Oxycontin And Oxycodone Urine Drug Test (Page 5)
(Newest replies first)

When taking a urine drug test, does oxycontin and oxycodone come up as the same drug? I took a 40mg oxycontin on a monday and was drug tested on thurs. I am tested once a month from my pain mangement dr. to make sure my oxycodone's are in my system. So will the 2 drugs show up as one or is there a differance in them with the drug test?

Here's the deal FreezePop. I also have a BA in psychology, a masters' degree and a PhD in the mental health field, all from top schools, as does my husband (only, believe it or not, he has three masters' degrees.) So please don't think you're going to intimidate me or convince me how smart you are by claiming your supposed degrees in arithmetic naturally make you smarter than me. Not too bright? Have you seen my transcripts? Have you spoken with the person who oversees my work? Of course not. And my daughter is a CPA with a major company where she is vice-president of finance. Does that make her an expert on drugs and mental health? Of course not, because not all education makes one an expert on all topics.

My husband is a therapist. He regularly sees people in the same situation this woman is in--a spouse who is struggling with drugs, making a heavy negative impact not only on the spouse but on any children involved and on the extended family. She may be in denial but she is still suffering. People in that type of situation deserve compassion, not condemnation.

Your final statement regarding "winning" was extremely revelatory. This is not about winning; it's about sharing ideas and information. Just because someone disagrees with you does not make them stupid. Your inflated ego is showing.

Lulu, I'm sorry I said you couldn't read. I should have probably been a little more clear when dealing with someone that is not very bright. I should have said "if you can comprehend" rather than "if you knew how to read" because you obviously can't comprehend what you read because it was very clear what my post said but you still somehow screwed it up.

Also, you keep saying I should show some compassion for that woman for what she's going through. What is she going through? I couldn't find her post so i could read it again but all i remember her talking about is her DJ husband failing a drug test for cocaine because she claims someone slipped it in his drink while he was spinning some records. That doesn't sound like anything to feel sorry for someone for or even show compassion to her.

I don't think you should be telling me what i should or shouldn't be doing. I'm pretty sure I have a lot more education than you do. I have 2 bachelor's degrees, 2 master's degrees, and I'm a CPA so you can go try to act smart somewhere else because i know better and I'm not believing your lies.

As for the "false positive" crap you keep talking about, that's all it is, crap. It's crap because it isn't true. Do you have any evidence to back up your claim? The burden of proof is on you because you're the one claiming something that has no scientific evidence to support your claim. I know that it won't cause a drug test to show positive. How i know this is because i used that excuse many many years ago for a failed test and a lot of very smart people with a lot of education and years in their respective fields were asked. Several different drug test labs, pharmacists, doctors, chemist, drug manufacturers, and other people that my lawyer could find that would have knowledge of this and they all said that this wasn't true and is just a myth and it has no scientific research or evidence to support that claim. If you Google the Amoxicillin false positive myth, what you'll find is several sites like this one with people like you making this baseless claim. You can't believe everything you read on the internet. I guess we both agree you know how to read but it still hasn't been determined that you can understand what you read. Maybe you should read that link that i pasted above and you can attempt to read and understand what it says. I'm sure there's going to be some words that might be hard for you to understand but just give it your best shot little buddy. Just sound out the words and raise your hand and ask questions if you don't understand anything.

You need to realize that you'll never win an argument with me because the smarter person will always win when it's about something that requires intelligence and really just about anything. You need to just concede defeat and move on to someone that you're smarter than so you'll have a chance to win because you won't against me. FreezePoP wins yet again.

OMG. That is just unbelievable because it really is unbelievable. The Amoxicillin false positive is exactly just that, false. I've taken Amoxicillin several times before a drug test and i have never failed. The only times I have failed for cocaine is when i actually used cocaine. I tried that Amoxicillin false positive excuse before and it didn't work because the drug test lab researched it and talked to several doctors, pharmacists, chemist, and other people that have knowledge about drugs and their interactions with the body and they all said that it will not give a false positive. Plus, a doctor is not going to say "it is about 2 lines worth". A doctor is not going to measure the amount of a drug in one's system by measurements of a way an illegal drug is taken. Either you are making this up or your friend did and you are ignorant for believing him/her.

