Ear Disaster

Updated

I got my ears pierced 3 months ago with medical grade plastic system due to metal allergies then my left ear began to get irritated, bleed, pus and lost of pain & very dark on back side of ear. I got antibiotics but then my entire ear began to burn, itch and pain to touch & I couldn't touch or move my earlobe without it seeming to activate this weird filling of fullness inside my ear canal. My entire ear and lope was extremely swollen & two doc's confirmed major swelling on the inside of my ear. I used antibiotic ear drops but not much help. I am thinking the antibiotics helped with the possible earlobe infection cause that is tremendously better with the exception of just not being able to move it much for fear of the inner part of the canal getting that weird feeling. There is burning sensation and it's mostly in the left ear but sometimes you can feel that burning and fullness transferring slightly over to the right ear, then it subsides. I am also taking prednisone pills 20 Mg, 2 pills twice/day for 1st 5 days and 1 pill/day for 5 days. I see where the external swelling has been reduced but my face is still slightly swollen. I have all the symptoms of swimmers ear but I am not a swimmer. I have sinus problems, allergies & asthma & I suffer with many bouts of iritis. The inner ear doesn't really hurt but feels like something is crawling out, burning and very filled with air. Throat hurts too. I am so confused??

Hello, Pearlena! How are you feeling? I'm sorry about the problems you're experiencing.

Regarding swimmers ear, you don't actually have to be a swimmer to get it, it's just called that, because it frequently happens to swimmers, due to water and bacteria getting in the ear. However, anyone can get it, if they get water in their ear, even from just bathing or showering.

It sounds like you may need another course of antibiotics, since you said you still have swelling. Have you returned to your doctor to have it checked out, again?

The FDA lists the typical side effects of the Prednisone as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, acne, irritability and fluid retention. It can also cause some pounding in the ears, so it may be slightly contributing to the problem.

Are you on any other medications? There a many that could also contribute to such issues.

For this kind of infection just take about 1/8 tsp of pure element 16 Sulfur, a natural antibacterial.. Taken orally 1 time / day for a few days should reduce the problem..works like antibiotics but better and no negative side effects!

IF antibiotics are inefective it could be that the infectious agent is not bacterial, but fungal. Also, if you are taking Prednisone, it will weaken the immune system and make one more suseptable to fungal infections. Try using H202 3% 5-10 dops in the ear with head fllat on its side. Let it bubble and it will feel warm. Sit for a few minutes. Then rotate head and do other ear. Repeat 6-8 times per day. Do not use alcohol. You can flush your sinuses this way as well, but dilute the H202 with 50% warm salted water. Also, oregano oil on a q-tip can work on both fungus and bacteria.

Thanks so much for the responses. My inner ear feels better & most of the swelling has gone down however the symptoms are still slightly there. I can feel the fullness still in the left ear but no where as bad as before. I am wearing earrings with plastic post from the piercing & it seems fine but I can tell that the left ear & earlobe still isn't 100%. I did finish all meds but it took a couple of weeks to truly feel a difference. I am going to follow up with my doctor & let you know. I may try a ear nose and throat doc too because it may be the Eustachian tub. Who know but it's not like it was however I will not be satisfied until I know exactly what the problem is in order to be able to fix it. Thanks again & I will follow-up.
