I SHOWER A COUPLE TIMES A DAY AND ON THE SECOND DAY THE PATCH WON'T STAY ON.THEN YOU USE MORE THAN WHAT IS PERSCRIBED AND YOU RUN OUT OF PATCHES AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY WON'T PAY FOR ANY MORE THAN PERSCRIBED, THEN COMES WITHDRAWAL?

There are three different manufacturers of Fentanyl, each are different. Some may work better for certain patients than others.
I've tried 2 different patched and have had no problem with either and that includes swimming , showering. Etc.
Make sure the area is dry. Shave all the hair off the area at least1- 2 days before putting on the patch. Hold it down for 30 sec. The patches cannot be exposed to high temperatures. So do not run hot water Rigg on the patch. I do that area last with colder water. I have several other comments about this patch in the 50s. You can read those as well. Good luck.

I was recently prescribed the fentanyl patch 75 mg, and I got the meloncrodpt kind, which I'm sure I spelt it wrong. I've had it on now, I'm on my second patch. I've done a lot of reading. With people that have been on these patches for a long time, which brand is the best, that way next month I can request it at my pharmacy. These are just barely keeping out of withdrawal. Does anyone, know once you have it on what you can do to make it work better? I've tried heat, blow dryers, what else can I do? I paid 150. For them and they suck. Ty amy

Ive heard that u can contact the manufacturer of the patches you use ,and they will send you tegaderm film free of charge. No reason u should pay for it when they sell patches at HIGH prices and say that they Will stay on. Good luck

I have been using Fentanyl patches for years. At the beginning they would not stick.
The pharmacy ordered a different brand name of the patches and in seven years only one came off and it was my own fault.

Do not cover the patches with any kind of tape. If you read instructions it will tell you that.

At the beginning I found they would come off if I used too much oil in my bath or cream rinse got on them while rinsing my hair.

I have on occasion called the manufacturer of the brand I use, there is a number on the box to call. They have always been very helpful giving information and answering questions.

PLEASE HEAR ME ANYONE AND EVERYONE. I AM THE FENTANYL MASTER OF SORTS. I'VE BEEN ON AS MUCH AS 150MCG A DAY. I WAS ON FENTANYL FOR MANY MANY YEARS AT LEAST 6 OR 7. I WILL ANSWER A BUNCH OF QUESTIONS HERE. #1 FENTANYL IS A MIRACLE DRUG IN A SENSE, HOWEVER.........even though its legal and is coming from your doctor, most people (including myself) are typically unaware that it is a minimum 100 times stronger than morphine, even heroin. thats why its dosage is in micrograms. anyways, i tapered off fentanyl for 18 months.... thats right a year and half and i still wound up needing the help of a detox center. most places will offer you suboxone (which is free while there, but hundreds in RX costs) that stuff will cure you, but now what..... you want to be on suboxone your whole life?; granted they can and will taper you if needed, but...
at the detox place they are trained and they score you and give you some kind of a benzo, i think llibrium and colonidine to stop the leg twitches, plus belly pills and so much more. i am currently researching tramadol and other options but i think it best to try and live without it. i never went through anything like the last step off fentanyl. even tapering the doctors dont tell you that if you ever want to get off you will literally need to be drunk the whole time your detoxing, or you get help from an actual center. this was by far the worst experience of my life. and hear me clearly......
i quit meth 10 years ago and never went back
i quit smoking pot 15 years ago and never went back
i quit cigarettes
everyone in the place i just left was there for opiate addicition. heed my warning as good as they are and good as they work, the withdrawals are borderline suicidal......... nothing in my life ever compared to this and again i tappered over 1 1/2 years......... as for the shower and or swimming in a pool or if the patch comes...... quit wasting them and running short. put the damn patch back on and use skin tape; however i evolved from skin tape to an ace bandage cut in half so its not too long. put the patch back on and wrap it up and youre good to go, plus once you take the ace bandage off hours later you will see that its pretty much restuck. honest answer.... you can take a patch off anytime for any length of time and nothing happens to fentanyl as long as you havent stuck it to something porous or weird. just set it upside down while in pool, tub, shower, whatever.........ace bandage.....hands down!!!! and it took me years to get that down.

Ben......may I ask why you were on Fentanyl? I have been getting relief for a chronic condition and cancer for over 8 years now. I also wear 150 mcg in Fentanyl.

The manufacturer does not recommend putting tape over the patches to keep them on. When I had an issue at the beginning I changed brands and they were fine.

I have never had to remove patches for shower or swimming. If they are not sticking then you need to research why, improper application...too much oil or soap on your skin etc.

Removing your patches and saving them is not a good thing to do. You disrupt the amount of medication you are receiving and therefore you will suffer. Why would you?

