Dying From Pain!

Updated

How can it be that I am repeatedly refused medication from all the pharmacies when I go in with my prescription from the doctor I have been seeing for three years? I am at the end of my rope, I had a fusion and was told I was fine but pain never went away! Finally when I could get no one to listen I started going to ER! It was finally determined that my fusion had failed and the screws were broken in my neck! After many attempts to try and get someone to remove the screws, I learned it could leave me a quadriplegic! I have lived like this for some time now and have other issues with my lower back now as well, I am assuming from steroids that I took for an autoimmune. I had hoped a surgeon would be able to give e some relief by doing some surgery on my lower back based on my MRI ... but he tells me it is too dangerous for me based on my history and now I can't get my prescriptions filled and no one seems to care except me! I am 57 and when I have medication I can at least get though my day without wanting to die! I now have had no medication for 3 days only a prescription which I can not fill nor can I even try to fill it now as I am so sick! Don't they realize that people do die of pain ..... they just call it by a different name, they refer to it as suicide!

Hello, Pat! How are you doing? I'm very sorry that you're having such a problem.

What reason have they given for not filling them? What medications have been prescribed for you?

We are now into the time of year when shortages of controlled substances usually occur, due to mandatory manufacturing limits. Once a manufacturer reaches their yearly allotted limits, they cannot manufacture any new product, until after the new year.

This is simply inexcusable ... They do not do this to heart patients who need heart medications or diabetics who need insulin! I have an implanted morphine pump which has a dead battery for the last 4 or 5 months so I am now dependent on oral medications to ease my pain! Without it my pain is not tolerable! I was taking oxycodone which I have been having so much trouble getting that finally I switched to a low dose morphine in hopes of getting something! I no sooner had gotten the morphine for break though when I could not get my 100 mic fentanyl patch! I had been filling at the same CVS and although they had it, they told me and my insurance company who contacted them after I called medicare ... that they would not fill my prescription because my pain management doctor was not in the same county in which I live! His office is 40 miles from my home! I was referred to this doctor by my insurance company who did not have one for me in network so they did what was necessary for me to continue seeing the same doctor that I had been seeing before I got the new insurance! My insurance company even arranges for transportation for me to my doctors appointments! Mind you the previous insurance company set me up with this doctor when they had no one in network that could help me and arranged for this doctor to see me! I have been seeing him for at-least 3 years! He is a great doctor; an anesthesiologist with privileges at a couple of hospitals! If you are not in Florida you have no idea what is happening here! I went to ER not once but twice in the 9 days I could not get my patches and on my second visit got little more than scolded ... as sick as I was, I was given a shot of toradol! I believe if I were an addict I would have gotten help faster than the 8 days that it took me to finally get my patches and it would not have cost me my primary care doctor who finally took the prescription that the pain specialist had given me and re-wrote since he is in the same county that i live in .... then he fired me as a patient telling me that he was afraid of the DEA; afraid for his practice and his family! This is the same doctor who promised to take good care of me! I am at the end of my rope! Like everyone, I need good medical care and need it consistently! Am I asking too much? I feel as though many people know that I am being forced to suffer which to me is like torture! I lost 8 lbs in those 8 days! I can not continue to suffer in this manner! What will happen to me next month, I do not know! I do know that I will need my patches again on December 30th! I can not go without them again ... so if you have any suggestions .. let me know! Remember, this is not about the type of pain medication I am on, they do not seem to want to fill anything that is very strong ... anywhere!
