Est Estrgn Methtest .625/1.25 Mg

Updated

I am a 42 yr old woman and had a complete hysterectomy in October 2008. Within 1 year of my surgery, I began experiencing extreme hair loss. This November, my doctor prescribed EST ESTRN METHTEST .625/1.25 mg (in addition to the ESTRADIOL .5mg that I was already taking) to help reduce the hair loss. I was wondering if this medication is used for this purpose (as well as it's other benefits)? My mother is a breast cancer survivor (2009) & I am concerned about increasing my chances, by taking all these medications. Is it safe, or should I just accept my balding?

This medication is a combination of Esterified Estrogens and Methyltestosterone, they are used for hormone replacement, to help with the symptoms of menopause or a deficiency in these hormones.

Thus, yes, if the hair loss if caused by a lack in these hormones, they may help with it.

As with any medication, there are always some risks involved, but rather than breast cancer, this combination usually increases the risks of endometrial and ovarian cancers. You should really discuss the risks with your doctor, so you can properly evaluate them against the benefits of the medication and decide if it's right for you.

I am also concerned about weight gain with this drug. I have no sex drive and hoping this will help me also. Wondering the same how long it will take to notice a change. I have had a hysterectomy and concerned about the cancer aspect too.

I have been on this medication for a few years. The possibility of uterine or ovarian cancer isn't a real concern because I had a complete and total hysterectomy about 20 years ago. After that I gained weight, was tired and had no libido, among other more minor problems. This medication has changed my life. Now I have a pretty normal amount of energy, my libido returned and I was able to lose weight, although not as much as I would like . . . yet. Whether the weight loss is due to the medication or the fact that I am less tired and a little more active, I don't know. But I am a different person with it. I still use Estrace Cream for vaginal dryness which, together with the "Estratest" has me just at the right place.

Addendum to my previous note:
I have found that different generics in this medication don't work alike, or necessarily like the name brand, Estratest did. I have also read a fair amount of feedback lamenting the fact that the original product is no longer made. I don't know what maker's generic "Estratest" I'm using now, but it seems to be ok. Some, though had little, if any effect, at least for me. I assume it's the difference in the inactive ingredients and how my body processes that particular manufacturer's cocktail of ingredients.

I have been on this for 2 months and within the last 3 weeks my legs are hurting all the time. Could this be caused from this medicine? Some mornings my legs hurt so bad i don't want to get up because it hurts to stand.

I've had the same problem. There was a complete difference between the name brand and the generics. Now it's hit and miss. Some generics seem "ok" and some are not. I don't care what anyone says who tries to convince you to move to generics. They are not all the same!

I have been on this medication for a few years now with no problems. I just tried to refil my prescription and the pharmacy tells me that it is a controlled substance. This seems a bit ridiculous to me, when did this happen and why?

I use this medication as well and it has changed my life. Its terrific. I had my uterus removed in my early 20's. Im now 43. Dr says their no way that my ovaries are still working properly. I was having a lot of bad symptoms. She said it all sounded like a need for hormones. She put me on this drug and in a short time I noticed a slight difference and in like 3 weeks I noticed a major difference. I feel like Im 20 again and have no more vaginal dryness, mood swings, hot flashes, lack of libido, memory fog, hair loss, etc.....Its worth the risks involved with taking it because for now Im living. It has greatly improved my life and made it much more enjoyable.

I have always had a great experience with this until May of this year 2014. I am getting night and day sweats and it seems like the med just quit working. Doc upped it to 125 and Im still getting bad sweats. I am very concerned as this never happened before and I do not feel right.. she even put me on effexor also to help with the anxiety. Hoping I will level back out or wondering if it could be something else..

I called the dr today and told him it's not working so now he has me on estratest and I am PRAYING it works !!! I have no libido, hair falling out, brain / memory fog and any other symptom you can imagine !!! I'm going crazy I can take this feeling any more , I have a husband and 2 kids !!! I feel like the worst mom and wife ever. Sorry for that but had to get it off my chest !!! I guess I am just wondering what you all think about this new med ? Should it help me ? How long before it starts working?

Well this is the weakest form of hormones that u can be on that will still benefit u. So I would assume its the safest as well. Does your dr that prescribed it know about your mom and breast cancer history? I would make sure my dr know about it. Stay current on yearly mammograms.personally theirs no way I would do without my hormone after my hysterectomy.I just feel too bad without it and the symptoms are really bad.

