Fentanyl 50 Mcg/hour Transdermal Patch (Page 6)

Updated

I WAS PRESCRIBED THE 50 MCG/HR FENTANYL PATCH FOR CHRONIC BACK PAIN & DEGENERATIVE DISC DISEASE. I WAS GIVEN THE PRESCRIPTION SEVERAL WEEKS AGO. I JUST GOT IT FILLED 2 DAYS AGO BECAUSE I'M AFRIAD TO USE IT. I HAVE READ ALL THE PATIENT INFO, RESEARCHED IT ON THE NET & TALKED TO SEVERAL PHARMACISTS AS WELL AS MY PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN. ALL OF THE PHYSICIANS & PHARMACISTS TELL ME THAT THE PATCH WILL HELP ME WITH THE DAILY PAIN. THEY SAY THAT THE PATCH SHOULD NOT CAUSE ME ANY HARM BUT THE ONE TING THAT'S STOPPING ME FROM USING IT IS THE RESPIRATORY SIDE EFFECTS & POSSIBLE OVERDOSE. I'M SEEKING SOME ADVISE FROM PEOPLE THAT HAVE USED THIS DRUG BEFORE WHETHER IT WAS A GOOD OR BAD OUTCOME.

I AM OPOID TOLERANT BECAUSE I'VE BEEN DEALING WITH THIS PAIN FOR THE LAST 5-6 YEARS. WHEN I HAVE A BREAKTHROUGH OF PAIN & HAVE TO SEEK EMERGENCY TREATMENT OTHER PAIN MEDS GIVEN (IV OR IM) DON'T WORK ANYMORE. ER'S HAVE GIVEN ME MORPHINE & IT DOESN'T EVEN TAKE THE EDGE OFF THE PAIN. DILAUDID DOESN'T WORK UNLESS I'M GIVEN MORE THAN 3MG'S & THAT WEARS OFF AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR IF IT LASTS THAT LONG. WHEN I'M IN SEVERE PAIN MY PRESSURE RISES. I'M AFRAID OF THE PATCH B/C I DON'T WANT TO FAINT OR PASS OUT FROM A DROP IN MY PRESSURE. I'M CURRENTLY TAKING VICODIN 7.5/500 EVERY 4 HOURS. I HAVE NOW BUILT A TOLERANCE FOR THE VICODIN AND IT HAS BEEN CHANGED TO PERCOCET 5/325 & SOMETIMES I CAN TAKE UP TO 3 OF THEM EVERY 4 HOURS.

I'M ALSO ON OTHER MEDS THAT I BELIEVE WILL INTERACT WITH THE FENTANYL. I TAKE LEXAPRO, ATIVAN, CLONIDINE DAILY. I NEED SERIOUS HELP!!!

Stopping oxycodone or oxytonin will also cause you to go through horrible withdrawals for 2-3 days. Now I know the pain when you see people on documentaries that have been using herion and then suddendy don't have any to take. Basically the same withdrawals from the pills, but maybe not quite as hard as a herion junkie. How do I know. I was seeing a pain specialist and getting injections years ago, which all the shots didn't do a damn thing. I had him take me off the 60mgs of oxycontin all at once and oh my God, thats the worst feeling mentally and physically any one can go through. I used the fentynl 50 patch for 3 days, but they just refused to stay stuck to my skin anywhere I put it. Plus they bubble up in between and you don't get the medicicine like you should, so I myself can't verify that they work worth a crap. I think I also was having mini withdrawals because they keep bubbling up and not staying flat to my skin. I returned them to my surgeon and he put me back on oxycodones, but decreased my daily amount to take from 60 mg's to 40 mg's. That hasn't been helpful. Physical therapy makes my bones hurt worse. Just had another MRI and they used dye in my blood stream this time to look at my tissue surrounding my pain area and is suppose to be also making sure my fusion is holding up. I need to convince him to at least get me back up to 60mg's of some kinda pain killer. 40mgs just hasn't been cutting it. I'm always so uncomfortable and get tempted to take more, but then I'd run out before I could refill again. I did try some pot a couple Months ago, but I don't like that high. Feel strange on pot. Not for me.

I was put on Fentenyl Patch 75mcg. 4 yr ago for CTD/Fibromyalgia. Worked great the first 3 yr. Then watching a Documentary on TV of the abuse, meds in the patch...they scarred the heck out of me. Finally at 4yr of using the patch I decided I had to control the pain another way and would discuss with my Doc next OV. I missed placing the patch one evening and thought..wow no withdrawl I can do this. Well, let me tell you, it was nothing I would wish on my worst enemy. Chills, sweats, nausea, insomnia for a wk. My Doc ordered another pain med to substitute the patch and to take every 12 hr. I ended up taking every 6 hr. to get thru it. I am now at day 9 and still having symptoms. Weakness in my legs, unsteady. I will do this...as I refuse to ever go back on them. The other Doc who initially ordered never of course mentioned the "physical dependency" of these patches. To all who needs to know..DO EVER USE THESE PATCHES.

I was just prescribed the Patch and it was the 50 mcg/hr, I like most of all the posts have had my fill of prescription drugs that last barely a couple of hours in the mean time I feel like I am popping M & M's and it has done nothing for the pain. The 50 mcg/hr is a little strong if you want to start out a little lighter and work your way up start with the 25 mcg/hr and test that first the 50 mcg/hr really really works, but can be hard to focus and work during the week on, also try to drive, the effects for me were just extremely sleepy and not hungry and I slept the first night like I have never slept before the full night without waking up whinching in pain to move to a spot that didnt' hurt. So my suggestion is try the 25 mcg/hr and if that is not stronger move up gradually.