I find it hard to believe that you tried methamphetamine for your "first time" ever before you flunked your drug test. First, you mentioned how much you did in weight rather than lines, hits, puffs, of however methamphetamine heads use it. I've never done that trash mess so I'm only speaking on what I've seen on shows of heard about from users on shows. I don't associate with people that use it either because usually people who use that trash are trash. Secondly, you said you did it for 3 days. For someone doing a drug for their first time as you claim, 3 days seems like a long time to be up doing a drug for your first time ever being on it. I don't know why you have to lie on the internet. Nobody knows who you are so just tell the truth. You can be anyone you want over the internet and say whatever you want and nobody will ever know who it really is so why not tell the truth? Put down the methamphetamine and you won't have anything to worry about.

Dear Freeze PoP: First, there you go again with the personal insults to someone you've never met. "If you know how to read?" If I couldn't read, I'd never have read what you said! And one doesn't get through college and graduate school without being able to read. Then there's your comment stating that, "You're the one who probably has a problem with it"--a second personal insult, again directed at someone you've never met and about whom you know nothing. There are more reasons to educate one's self about cocaine besides being a user. As a therapist, it's vital to be informed about this.

Secondly, there would be no reason EVER for me to use "that false positive" excuse since I have never used cocaine or any other illegal/street drug in my life, don't intend to and I've never been subjected to drug testing. I have, however, done some extensive reading (from reputable resources, not simply anecdotal statements from FORMER users) in order to knowledgeably respond to the questions of others as to what can create false positives for cocaine. As with many things, more is constantly being learned about this subject. If you haven't used cocaine in "several years", good for you! However, it may not have been known when you were using it what situations could cause a false positive. In any case, if my experience with other medical issues is any indication, many doctors act like experts on topics of which they actually have very little knowledge. Doctor's fly by the seat of their pants, too!

Thirdly, and perhaps most unbelievable, is the fact that you minimize the pain and suffering this woman is going through. The final sentence of your 1/29/15, 6:16 pm contribution is extremely revelatory. You don't think what she has discovered about her husband would be extremely traumatic and emotionally painful? That it's no big deal? I think it would be a pretty safe assumption that she is in emotionally AGONY and suffering tremendous mental distress. She needs to be shown compassion, not belittled, as in the last two sentences of your 1/27/15 posting. Even coming from a stranger, this would be painful. Why add to someone's pain when you can just as easily, as I said before, BE KIND and encouraging! Using courtesy, rather than insults, would make her (and perhaps you) feel better!:-)

I never said i was a drug addict or even implied i was. If you know how to read, you will see that it was past tense and not present. I haven't touched that junk in several years so don't call me a drug addict. You're the one who probably has a problem because you're currently searching websites for it. What problems is she dealing with other than her coke head dj husband flunking drug test and losing his pain meds?

You're reading too much junk on the internet. That's not correct, i know. I was in drug court for a long time for some crazy stuff i did when I was in college and i failed many drug test for cocaine. I used those excuses and went to a dr trying to get a note saying that and he said that's not right. More than 1 dr said that so don't say doesn't know what he's talking about. Cocaine is the only drug i know of that you can't flush out of your system too. Only thing that will make you fail a test for cocaine, is cocaine. Try it if you want and use that false positive excuse and you'll get busted. I've even taken a drug test after using the stuff they say will cause a false positive and i passed.

To: FreezePoP - There are actually several reasons why one might show a false positive for cocaine. Certain antibiotics (amoxycillin is one) and tonic water can both produce a false positive for cocaine use. There are a number of reliable websites (not just amateur speculation) that discuss this very problem. While the situation under discussion certainly sounds a little suspicious as far as excuses, it still is not true that only cocaine use can produce a positive result when testing for cocaine use. And why be so unkind to a woman who is obviously going through a difficult time? If her husband is behaving as you suggest, she's going through enough grief without being giving more by a total stranger who calls her "stupid" and implies that she's nothing more than a sucker. And if the situation is as you claim (although you really have no way of knowing for sure), she is undoubtedly fearful and anxious enough about this without you degrading her. You indicate that you're a drug addict. Perhaps it would be best for you to just deal with your own problems rather than adding to the pain of others. BE KIND!

