I have been taking 20mg Fluoxetine and 15mg of Mirtazapine daily. I have entered a drug study for depression and keep showing benzodiazapine positive though I'm not using any.

I've come to the conclusion that you can in fact have false positives for Benzodiazepines while taking a Selective Seratonin Re-uptake Inhibitor (SSRI) such as Fluoxetine.

Although it is not commonly known for causing false positives for Benzodiazepines, there's always that chance.

In any case, many places should allow you to present proof of a prescription prior to the screening; that way you won't be held accountable for a positive result. I would consider letting them know what's going on, if you haven't already.

I hope this helps!

I just took my weekly drug test and I popped positive for benzos. It was,a 6 panel urin test. The only thing I have taken in the last 4 weeks is ibuprofen. Daily, actually. Can this test positive?

Hi, I'm really upset today because I'm in drug rehab (voluntarily) and was told today that I tested positive last week for opiates and benzodiapines. I am positive that I haven't taken any of these! I have been really working hard in rehab and am devastated by this'! I had one relapse and admitted it, even though it never came up on a test. The only medications that I have been taking any differently are some nighttime cold medicine for cough and a generic like Walgreens version if Benadryl during the day for allergies. Also I'm on prescriptions; Wellbutrin, Buspar, Resperidone and Trazadone, but I've been on them for awhile and haven't come up positive. I've been racking my brain trying to think of what could've happened and am so worried that I will come up positive and be kicked out after doing so well for 7 months! I just need advice, I want my counselor to believe me, but I know she doesn't.

I am also on prozac and on felony probation. I have been taking tests for a rehab and my probation officer often for a year. I have never came up dirty for anything until wed. there was a very faint line showing a positive for benzos. I am wondering is there anyway to prove that this is infact a false positive.

I am at a loss. I take Methadone and the last 3 urines have been positive for Benzos. I haven't taken any Benzos. What could be causing this. I take benadryl religiously every night to help me sleep. I take Neurontin, Ibuprophine and Tylenol daily too. I was kicked out of the Methadone program because of the false positives and there is NOTHING I can do to prove my case. My counselor just looked at me like I was a liar. I was crying like a baby in her office and she just shook her head. Talk about feeling powerless. I cant believe they rely on this method when clearly from reading this blog there a people that have problems. Has anyone out there been able to fight these false positives or find a legitimate argument for re-testing. What if this was a over a legal problem like if you were tested by the court and a positive would make you go to jail or something.

oh I forgot to mention I take Prozac and Celexa as well and in reading the posts everything I take has led to false positives. I cant imagine life without these medications including the Methadone. I shouldn't have to choose. Can anyone find proof of the false positives and medications that cause them for Benzos
