Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 250)

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

U know I agree with u! It just irritates the heck out of me all these "Doctor's Against Pain" and pain mamagemt docs that when u actually talk to them, they actually will only do "Interventional Medicine" that actually say "why should I spend 45 minutes to write a script for u and make 60 bucks, when I can do IV's for the same amount of time and make $1200?" Not that they are useful but because they can make more money. And they call themselves "advocates" for folks like us! It used to make me mad when I worked doing workman's comp and their bosses saw them out hitting golf balls and would judge them! I'm thinking "what great progress!" then end up fighting with their bosses about what it took to be able to get him to be able to hit a few fold balls! Month's of physical therapy, surgery, more physical therapy, medications and then probably days in bed after and that was for them to just to get 15 minutes of a "normal life"! Pain folks goal should be to get them a "normal life"! My "normal" and can do things is at a level 4 on a pain scale! I'd love for these Doc's to have to work knowing that was going to be the best you were going to feel! It really angers me! If u went around and interviewed 6 general practice guys to see who was the best one, know one would think anything! You do it with pain doc's and you are doctor shopping! Why shouldn't u b allowed to pick someone u can get along with? And someone u trust? There r some really shady guys out there! Why arent they looking at them? My pharmacy had someone try to give a script for tons of oxy from a Dr in Florida! They called the Dr, who was no longer in practice! They paid a grand for several scripts that had the docs name on it and dea number and the person just filled it out with what they wanted! Needless to say the cops were there in seconds! My biggest complaint lately is that you can't get your scripts filled anywhere anymore! The pharmacies legally have three days to fill narcotic scripts! I don't know about u guys but some places can't fill them within that 3 day period! Making the doc's having to rewrite scripts! I don't take much and as per contract only fill at one pharmacy, they can't get any more oxy's in until at least Jan and they can't even promise it will b in then! Now what's going to happen? We going to get in trou me for pharmacy shopping also? Additionally, I couldn't believe it when I got my meds the prices went up close to 50%! Between the doc's visit and paying for my meds. It costs me close to $800! I'm not going to b able to afford this! So what do u do? Work and only b able to afford your meds or quit work, laying on the couch drinking beers? I've written my reps, governors and Obama! Someone has to get ha e on all this and a "reasonable" one!!

That's why I get so pissed when stupid people like that lady who said she has doctors that will write WHATEVER YOU WANT but she won't share because we're "judgmental" of people who are addicts and use them to feel high. Damn right I don't like people like that!!! They're the reason the DEA is getting involved and screwing up the ENTIRE THING just so they can keep their addiction. I don't care how they got addicted. Get on suboxone and stop your addiction in it's tracks before you screw everything up for people who needs meds for WHAT THEY ARE MADE FOR!!!!!! It just plain pisses me off. Now the DEA is down every dr's throat because people are treating these meds like recreational drugs who have NO reason to take them whatsoever. Go do some other drug if you want to feel high. Don't use pain meds and screw it up for everyone else.....

I agree with u Mac! I go myself in a real "pickle" which is why I ended up at CPR, which turned out to b the best thing! My old Dr quit doing pain management because of all the BS that's been going on and his main practice was general medicine! I called all of the Dr's on the list he gave me and the only one that would take paitent's was Spine One! The rest of the Dr's only did "interventional medicine" or anesthesia! Spine One of course sent me to yet another Dr for pain management! I saw the Dr! He had nothing of my history, didn't seem to care, wrote me scripts and said "next visit we will talk about injections"! He never listened to my history, couldn't care less I didn't ha e my MRI or examined me! Needless to say, I didn't like him! I scheduled another appointment, thank God with CPR! They told me that I had been "flagged" for Dr shopping! So, if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it! Makes me laugh, all u try to do is get a compentent Dr and u get flagged, while the crappy Dr's like the one I saw are out there practicing! Seems a little. Backwards to me!

I would like to try unified but I don't want to go, get dropped from cpr and then not even get prescribed what I am prescribed at cpr. Then I would be really screwed.

I just have to really give a good report on Unified. I have had some really messed up stuff happen with my insurance and they have gone so far beyond what I would even expect from them. I had to come up with a plan and thier financial guy has told me "Don't worry I don't want to *%&* up your life... we will make it work!" Kaley is SO attentitive and compassionate. I have cried at my appointments several times. I never feel rushed. The only complaint someone might have is waiting a little when you get there and that is because they do take the time needed with each patient.