The only drug that will show up as cocaine, is cocaine. He either took some powder or crack so his doctor had every right to treat him this way. What kind of i**** does cocaine a couple of days before his drug test? I've done more cocaine than most people have ever done or seen and flunked many drug tests for it so i know about cocaine and drug testing. There's nothing out there that will give him a false positive. If it was in his system, he did it. As for your claim someone put it in his "soda", that's just stupid. Nobody is going to waste their cocaine on someone's soda. Sounds like your husband is out partying while you're at home listening to his stories about getting drugged. I need to find a girl like you so i can do whatever i want and come home with some bs excuse.

HI, REDGRACE! In regard to getting just a one month prescription from your doc for the Oxycontin--when taking Oxycontin, you need a new WRITTEN prescription every month from your doctor. The doctor cannot put refills on it nor can it be phoned in; again, it must be written each month. As for the results of your test, it's perfectly OK to call your doctor's office to ask for them. You could also make an appointment to discuss the results if it's financially feasible for you. If your medication isn't showing up on your drug test, it makes the doctor wonder if you're selling it. The even bigger problem, of course, is that your husband is "stealing" medication for HIS pain even though he knows you need it for YOUR pain. I'm not "condemning" him--I know what it's like to be desperately trying to live and work every day with pain that isn't well-controlled--but this is still not the way to deal with it. It sounds like he may need to find a new doctor. The doctor's suggestion that your husband should just find a new job (as though that's easy and no big deal) shows insensitivity and ignorance. What his doctor SHOULD be doing is addressing the issue of adequately treating your husband's pain so he can do his current job, which the doctor is apparently not doing. That's negligence on the doc's part. With regard to the fact that your husband is stealing your pain medication--I assume he realizes that his theft of your medication is causing problems for you with your own doctor and perhaps with the drug testing being done on you, plus presumably leaving you in pain. Yet he continues to steal your meds. Again, I'm not condemning him; we'll just assume that the degree of pain he's experiencing pushes him to do this. I would suggest that you purchase a small safe with a combination lock (not a key) and keep ALL your medication in it. Don't leave even one pill somewhere else--in your purse, a pocket, a cabinet or whatever. I had this same issue with a friend who I realized was periodically "sneaking" pain meds from me in small amounts when she visited; I ended up using a safe like this in which to keep my pills. You have to be absolutely strict about keeping your meds locked up; open the safe, take out the pill(s) you need and lock the safe again before you even take the pill. (In other words, don't forget to lock it!) Then immediately take whatever medication you took from the safe. This plan would make it impossible to allow any pills to be taken from your supply. If you follow this plan, no excuses, it will be impossible for your husband to get any of your meds. If he can break into a locked combination safe, he's a better safecracker than many professional bank robbers!:-) All the best to both of you!

What if you came clean on your drug screen for everything but supposed to show positive for oxycontin er? The doctor sent urine to a lab, will the lab just test for my prescription in question? Or do they test the sample for everything all over again at a higher rate? Asking because I made a stupid mistake and tried methamphetamine for the first time ever and did less that .5 over a 3 day course (3 days butwasnt continuously used, still ate, drank fluids, slept, etc) My UA at doctors came up clean (it had been almost 7days since use) and showed my other prescriptions but not my 20mg oxycontin BC I had run out early do to spousal theft. I didn't want to tell doctor BC my husband is on pain mng program too and just has no self control and runs out and then takes mine without asking(I've tried hiding and locking up and somehow he always finds it or gets ahold of my keys when asleep) but again doctor sent urine to lab BC it showed negative. Its been 2 weeks and haven't heard anything but he didn't give me full months of scripts just one month until results came back. Am I to assume something is wrong since they haven't called me? Or maybe they're waiting til end of month to UA again to see if I am negative again? I dunno. Any advice would be helpful, especially from anyone who has experienced similar and didn't get the boot from doctor. Any advice about the spousal issue to, nice realistic comments only please. He isn't addict, doctor just won't change his medicine and he works 60+ hours a week with his hands(5prior surgeries/can't find another job that pays same so he deals with pain/doc said find another job/don't k ow what to do really at any front geese!)

Just teasing, John--that's why I put a smile at the end of my comment!:-) I take Oxycontin daily for severe pain that I've had for 21 years and my insurance company requires that my doctor periodically do a "surprise" drug test to see if it's in my system (I guess to make sure I'm taking it and not selling it!) So far, it's always shown up. Maybe it didn't show up because you only took one and it was out of your system by the time you took the test? I'm not sure--hopefully someone else out there who only takes it occasionally and whose dose is low would know about this and could answer your question. Here's hoping!:-)
