Endometrial Biopsy Pain Reducing Meds

Updated

My Obgyn claimed the endometrial biopsy I'll receive will only be "slightly uncomfortable" and take motrin. 1 I cannot take NSAIDs at all. I have IBS and it'll only make my stomach hurt. That'll be an added issue as my anxiety levels are getting worse as this biopsy approaches. Doing in office I cannot be put under say she did during a D&C which I know someone had her biopsy performed during the D n C. The problems I'm having are identical to hers where my periods are still regular (come monthly) except I began bleeding so heavily that it became unbearable. First day I cannot even walk around. It's so heavy and clots included. This D&C In her case alone stopped her heavy bleeds and biopsy - felt nothing obviously being under.

She claims I won't need Anything as Its a short procedure once probe is inserted and suction (the biopsy materials are obtained) begins. Cramping worst of it. That's not what 4 people who had same procedure tell me. Said not only can they prescribe oral anxiety and pain Meds that do not contain NSAIDs, we as patients have a right to be put through as little stress and pain possible. She can technically so I hear give me several types of locals (one being both topical and internal lidocaine and saline solutions). Never mentioned. However I hear they even have discovered via studies better pain control but I do not know what they'd be. Help w info or anyone that was given pain reducing locals, blocks, meds- because the 4 people said I'm going to be not uncomfortable - it's going to hurt. And does my being anemic endanger her doing this in office setting? I'm terrible anemic. I'm an anxiety sufferer normally and now panicking but already canceled 3 x and know I need this done.

Would like to know what she can do with my notice I want a block (forget the medical term of this block) know though the lidocaine it enough !! Administered (see that's key as well. The percent. Read 4% in studies show a no event biopsy) but most doctors won't use more then 1-2% and me, I haven't been offered any pain reducing options whatsoever. :(

Need most current studies as I'm seeing lidocaine studies from 2007 etc. In 2012 please anyone woman or doctor that knows what can help me do this as it's well documented this Is absolutely a painful procedure and how dare they claim otherwise?

Thanks whoever sees this. Obgyn procedures - in my Case doing in office. Not at hospital. That would limit pain reducing options there alone. Meaning not having done in hospital setting. Heard the doctors rather not wait for these blocks and locals to begin working. They want you in and out today. That's for sure.

When is the procedure scheduled?

It is true, however, that most women experience just cramping after these types of procedures, but there is no way to apply that to everyone.

If you aren't happy with her not offering you any options, then have you considered seeing a different doctor?

To Kim who was planning to have an endometrial biopsy (and to other women considering the same thing): Yes, it is extremely painful, but the major problem is that the doctor may not tell you what really happens in the procedure. The HORRIFIC "doctor" I had would not tell me exactly what she was going to do beforehand, and I made the mistake of trusting her. After she stuck the stick in, I was greatly surprised to see her arm move back and forth at least 15 times doing very forceful scrapes. She had not admitted to me beforehand - despite my direct question - that she would take more than one sample. She made me think she would take only one. She also did not tell me that THIS PROCEDURE MAKES YOU NEARLY PASS OUT. Deliberate failure to inform is abuse. But our knowledge is our power. A D&C is far more thorough and far less abusive. The issue is money: The docs salaries are structured to reward the use of cheaper procedures such as endometrial biopsy, instead of D&C which requires multiple staff and anesthesia - or maybe our insurance won't cover D&C except after spontaneous abortion. I learned the hard way: ALWAYS INSIST that the doctor tell you EVERYTHING about HOW THE PROCEDURE IS PHYSICALLY DONE. Do not accept vague or avoidant statments such as, "We can see from this if you have a problem". Ask: "How many samples will you take, and how much pressure do you apply, and how long does it last?" No one will defend our bodies or our rights but ourselves. But do not feel overconfident -- even assertive women are still lied to. But I feel better if I at least try to get the truth. Medicine is a racket, but subjugation still beats serious injury or death.

I just had this procedure done yesterday and was only given NSAIDS. The pain was horrible. I actually screamed every time the scraping tool was inserted and began scraping. I wish I had read about the procedure and knew to ask for painmeds.

I had an endometrial biopsy done last week. It was very pàinful. Have a high pain tolerance and was screaming on the table. Came close to passing out. Could not walk out of the office under my own power but had to be wheeled out to a friend's car. I picked up my medical report and the gyn said I tolerated the procedure well (!?!) I went back the next day and asked why no pain meds (except OTC Tylenol and ibuprofen) are offered
The response was incredible. They are NOT Allowed to COMPETE WITH THE HOSPITAL and therefore cannot prescribe effective pain meds or adminster IV's. Don't have this done unless your GP writes you a serious pain killer perscription. Threaten to cancell the appt. Unless they comply. Maybe this only happens in the USA because of insurance companies and is a moot point in countries with universal health Care. Or demand a hospital procedure under anethesia. Mine was exceptionally painful because the gyn used a curette on addition to a pipette. The scraping of my uterus was akin to a D&C. I'm not through with this yet. This barbarism needs to stop ladies!

Re: Kaysera (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

I agree - this kind of treatment is inhumane! I had endo biopsy done this week and it was perfectly medieval. ONLY in women's healthcare would you ever see such a horribly painful treatment done while patient is unmedicated and awake.