Hi rainbow flowers.i haven't called yet .our car was giving us issues and without a car I wouldn't be able to get to denver and have a lot going on.and normally I can handle a lot but it seems since I've been off my pain meds ,I'm in so much pain it's so hard to stay focused and deal with life, I'm having a really bad flare up right now from spinal stenosis and I get the worse pain down my legs that get worse at night ,so sleep has not happend and just exhausted.finally after much hesitation I smoked the green Tabacoo to help with my sleep .and wow it doesn't take my pain away but it dulls it and makes it easier to cope with it and I actually slept so good last night. in the past trying it ,the green made me paranoid and made my pain worse but I know things have changed.but depending on what u get it can help.i just dont like doing it during the day with my girls and trying to function and being on a pain contract for so long it was automatic discontinuation with my previous pain doc. i don't think it's a answer to my pain and I'd rather have proper pain managment but for now it makes life and my pain easier to deal with.but on Monday no matter what I'm calling around and going to more persistent in finding a pain doc.thank u so much to everyone for all the info on dr.s.its been so helpful I know for a lot of people.i wish CPR worked out .see I only saw dr.may once and I really liked him a lot.but I was always with joe the p.a.and I just didn't mesh with him.he never did a physical, asked me about my meds, side affects,if I didn't start a conversation he wouldn't even talk to me.he would sign my scripts and I would leave.it felt so wierd and when he released me for a consultation for a new pain clinic that had just opened down the street.i told Amanda what was going on and I just wanted to talk with this new pain doc and I had no intention on getting meds or anything like that.my thought process was if I can have a dr.here in grand junction and not have to drive to denver and pay cash at CPR it would make sense.and Amanda said she understood and as long as I didn't get meds it was fine.and the next thing I know I got a letter from joe the p.a saying he released me for dr. shopping in 7!yrs.i never failed a u.a or pill count so it really came to a surprise and then they wouldn't refill my meds for at least another month.i try not to get mad.ive been in the medical field for 18 yrs, since I was 18 and I've tried to educate myself about my pain, meds, the effects of pain meds etc.and I know the dea is a big problem for dr.s right now.but I can't help to feel that somewhere in there of being cautious as a dr.and getting rid of the drug seekers ,a lot of dr.s actually stopped treating pain all together or pull people of their pain meds after yrs.i know a lot of elderly people through st.marys that had their dr.s just say I can't prescribe u pain meds anymore.dr.s are scared to treat anymore but there was a reason pain meds were formulated and with proper pain managment it could give u your life back.suffering everyday isn't living,it's torture and when you go to a dr.for help and get called things because your on pain meds or have been on them it's just not right.but we all hold on to hope ,I know I do and there are good dr.s that care and want to help,it's just really hard to find them.ive been lucky til now with my 2pain drs.alot of people don't get chronic pain or want to understand it but for those of us who live it everyday, all we want is a little help.so wish me luck on Monday finding a dr.my big fear is taking the trip to denver and seeing another new pain dr.that can't or isn't wiling to help.these trips are long and not cheap.but I'm holding on to hope.

WOW is right! What a horrible
story! I hope your Dr ripped that nurse
A new one! I understand that ortho guys are getting this the worse, they tend to "hold on to" their patient's for too long and don't refer out to pain managemt guys (that's the excuse that's being used) but golly, u are still having acute issues, it's appropriate! Mac's right, I'd try CPR! They will work with your Dr and get u up and running, without pain and quickly! There r other guys that do the same thing mentioned in this thread, I don't have experience with them but folks seem happy with them! No one deserves to b treated like u have been! Write us! We r good at listening and sometimes even come up with good ideas! HaHa! The bottom line is, that nurse needs to be talked to. Right out of her job! When did she get her MD and u have a right to be mad! Take care!

Hey Mac,
I go to Unified Health Group in Arvada. They take Medicaid and the non covered services are greatly reduced.

Hi Monica... Yes they do pain meds there. I finally found a place I love. I was improperly medicated before. I am on fentanyl patch and am rebuilding my life that was almost destroyed because of past uncaring Dr's not understanding. I highly encourage you to try Unified. They treat the whole person.

WOW! I just had my fourth cervical fusion 3 weeks ago. Now fused from C4-T1. I have DDD, RA, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis, stable compression fracture T11, and herniated L4-L5. This most recent surgery was a rough one since my C7-T1 disc was herniated into my spinal column and both nerve roots were compressed. Plus a mess of several bone spurs. I was in immense pain!
Anyway, my PCP is a good doctor, and I've been going to him since 2010. Prior to this surgery, I was taking ibuprofen/hyrocodone bitartarte 200/7.5 ONCE daily so I could tolerate the treadmill. I continued to work full time.
I went for my "annual" follow up and will need refills to last for the next three months because my insurance is changing Jan 1, and it will take that long to get in for a first time visit at a pain clinic/PCP.
Well well. Upon returning home, I got a call from a "special clinic" that sees pain patients who need an alternative to opiods. In other words--they are fighting this war on chronic pain med use. Really? I started PT YESTERDAY, and I am way ahead of the curve when it comes to cutting back on dosage and frequency for post surgical pain.
I called my doc, and it appears that he did not place the referral--that his nurse evidently did. Yes, HE was well aware that I am still in the acute post operative phase. And he's not even managing my post-operative pain! The refills were to get me through until March or so (I can't even take the NSAID combo until they are sure I'm fused). And that is mainly for the lumbar pain along with arthritis in my hips. Again ONE a day--prior to surgery, and I don't forsee a change in that.
But I was so offended (and, yes PO'd) that I resolved to wait as long as I possibly could today before taking my second dose. My first one was at 0430 AM. I caved in when I was uncomfortable to tears at 330 PM.
What is wrong with these people? I can't drive, can't walk, can't do the exercises and stretches that I need to do for my recovery. I even have a special bed and a hot tub that I use frequently. At this rate, I'll never be able to return to work!
My sympathies are with you all.

Does unified help with pain meds also.along with other therapies?cause when I checked their website ,they sounded more holistic?all natural?which I've done and willing to do but without a little pain relief ,p.t is impossible .ive tried.i can do strict,I've never failed a u.a in 5 yrs.and with this lumber stenosis .ive done p.t without pain meds and I got a bad flare up that lasted 5weeks.it was horrible. in my pre pain days .i was a competive gymnast, made varsity softball my freshman yr..and as a adult worked out at the gym constantly.now p.t kicks my butt and I'm layed out for days.
