Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 263)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

@ CASS

YOU SPEAK ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO GET DENTURES BECAUSE MEDICAID IS NOT GIVING ENOUGH MONEY TO GET THEM BUT I PERSONALLY KNOW THAT THEY GET PRE AUTHORIZED. I WORK FOR A DENTAL CLINIC AND DEAL WITH IT ALL THE TIME. MEDICAID GIVES YOU 1,000.00 FOR ALL DENTAL BUT GETTING DENTURES THROUGH THEM IS NOT COMPLICATED AT ALL. AND ALMOST ALL PAIN MANAGEMENT CLINICS ARE CASH ONLY AND MEDICAID ONLY ALLOWS 300 MGS OF PAIN MEDICATION PER DAY AND NO MORE AND THE DR. WILL KEEP YOU UNDER THAT AMOUNT UNLESS YOU PAY FOR YOUR MEDS OUT OF POCKET WHICH I CAN TELL YOU CAN COST OVER 200 TO 300 PER MONTH. I HAVE A GREAT PAIN DR. BUT I ALREADY HAVE HER NAME AWHILE BACK A FEW TIMES.

It's been a long and difficult road for me. I switched pain doctors as my last one and I agreed to wean me down and it went too far for me to handle and I asked to go back a step. I was on 240 mg of oxycodone per day a year ago, and I voluntarily got down to 120 mg. Then we went down to 100, then down to 75 mg (5x15mg daily). It was too far and it wasn't helping my pain and I would wake up withdrawing every morning. So we went too fast I think. Dr dropped me because I wanted to go back a step to 100 mg for a while. So my primary referred me to a new pain doctor and took over my medication for two months only. Once I had my appointment on the 4th with my new pain doctor my primary was no longer willing to fill narcotics. My new pain doctor said they will not fill any prescriptions for me until they have every record from the last two years from each doctor. One shut down, I left two because of insurance and I was discharged from the recent one as I said above. So they said to to my primary to get this month's meds. My primary won't do it and they wrote a letter asking my new pain doctor to take over now, but they won't do it either. SO, I'm starting to understand why people do stupid things like try other drugs or kill themselves because being forced to go through pain and withdrawals due to red tape is more than just insulting, it's bad for my health. In the last month I was also diagnosed with diabetes and we found out my liver is damaged and are still doing diagnostics. Just a horrible month. I can't afford the cash to see a cash only doctor and my primary just referred me to a new doctor so I don't want to look like what they already think I am by asking to be referred to yet another pain doctor. Sigh.... what do I do?

I'm a recent move from GA, I've been dealing with autonomic nerve pain for over 5 years from NMS from Reglan. I have documents and need a doctor that does medical management
I'm working to open a restaurant and need to be fully functional as I am on my current regular meds, 40-60 mg methadone daily

I went to Co Pain. , (Not CPR) they looked over my records, took my insurance copay and then told me I could get some shots but it may or may not help and they would not continue my meds, I'm here in Denver a week early for this Co Pain Appointment and now it was a complete disaster. I need info and I've read about the doctor Lincoln seems okay, and that Maybe doc Dex Would be acceptable to methadone
Or maybe lady Dr Shawn would be willing

I'm also type one diabetic for ten years and have gastroparesis

I used to have a pain doctor in Florida and GA, but then they closed and I had no choice but to enter a MMT clinic in GA, I paid them cash only. But I'm not sure if this effects my ability or not the clinic said since I have pain I could transition back if needed.
I'm really scared and I have about ten days left of meds, I'm willing to do any test, provide any document, take Ua, pill count whatever it takes, my body is crushed if I'm without meds from the nervous system being damaged from regular and hyperglycemia, please help!!!

I am living in NW Oklahoma now and need to find a doctor who prescribes pain meds who
are near me-- preferably in SE Colorado. I was
seeing a doctor in Memphis when I lived there.
I have been on morphine for back injuries for
the last 8 years.
It's a very long drive to Memphis and back,
and trying to do without morphine after being on it that long does not work-- I already know
because I've tried several times, and ended up
in the hospital & emergency room several times. It's a dilemma I wouldn't wish on anyone, so believe me, I know and it's no fun.
Does anyone know of an MD who has enough
compassion to help me in your area?

#5223 Rainbow flowers,

Hey Rainbow, yes I go there and have for a very long time, basically since they opened. They have now expand and have a suboxone clinic to help patients wean off their medication when needed. So they have 2 offices in one, Colorado Pain Relief and Colorado Professional Recovery, they are good people, the new PA, is very competent, kind and extremely intelligent. She will weed out any seekers, users, sellers, and even people who use other things when they ate not supposed to. They are not in any trouble with the State, DEA, FDA, FBI or any other agency. They require blood draws yearly to check liver enzymes, they give U/A's monthly, your blood pressure and weight are tracked monthly. They truly care about their patients! Last year, a person, won't say of it was a man or woman, was discharged from CPR for using an illegal substance. That person then turned around and called the medical board and filled a complaint on Dr. Frisbee. Dr. Frisbee is any amazing man, highly knowledgeable, friendly and compassionate. The person who filed the charges made false statements, false allegations, and outright lied! I believe it has been cleared up completely, but it wreaked havoc on the clinic.