I was told at the time of my first prescription how strong fentanyl was. Like any medication there are going to be withdrawel issues. It only makes sense it would take a while to stop taking it. It takes a while to get to a high dose. You gradually increase therefore gradually decrease.

We are all different, our tolerance to the drug is different. None of us will react the same. Anyone who uses Fentanyl needs to have constant care from a Dr and take his advice seriously as well as the manufacturers.

The thing I learned to do and I have been on patches for 5 years is to get a clean wash cloth put it under hot tap water as hot as you can stand it scrub the area with the wash cloth as hard as possible for 10 to 15 seconds a couple times. Let it dry and do not touch it then put the patch on right away and press it down hard and hold it for 30 seconds. After doing that I have only lost 2 in 5 years. It's your body oils that cause it to release don't us soap or it won't work.

Cronic pain from multiple sclerosis (affects the central nervous system), which includes fibromyalgia and muscle spasticity as well as a myriad of back problems. I've been on schedule II drugs for over 30 years. Since getting the patch I onle ned oral medication for break through pain. My pain is so unbearable that I would eventually commit suicide if I didn't receive pain medication.

I tried lots of things and settled on Saran Wrap. I wear mine on my arm and wrap all the way around. I do secure the top with clear packing tape-first aid type tape will not hold. Seems like sometimes i get a box that is just not as adhesive so I have also worn a section cut from a sock to keep secure while still allowing it to "breathe".

I was prescribed the patch for two inoperable herniated disc that put me in constant pain that made life unlivable. I hated using them so bad I stated look for alternatives. I found one that worked for me called kratom, this herb was banned in Thailand because there opium is used and taxed and people found that by using kratom the could stop using opium and the government would loose there tax base. So it sounded like an advertisements for how well it worked, and it worked for me. I had been on fentinal since 2004 and now no longer need it or use it.

I had the same issue at the beginning of wearing patches over 8 years ago.

I went in and told the pharmacy and they changed the brand of Fentanyl patch I was using. They are great now. Also my pharmacy replaced the ones that came off so that I was not short.

Until you find some that stick better, use a fabric tape, cut it down in width so there is just enough to go around the edge of the patch. Do not completely cover the patch with tape as it interferes with the release of the med.

My hubby puts mine on me and he always washes the are with a facecloth and water only, then dries the area well before applying. They will not stick if they are on oily skin or skin that has residual soap, lotions and hair conditioner on the skin.

I hope this helped, good luck

Hi. I am prescribed Fentanyl 25 mg patches and initially had a HUGE problem keeping them from falling off. I would find them in the sheets in the AM (which could be lethal to my husband if he were to have it stick to him), stuck to my nightgown, etc. I talked to my pharmacist and he recommended using a Tegaderm patch which is available over the counter (my pharmacist charges $.40/ea.). You can also get them from your doctor. If you have had IVs, you most likely have had it covered with a Tegaderm patch. Not only does it keep the patch on for the full 3 days, it is also water proof so it keeps the patch from getting water logged. Hope this helps! Depending on the size of your patch, you may want to use 2 Tegaderms. I go ahead and get at least 2 per patch I've been prescribed.

I can't speak for no one but myself. I broke my back in 5 places. Backed over by a truck. This was in 2001. The last prescription of pills i had filled was 3 80 oxycontins 4 30 roxis and 120 somas and 120 klonopin. And others picked up here and there. But that was my legal monthly prescription. I asked to go on patch i was sick of staying high and not having any life. 150 mcg patches changed my life. I have a life again no pills at all and swapped over immediately no weaning off. After a couple weeks of adjustment to not taking pills. My life is great 100 percent more active. A family life again. I thank God for the patch. If everyone else hates them im one that dont. 4 years now. Alcohol area put on patch and cover with the 3m brand clear patch cover. Zero problems. I sweat shower swim everything. Very very few problems. No lotions before. Good luck.

kratom works quite well for the people who can stomach it....
i used it daily for 3 years with great success for giving me energy while killing a good deal of pain....

i originally started using it to ease me off of oxycodone......i had almost no withdrawals at all !

...because **and not sure that you've ever used one of these patches or not id say no after reading your comment lmao but....**once you put it on the adhesive structure of the patch is compromised meaning it loses its ability to stick at all after that amongst MANY other reasons that you do not ever do as you suggested...so that isn't an option or people would have been doing it a long time ago. lmao duh

simple answer. use a bioclusive bandage (tape) on it. ive been using this over my oatch for 10 yrs now.. at first it is painful to get the tape off, but you soon get used to it.. besides you can slowly ease it off in the shower. the bioclusive tape is brilliant and my doctor prescribes it to me together with the patch. you can swim, shower, etc with it... completly waterproff.. just cu the it to size and apply ontop of the patch to keep it secure.
