Encouragement Anyone?

Updated

I just started taking 50 mg Vyvanse and you guys are scaring the crap out of me! Seriously! Only physical "symptom" I've noticed is lack of appetite, but that's a good thing as I am diabetic and obese. Not sure how I feel mentally--a bit more focused and calm perhaps. Just don't know what I'm supposed to feel. I'm 65 with diabetes, high blood pressure (controlled), sleep apnea, and depression. Are the issues you're talking about what I have to look forward to? And why don't some of you call your doctors with your questions? Am I just too "old" to "get it"? Any encouraging words out there, instead of discouraging? Thanks

If you aren't experiencing the stuff that others have mentioned, then you really shouldn't worry about it. Medications can affect everyone differently and what works well for you may cause me many adverse effects and vice-versa.

Learn more Vyvanse details here.

And of the posts you read online, you have to understand that most people were experiencing a problem and that's why they've hunted up a website like this, the greater amount of people are taking it and not having any issues, so they aren't posting on sites like this to seek information.

You'll see the same thing on technology sites, if you read the posts on them, you'd think everyone is having problems with their iPhone and that it has to be one of the worst phones on the market, when the truth is actually the complete opposite, it's just that the millions of people that are happy using their iPhones have no reason to be posting and hunting information.

And the reason that most people don't go to their doctors with their questions is because many doctors don't have the answer they are seeking.

Doctors aren't trained in all the specific details of medications, such as the side effects, so they often aren't sure, either. To get that type of information you have to look to a pharmacist, pharmacy tech, or a site like this one and those of us that frequent them.

Are you keeping an eye on your blood pressure while taking it?

ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT MY LIFE WAS GREAT AT THE BEGINNING WHEN I STARTED TAKING THE MEDS, THEN IT ALL CRASHED AND I WAS ADDICTED AND DIDN'T REALLY KNOW WHY MY LIFE WAS GOING SO BAD. PLEASE B VERY CAREFUL WITH THIS MEDS, READ THE SIDE EFFECTS AND IF YOU START EXPERIENCING ANY , CALL YOUR DOCTOR, BECAUSE THIS MEDICATION IS ADDICTIVE AND THE LAST THING YOU'LL THINK IS TO GET OFF THE MEDS, TRUST ME I'VE BEEN THERE, DID IT FOR 2 YEARS, YOU FEEL HIGH AND EXITED ALL THE TIME AND FULL OF ENERGY, BUT IS NOT GOOD ENERGY. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU.

I am truly sorry. This is the kind of stuff that worries me and I have read the brochure (several times), so I have a double whammy of OMG! I have not experienced the excitement, energy, or euphoria so many have spoken of, just calm and focus. So, I just don't know what's ahead. Doc checks me every month. That's a good thing, right? I'm just being cautious at this point. I don't need any other health issues. Are you off Vyvanse totally now? How are you doing? Hope all is well and your future looks positive. Thanks for your reply.

Hi Vernon,
Im the mom of a previous Vyvanse user. One thing he complained about was being sleepy after taking the medicine. So he started to take it at night. Emotionally in the beginning he was sensative and would cry at the smallest things that hurt his feelings. This was after a week or so on ADD medicines. He did lose his appetite and stayed thin while on the meds. Once off he gained alot. He was able to start and finish projects something as simple as reading a book or coloring a picture. He is 14 now. Things are different because your a grown man. Maybe you do crossword puzzles but never finish, but with meds you are able to do it as an example. His hands did shake some on the medicine and they still do. Im not sure if it was because of the medicine or if it a neuro issue, we are still dealing with his medical stuff. After he was more leveled out and in his system emotionally he was fine and he was able to be himself sort of speak, it was like his personality came out and he shined. He did very well on the meds when he was young and his qualitiy of life dramatically changed for the better. He was more social, happy and better adjusted once he was leveled out. The down part was that after a while he did have to have higher doses and eventually change to different brands because it would no longer be effective. So be open to adjustment of the medicine you may need more or less or a different brand. Vyvanse also offers a coupon card to help pay for it. Check their website and sign up for the program to help you with the cost. I know its very expensive with out insurance. Anyhow that is a bit about our experience with ADD meds. Hope you do well with it.

If you take it like directed, how do you know you're addicted? I'm confused.

Addiction is physical and mental. I have been addicted to pain pills for 5 years straight, I went to a clinic for 2 years to help get off. And now I just take the ADHD medicine I was meant to take. If you stop taking a medicine and have physical symptoms such as, Feeling sick, dizzy, weak, anything that just makes you feel like the day is really hard to get though, that's physical withdrawl. Mental withdrawl, is once the physical part is over, but you still crave the drug. You come up with reasons to have to take the drug, although you don't really need it. You tell yourself, "I'm a better person when I take this." When the truth is you're fine without it. Or you run out to fast because you're taking to much. (More than directed) because you believe you know better, and even though the bottle says one thing, well, taking a little extra today wont hurt anything. WELL IT DOES! that leads to taking more and more to get the same effect. So be careful. Take as recommended, and think seriously before taking your dose higher. Your doctor does know best. Took me years to undrstand that. Hope this helps anyone that might want to know from a addict who knows. (Oh and people with ADD and ADHD are addictive personality types and need to be on the right meds or they can easily abuse other drugs to try and calm their brain) as I was told by multiple docotors.

My fienicee has a few addictions: alcohol, meth, porn
I'm more concerned due to he has mental illnesses and those two at least have gotten him into trouble. He doesn't understand most things an his health is going cuz of all of it. Meds, his habits. What can I do for him now and when he comes home to keep him clean