Firstly, the Colorado Medical Board must act upon every allegation as if it were true FIRST! So Dr. Frisbee was suspended until an investigation could ensue. It was his only income, he is not wealthy, so can you imagine if you didn't receive a paycheck or any income for 3 or 4 months! He had to prove his innocence. On top of that, we, the patients had no clue what was happening, one day they were open, the next they were closed. The person called the police on them multiple times and the police showed up at the clinic guns drawn because it is a pain clinic! Imagine how scared Amanda, the Certified Medical Assistant, must have been? She didn't deserve that! She is a loving mom and a very nice person. We the patients didn't have care for 2 - 4 months, depending on the time frame when you had your last appointment. They were able to get a doctor in on a temporary basis, but with 400+ patients out of medication for 2 - 4 months, you can imagine the stress and fear for everyone involved. So, before anyone thinks, suggests, hints at or even considers calling and lodging a formal complaint or allegation, think about the lives you may be destroying! Much love my fellow pain feelers and here's to a pain free, pain reduced, pain alleviated summer of fun!

I read your whole post. I am so very sorry that you have been through so much. I can see how you would be discouraged. In your post, you said you can't go there, but you actually didn't say where that was. I do understand that you can't go into it, but sorry if I offer suggestions that are of no help to you. I love Colorado Pain Relief, haven't been anywhere else, but I was given a referral by a pharmacist for Colorado Pain Management Dr. Paul Stefan or Dr. Joseph Shanklar, I believe they are in Westminster, but not positive. I know nothing about them. I do know however that most Primary Care Physicians do not handle Chronic Pain Relief and Management, there is just to much liability. Also most clinics that do handle Chronic Pain Relief and Management do not take ANY insurance and are mostly cash or self pay. To many legal hoops to jump through.
There are a few PCP's that do, but the vast majority do not!
Oh, Kyle Buss in Littleton is a PCP that takes insurance and handles Chronic Pain Relief and Management, but he isn't very nice. His bedside manor has a lot to be desired. I have heard of Dr. Lincoln, Dr. Dex, Dr. Smith, but I know nothing about them either.
Good luck, I hope you find relief sooner than later and I pray that the doctors will evaluate you with unbiased eyes!

I feel your pain, similar situation here in NY, I have L5S1 herniation, and neuropathic/generalized pain due to Multiple Sclerosis (25 years), I'll take the pain over being in a wheelchair, not able to walk. THANK GOD, my neurologist is willing to treat my pain, and is not afraid like most doctors are to Rx opiates. He told me pain is quite common with demyelinating diseases such as MS, but many doctors tend to ignore these symptoms, or not treat them properly, which can be quite debilitating. The Lyricas and Gabapentins did not work at all for me. He pretty much stated I am a model patient, as I try and take drug "holidays", set max limits, not matter how bad my pain is, and NEVER EVER EVER EVER take more than prescribed, which is what leads to that nasty dark road for which there is no U turn. If you ever get "Oh, what harm will taking one extra pill do ?" or "I'll wash this down with a beer or two" then flush them down the toilet, you will be a statistic. The one extra pill turns into 2 extra pills, then 3, then 4 then... your monthly script is finished in a week, and you are seeking more pills on the street, or a rogue doctor. If this is you, flush them, and take an Advil.

I have really been thinking about going to see Dr. Dex. I am currently taking methadone 90mg a day. It truly saved my life and I am able to work a normal shift without bending over in pain. Do you know if Dr. Dex prescribes Methadone in this amount? I am not sure what is even a high or low amount. Thank for your response! Happy to join the group

I am very sorry that you are having such difficulties. The very last paragraph of your statement is a huge red flag. Liver Damage!
Most, if not all pain clinics are going to say they can not help you due to this fact. They are not going to accept liability for liver damage. This may be the real reason your PCP said they would no longer treat you. Did they cut you off right after your blood work came back? If so, definitely a red flag.

Hi Co. SUSIE, it's been awhile. Also hello to Rainbowflowers!! This thread got kinda crazy, we had a stranger, a mom who says her son is an addict and selling his meds and she was going to blast on CPR, I don't go there, but we were all accused of not Really needing the meds. Seems the thread died. Also we have all given our Dr's info and newbies need to read back, there are legit Pm Dr's. Anyway hopefully we can get the thread going, and help one another again.

It's been the general problem all over the country, with very sick people who no longer have a doctor to treat their pain. A Corporation in TN purchased several offices in CO and shut off the meds with absolutely no warning and many people were very sick. Hopefully all those people have found a clinic or a doctor since March when this happened. It's funny how it's never in the news that people are being treated this way.

I think I'm going to try switching from Lincoln to Dex, to see if I can get better relief.
