Updated

My pharmacy is telling me this has been discontinued and I am desparate to find some as it is the only thing that works on my migraines!

I'm sorry, but it appears that it is no longer available, at all. We have had several people asking about it and I can't find any company that lists it as being available.

What other medications have you tried?

Have you consulted your doctor about the issue?

My doctor was unable to recommend an alternative to the Midrin/Epidrin (isometh/dichlor/apap) combination. It is the vaso-dilatation effect of that drug combo that is what seems to help the migraines brought on by changes in barometric pressure. I am going to try low dose Imitrex as an alternative, which is available both as a pill or a nasal spray, but would prefer to not use his more potent class as you are limited to the number of doses you can take and you can get rebound headaches from them. I would still like to find a substitute for the vasodilator. What do you think of DMAA? Is it available as an Rx?

Hi Lori..Imetrex is the one drug that literally saved me from being bedridden for a week out of each month..I am no doctor, but I have never had any rebound headaches from imetrex...I have been taking this medication since 1998 and I have never had to take a second dose. If you have never taken it, give it a chance..Since it is quite expensive my doctor gives me samples whenever he can, and I have tried the tabletsm the nasel spray and the injection. I like the tablets the best, The nasel spray works faster but doesn't last as long, and the injection makes my heart beat fast..I did try Midrin and it didn't even touch my migraine, but my doctor told me it works good for a lot of people, so I don't know why they discontiued it.. Also, if you really feel you need to take the Midren, talk to your doctor about a few LEGAL online pharmacies in Great Briton. and France and possibly a few more. My doctor used to write me a prescription for a medication that cost too much for me here, and in London it was $5.00 for 60 capsules..I wish I could remember the name, but if I do I will post it here, they are great because they are legal, and you do need your prescrition faxed by your doctor and they are a lot less than the prices here..Good luck!!

I just got that exact mix today June 15 2011. You need to find a real compounding pharmacy. Probably a mom and POP. That's where I got mine. Good luck um glad to hear it works for so many hope it works for me I'm tired of trying meds that knock me out or treximet that gave me two huge blisters in my mouth.

Today I was able to get 50 capsules that were still on the shelf of the generic Epidrin. Call all pharmacies in your area and you may still find them. Tomorrow I will call a few more and hopefully I can stock pile enough until they are approved by the FDA to produce again.

I was just prescribed this medication for my migraines and picked it up from my pharmacy in Houston today. They just needed a few more hours than usual to have it ready. Why is everyone saying it's discontinued?

Isometh was the only thing that worked for my daughter. When it was discontinued. She suffered along till I found another neurologist who prescribed Canbia- it's a powder that tastes like licorice that's dissolved in water. It's the only other think that's worked . Maybe it will help you too.

This drug is available again. It is under the name Isometh/Dich/Apap and will replace Midrin and is being made by Macoven Pharmacy out of Texas. I picked up my new RX this week and it seems to have worked on easing the Cluster headache I awoke with this morning. You will need a new RX to get this drug -- BUT it IS now available again. (Got mine through Rite Aid.) Good luck!

This medication was not being made by any company for over a year. Those of us who rely on it as a preventative were in dire straits. FINALLY a company in Texas decided to make it again. Not sure how long this will last, as the reason no one else made it last year is because the FDA never fully approved it for this use, and no company was willing to pay the $$ and run the test groups, etc. But it's back -- for now.

I was written an RX for Midrin this last week, and told by my neurologist that only Walgreens and Wal Mart will carry the drug. Sure enough, I was able to fill the script at my local Wal Mart.

Hi on what site did you find the coupon? I've suffered for 3 days now and Kroger wants to charge me 96.00 for this RX

I was using migrex-another brand for midrin available overseas. Today i asked my doctor about it and after searching we found the formulary and she prescribed it. I went to walgreens pharmacy and luckily they had it for another patient who did not buy because of the price and insurance was not covering it. I was asked to pay $96 for 15 pills. However I found a coupon with a google search and using that coupon it came down to around $35. Pharmacist told me that if they didn't have it they'd order it to be compounded.

If you're prescribed 120, keep getting it! I still have some of the original Midrin - I just found it. The bottle indicated I had five refills left. (Grrr!) people who took Midrin before they took it off the market, know exactly what I'm talking about.

You should only take it when you have a migraine, or tension headache. If you still have a headache and the instructions say you can repeat after 4 hours, go ahead. Don't take anymore after the headache subsides.

I was just put on this drug last Thursday and got it filled Monday. I need to know is it common for a doctor to prescribed 120 tabets take every 4 hours as needed. Or is it a 3month supply

I, too, had taken Midrin for about 10 years. The company stopped making it. My neuro doctor gave me Imitrex and drugs of that nature. I got no relief from them. Through during research on Midrin, I found that only 1 company still makes it. It is usually sold at a compounding pharmacy not stores like Walgreens, Walmart or Kroger's or chain drug stores. I have using Midrin again for the past 2 years. Major relief from Midrin. My migraines sometimes are so severe that I have had to the ER.
