place because my doctor did not want to send my tests away every time as it costs a lot of money, and not to mention they had to send it out of province for God's sake. Long story short we started to suspect energy drinks early on, and seeing as how the only medication I was taking at the time was methadone it had to be the culprit. So one week I went without drinking any energy drinks at all, and that Friday morning I went to the clinic, gave a sample and then drank half a can witnessed by the nurse. I had to wait in their presence for 2 hours, and then give another sample which was shipped off together for testing. Well 2 weeks later I find out for sure that the first sample came back clean, and the second came back positive for benzo's. Those were then sent on to the second testing, and neither one of them came back positive for any type of benzo!! I have never in my life went through such stress, and vindication all at once and I can't tell you how good it felt to finally have the proof I needed to make them believe me. I mean it's not exactly the easiest thing in the world to try and convince someone that you are telling the truth when you are a known drug addict. One day during all of this nightmare I actually had a Nurse Practitioner tell me this "Sarah, I was speaking to someone at the lab, and they said the only way you can test positive for a benzo is if you ingested it"! She then went on to say that I need to start being honest with them about my drug use from there on out. I can't tell you how many times I left my doctor's office in tears during this 5 month long nightmare. So to anyone reading this post, if you are drinking energy drinks, and testing positive for benzos when you know you aren't taking any please demand they send your tests off for more extensive testing (even if you have to pay yourself)!
