Extremely Tired

Updated

I have started Lexapro about a week ago. I was naseous the first couple days but have noticed I am extremely tired everyday. I take the pill at night and currently only a half pill and will start taking a full pill next week. Will the tiredness eventually go away? I can't function like this everyday.

Hello, Nugget! How are you?

Yes, it should taper off, after about 4 to weeks, once your body adjusts to the medication, but it will most likely recur for awhile any time you raise the dosage.

You may also experience headache and dry mouth.

Is there anything else I can help with?

Hello, I am a 35 year old (who is in perimenopause) female who has suffered from OCD for most of her life. I used to take Prozac as a young adult, then switched to Dumyrox 300mg, and now after realizing that the Dumyrox has lost it's effect, my psychiatrist and I have decided to try Escitalopram (luvox). I started luvox about 8 weeks ago at 10 while slowly taking the dumyrox down. We went from luvox 10, 15, 20, and now 25 (which is necessary for my form of OCD) and at the same time I've slowly gone from 300 mg of Dumyrox to 100 mg. Here are my questions and concerns: Every time I increase the Luvox I get into a state (5 days or so) of complete exhaustion, then it goes away. However, when I started the 20mg I had the same effect, got better and then 10 days later went into a terrible phase (which I am still in) ; I feel absolutely exhausted, almost drugged out, I just want to sleep, my muscles hurt a bit, I feel completely lethargic and have no energy whatsoever to do anything. Can someone please tell me if this is normal- even after I have gotten "used to" the 20mg so to say. This came out of nowhere. I feel terrified and absolutely depressed as I can not function at all this way. No possibility to work, to go out, etc. I have been on Luvox all together for about 8 weeks BUT I am still taking Dumyrox- weening myself off slowly and I don't know if this has anything to do with it. Equally, I am on thyroid medication and will have my thyroid checked to see whether the medication is affecting that in any way. My question is can anyone tell me if this is normal- what I can expect- ANY info at all would be so gratefully received. I am truly at my wits end and am looking for any kind of info or help out there- even just a few words of encouragement. These last years have been hellish in concerns to health and just as I thought things were smoothing out….the roller coaster ride starts again. I send all of you strength and courage and patience and am eager to make some connections here- perhaps we can help each other. Thank you, Karolina