I've been on the fentanyl patch for over 10 years. I had an auto accident that left my back in dire straits. First the 25 then 50. To supplement that I have oral morphine and lortab if needed. Lortab tends to make me moody and nauseated. The morphine when I do take it stops the withdrawls inbetween patches as I forget to change it. I've now been on 50mcg for 8 years without change. It is during the fall and winter months that the meds increase. During the spring and summer the patch does just fine still. A word of warning though, through the years I've tried to come off of it.... a dangerous thing to do without medical help.

I haven't had those patches since I first starting using them. I returned them to my surgeon and had him put me back on oral meds because those patches bubble up and won't stay stuck to my skin. How do you people keep the patches on your skin ? Maybe it was just the maker of the kind I was getting that maybe they didn't have good glue on them.

Walmart carries the Watson brand patch that stays on. It's not a little strip but a appox 1 1/2 x 4 inch patch. The others which are little strips don't stay on . The patch has helped me regain my life back.

Due to a failed fusion, I have been on morphine for over 4 years. I moved on to the fentanyl patch 4 months ago The patch has taken away the daily throbbing that was driving me crazy. At times I will admit I wanted to be dead! I still have extreme pain from my shins to the balls of my feet, which I pretty much accept. Th eonly problem I have with the patch is I want to sleep even though I am not tired.

I hope you are feeling better with the patch. I have been on the patch for about 3.5 yeras due to severe CP from an auto accident. It helps me a lot! I still need Vicodin for breakthrough pain. I worry though about the possibility of leakage (deaths_ this scares me) but when I am in so much pain, I dont care about the risk (at that time). But if you use it correctly, it will be fine. NEVER USE MORE THAN one patch. I also advise folks to LOCK their med’s up out of reach of kids, etc. God bless

you will be OK, I have been on 75 mg for over 5 years, and it works great, I think I will have to go to 100 mg. It will be OK, and you will like the pain relief you get. Well worth it.

Understood. But please try and use appropriate spelling when it comes to pronouncing medications. It's confusing and frustrating. I don't mean typo's and the like either. Your medications are Hydromorphone aka Dillaudid and Fentanyl not Hydromorphin and Pentanyl. We all would sincerely appreciate proper spelling.

Its the best opiate/pain killer Ive ever taken....the strongest too,in the form of relief it gives....If u wear it as instructed it is time released,so no need to worry about overdose....However,the best and quickest way to get relief from it is the way I use it....Cut all but 1 end off the patch so you can pull the patch apart, revealing the gel side....next stick the exposed gel side on ur stomach below the ribcage, and tape it down with large medical tape....youll b amazed at the pain relief u get

Yes fentanyl and methadone are the worst two opiates to come off of and withdrawal from....Guess its because they are considered the strongest opiates you can get,or fentanyl is at least....Methadone is hard because it gets in your bones, and lord does that hurt like he.. when its bone pain

Use the Fentanyl its safe and so much better than Percs or Vicodin there not at all strong I switched to Fentanyl from 5x80mg of oxycodin daily I am opioid tolerant I am at this time using 2x100mcg patches and change them every 48 hours not 72 the reason for the change at 48 is I have troubles with the patch staying on for the 72 hours. As for your pressure dropping and your respiration I have sever Atrial Fibrillation and cardiomyopathy and I take so many heart meds its nutty like a handful 2xdaily but all of my heart specialists tell me that the Fentanyl is the best pain med I could be on if I have to be on one it is the cleanest and safest being 100% synthetic. Intravenous fentanyl is extensively used for anesthesia for surgeries it was developed into the transdermal patch to be used for moderate to severe pain management in the Mid 1990s ant there you have it. You do hear many bad stories about the patch but they are due to the many people using the patches in ways there not meant to be use from smoking them ya thats right rolling the plastic patch into a straw like tube and smoking it other people scrape the coatings off the patch mix it with something and shoot up with it. So there fools and anything used in ways its not intended is dangerous. So follow your doctors instructions and I can assure you they will help your pain. I am 100% pain free with the patches and no narcotic affect with them do to the slow continues release it remains at a steady amount in your system not like pills that have the high peaks after taking them that taper off till you take another... I hope this helps

Ya no doubt thats because you get 3 days worth all at once lol your using the name brand durogesic that still has the liquid Jell inside. Not a good Idea Perfect way to Over Dose especially if its someone new that is not use to taking opiates. I use 2x100mcg patches every 48 hours instead of every 72 hours only because i have troubles keeping them on for the 72hours without them falling off....

I am so sorry for your severe chronic pain. I have it too! I had a neck/head injury and also take 50mg of Fentanyl and like you it doesnt help all day. I was taking VIcodin for breakthrough pain but after 5 yrs it finally quit working. MY DR THEN CHANGED UP MY MED’S, I am now on an 8 hour pill (Oxycodine). It helps for most of the day. PLEASE LISTEN TO ME! I Have had CP for 7 yrs & study it! med’s alone are not able to manage pain: RESTING after a few hours of activity, sleeping renews the CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. And I also take muscle relaxers if I cant sleep from pain. BUT one must mix it up after a while. And use meditation, relaxation, visualization and even some level of ACCEPTANCE OF THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOME PAIN! I see a pain counselor too and it helps. I hope you feel better soon. Blessings, V. Allof these pain killers derive from herion.ive not done heroin, but I believe you...Without the cut heroin should be clean and not so harmful as amounts of the drug can be monitored as safe to use depending on tolerance, weight, etc. Some ppl would say you re crazy but I think that's the smartest thing , (fact ive heard in a long time) All BS aside you make a very rational, simple statement and possible solution to his Sandoz vs. mylan after the dr.is sympathetic toprescribe..
