Doctors In Louisiana That Prescribe Methadone For Chronic Pain (Page 13)

I have been taking 120 mg of methadone for approximately 5 years. My husbands job transferred us from Florida to Louisiana where I found a pretty good pain doc. He is now running scared and wants to take me off of methadone. Methadone has given me a good quality of life; I am able to work and be a productive member of society. My doctor is unwilling or unable to assist me in finding a new doctor who will continue my meds. Oh yeah, I have been the route of blocks and injections and gotten little if any relief. I'm tired of being branded a drug seeker-I have years of medical records that back up my claims and verify the dosages that I've been on-what drug seekers have this kind of back up? I am looking for a Louisiana doctor, but am willing to travel (within reason of course). Please help!!

I don't know what city u live in, but if u r close to or live n the Shreveport / Bossier City area. Then U should look up HEALTH CARE EXPRESS in Texarkana Tx. It's reletiveley close & they take on New Patients regularly!!
They have several clinics, but the one u need to contact is the one on RICHMOND Rd!!
Just so u know they prescribe that same "M" pain medication that U take as well.
They also do my couple other prescriptions also. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Yes, I live near breauxbridge. What dr do u see there that prescribes methadone for chronic pain? Please help, as my dr has retired and I have been on 40 mgs of methadone three times a day for ten years. It's the only thing that really works for me. I have had my back broke in 3 places and three complete fusions from L3 to L5 and s1 and need to have 2 more fusions and need to get back on my regular meds.

OMG!! I'm in St. Paul, Mn and I just found this website today. Your story is almost exactly like mine. I need a doctor right away before this other doctor takes me off methadone completely without any alternative medication. I went to this doctor to continue the care plan I've been on for 10 years. 40mg 3x's daily. She starting the tapering down 5mg each month 2 months now. She outright lied to me to get me under her care and now I'm trapped. If anyone knows a doctor in Mn PLEASE HELP ME.

Almost all drs are going by the FDA Guidelines that state a patient isn't to be prescribed more than 120 mg Morphine or Morphine Equivalent in a 24 hour period for chronic non cancer pain.

My doctor just retired and gave a month notice that I needed to find a doc. I am taking methadone and need to find a doc asap.. I am almost out and called many doctors and no one wants to prescribe it. I have fibromyalgia, bulging discs, neuropathy .. I've been on this for 13 yrs.. I don't want to withdraw from this because I hear it's bad. I can't get around good without my medicine.
.. I would appreciate an email mail with the doctors name.

Reading some of these posts~? I feel stupid asking.. I need a pain management doctor in New Orleans Louisiana Area.. I have good insurance.. On a bad day no more than 3X 5/325.. Most days 2X 3/325 Norco.. I have degenerating, bulging disks, and nerve root impingement on c5/c6.. Any assistance would be appreciated..

Scroll down the comments. I gave the address and phone number of a pain management doctor in Metairie. He's very good but very particular about his patients. No one under 30yo and you need documentation. I don't know of any pain management doctors who accept insurance. I don't know if that's because of the doctors or the insurance companies. Anyway, I don't believe what you take would be any problem. Why don't you give him a call and find out....

If pain is chronic and severe and you have recent diagnostic tests they prescribe extended release meds because it manages pain better since it is one every 12 hours. Most pain Dr will only.prescribe a limited number of immediate release tablets.

You;re correct. Oxycontin and Fentay will def f*** you up...but that's only my professional opinion [LOL], An old friend of my recently deceased Mom refused to take methadone because of that stigm. The other drugs were "snowing" her and it took every bit of persuasive power I had have her accept a methadone scripts FROM ME and from me only. It IS a good analgesic that doesn't make people, especially older people, zoned ut and dysfunctional. Thanks for the informative post, bro!

Kurt , Methadone Clinics treats addicts. You won't be able to find a pain management dr that will treat you with Methadone for your addiction in their office. If you have made the mistake of going to a Methadone Clinic to receive Methadone to treat your chronic pain, you won't be able to find a dr that will treat your pain with opiates. Methadone Clinics do not treat chronic pain.

Hi, I'm in the same boat and have recently moved to la. All the Drs in Lafayette either are not taking any new patients or can't or don't do long term treatment. I even got referred by a neurologist to pain clinic when he saw my records and reviewed my mri's. Then the clinic isn't doing long term care. People don't understand how much pain I'm in. I have been on 120mg of Methadone for 7 years with Dr. Merced in Lafayette, but 3 years ago he quit seeing all his patients. I went to another Dr. and it was fyntinal patches and hydrocodone. I cant take that anymore bc of health reasons. Can someone please give me the name of a Dr. around Laffayette, LA that prescribes Methadone?

Fee, you aren't going to find a dr anywhere that is going to put you on that much Methadone, if you can find one that will prescribe Methadone. If your current meds are causing you health problems, your current dr should be able to work with you and try you on other meds, even if he won't prescribe Methadone.

joe, Do you have a copy of your medical records from your previous dr ? A new dr is going to want medical proof that there is a reason for you to need pain meds. A new dr may send off for a copy of you rmedicla records or they may ask you to get them. There is no way of knowing what a new dr will and won't prescribe, even with a copy of previous medical records. If you were on a high dose, you will more than likely have a difficult time finding a dr, if yo can find one. It is best to just call and ask for a new patient apppontment and not ask if the dr prescribes any certain med. If you have insurance, you need to call your insurance company and see what pain drs in your area take their insurance.

Tiffany, what do you mean by long term treatment ? The majority of patients that go to pain management are their long term. A dr doing a referal to pain managment just means that you asked for pain meds and they won't prescribe them. Have you asked if the ones that aren't taking new patients have a waiting list ? If you have insurance, have you called your insurance company to see what drs in your area takes your insurance ?