Not a fan of meds myself had a total Hysterectomy and within 2 months I lost so much hair that I was loosing my mind, not to mention depression and lack of focus. My Dr without hesitation and (bedside manners) prescribed it to me Est. ESTRGN 1.25/2.5. At first I did not take it feelings and concerns about cancers. But,finally a friend told me you have to accept a little help for what your body isn't able to do for it self anymore. I listen and now my hair is better than ever before. No more night sweats and sleepless nights. The sunshines, flowers smell good, and my husband makes me laugh again.

Just thought I would let you know after my complete hysterctomy at 45 they gave me estrogen 1.25. I am now 69 and my doctor told me I would have to take the rest of my life. I went off it due to my doctor retired and went to 3 doctors and they refuse to refill. I went thru complete Hell. my skin started to thin and wrinkle, intercourse was unbearable, my hair fell out. So I finally found a compassionate doctor to prescribe me some and within a week I was back to being happy. I could sleep, no hot flashes and had plenty of natural lubrication and my libido is Unbelievable for my age. I realize this is not for everyone but even with the side effects that can occur I don't ever want to go thru that again. Hope this helps.

I didn't have a hysterectomy but I had an ovary & large cyst removed. They thought the remaining ovary would kick in for the lost one, but it did not. After the surgery, I only had my period twice (on emotional events: the day I went to say goodbye to my father before he passed away & a couple weeks later on the day he passed). It's been almost a year since then. I had been experiencing hot flashes and zero libido long before my surgery because my ovaries were failing. After surgery, it didn't get better and I was having HORRIBLE mood swings...psycho mood swings...crying hysterically one moment and screaming at the top of my lungs the next. The doctor wanted to wait 6 months before putting me on any medications (SIX MONTHS!) because I had been a severe migraine sufferer and he wanted to see how my body adjusted (my migraines are 80% better - thank goodness! I'd been suffering weekly, sometimes daily, for the past 25 years.) The doctor finally put me on an estrogen gel which helped with the hot flashes and a little with the moods. I finally asked for something to improve my libido because it had been a LONG time and I had NO interest, which I'm sure my husband didn't appreciate. This is when he switched me to this saying the added hormones should help. It took a few weeks but it kicked in strongly to start. I was revved up and sort of scared my husband after so long..lol. It leveled out but I started getting daily headaches (verge of migraines). After giving it 2-3 months to settle in and for me to make sure it was the medication and not something else (I also did a cleanse within this time period), I asked the doctor to take me off it. As soon as I stopped taking it, my headaches went away. I have also gained weight (approx 20 lbs over the past 2 years) and have been trouble getting it off, but I'm not sure what is the cause of if it's a combination of things because my body is changing (I'm almost 47). I've been off it about 6 weeks now and, now that the holidays have passed, I'm going to see if I have any better luck getting the weight off. I also found that the different generic brands made me feel different, like some have stated. I actually think that there was one that did not give me headaches, but overall, I decided the pros didn't outweigh the cons. Fortunately, I still have a bit of labido in gear and I am now trying a combination of natural supplements which I hope work but fear won't quite do the trick. I figure it's worth a shot though, so here's hoping & praying! Good luck to you all.

I have been taking this drug for six years. It has prevented the symptoms of bone loss, GI disorders, sleep loss, muscle loss and weight gain you get when your body has too much estrogen.

My doctor retired and went to 3 different doctors and they would not fill my Premarin .625, my original doctor told me I would have to take it the rest of my life. I felt wonderful for 25 years on it. well the last doctor I told him I can't go thru withdrawals and I thought I was going to go crazy, hair fell out, skin got real thin, age spots, and no libido at all. the doctors don't care, they just say no and I literally beg them. so I told the last one if I can't get it here I was going to fill prescriptions from Canada. He gave me .03 which was not enough so I mail order mine and I am back to my old self again. I feel so good and my libido has been Unbelievable just like before so I will continue to take it. my skin looks great no more wrinkles and my skin got thicker. I'm 69 years old and I refuse to spend my last years miserable. I'm not afraid of the side effects. all medicines have more side effects than premarin and I could die from some of those but the doctors don't care. Not to be mean but I can't wait till their wives go thru it. I bet they will give it to them. my fiancé was going to leave me because of the problems I had. I do believe a lot of marriages break up because of doctors who don't have a clue what it's like. I wish they could go thru it for a year and I'm sure they might have more compassion. this my story and it might not be for you but I do feel for all women whose doctors won't help them.
