Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 201)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Hey sweetie, have you called and talked with them?
Call Cordiant, the pharmacy and ask them to contact CPR for Auth.
Has anyone given you a reason?
They have over 400 people, it is very possible you have been overlooked.

Hello Colorado Support Group:

I am rather new to this discussion site as well as other online support groups for pain, anxiety, depression, expression, assistance w/ locating a doctor or pain center through various links/websites, & more importantly, the agonizing which I have noticed across the board from chronic pain sufferers such as myself w/ a bulging disc in my cervical spine, mild to moderate arthritis, TMJ (when a lot of my chronic pain began thanks to an army of dentists @ the same office where the right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing. Therefore, 13 yrs. ago I had 2 maybe 3 failed root canals & 5 teeth pulled on the bottom including 2 crowns plus a wisdom tooth that became infected after a bone spur worked it's way out while I was @ work a week after I had seen a local dentist not part of the large group in Charlotte, NC if anyone is familiar w/ that neck of the woods as we say in the south??! The lack of integrity & compassion does not just exist w/ pain Dr.'s & PCP's. Let's not 4get ER Dr.'s as I have been reading reviews flooding the pages of online support groups relating to chronic pain patients being misunderstood time & time again. I recall telling this D.A. (keeping it clean!) a week or so prior that sumthin wasn't right & I was having pain in my jaw feeling like a piece of a tooth was working it"s way thru the gum. He did not take me seriously & probably just thought I was after more painkillers. He had done a root canal not too long B4 that & I think it just nearly killed him to call in (8 ) 5 mg.Vicodin pills after the procedure. He called in a few Vicodin pills B4 the root canal as my tooth was throbbing & I had 2 wait a few days 4 the procedure. He mentioned taking Ibuprofen 2 me after the root canal & a few weeks later when I had a bone spur coming thru causing pain although I did not know what it was at the time but he should have known. He brushed it off like so many Dr.'s 2day do now more than ever. I began a long journey of dental pain nightmares along w/ beginning another journey of going from taking Ibuprofen 2 or 3 @ a time to taking it by the handfuls even the 800 mg. prescription meds. I disagree that prescription Ibuprofen 800 mg. is the same as taking four of the OTC 200 mg. Why would one need a script for it if that was the case? The script is more pure w/ no preservatives but let's face it; Ibuprofen is not designed for chronic pain! I have used it for dental pain, back pain, neck pain, menstrual pain, & for years I have dealt w/ abdominal pain. I used Ibuprofen, Tylenol, & Aleve like it was going out of style to rid my pain b/c of being faced w/ insensitive Dr.'s not wanting to write out effective pain meds. despite MRI"s & various diagnostics, plus trying other ineffective methods for back pain like epidurals, nerve blocks, & therapy. I will admit aqua therapy was somewhat effective due to the soothing of the water. I did have a lot of breakthrough pain & was told to take Celebrex which tore my stomach to pieces. I was put on steroids like Prednisone which had me climbing from one wall to another. I was shaky & felt like jumping out of my skin. I now am diagnosed w/ stomach ulcers which have caused nausea, sickness, loss of appetite, & the worst stabbing pain ever which has led me to more than my fair share of ER visits. I did have Hiatal Hernia surgery about 6 years ago but it took about two years & 15-20 visits to the ER w/ non-stop vomiting B4 it finally happened. How much does anyone wanna bet lack of ins. played a role in it? That can happen no matter how sick someone is & it is a crying shame! I could not sleep tonite so I wanted to share w/ you all just a portion of my chronic pain life & the events which led up to it. I apologize it took so long to share this portion. There is much more where that came from but that is for another day. I do respect that everyone deserves a chance to share. Just know that I am fighting the same demons trying to manage chronic pain & anxiety plus insomnia as most folks on these msg. boards. I am seeking a chronic pain Dr. & a good PCP w/ in 40-50 miles of Charlotte,NC for anyone reading that may know someone in the area. I look forward to making good friends around the globe through support & guidance. B4 I close I do have a ? for the Colorado residents. As far as chronic pain goes, doesn't CO offer medicinal marijuana? NC probably will never pass it but it seems that would help some folks w\ their chronic pain needs, right? Let's stick together & keep fighting for our right to true pain relief as legitimate chronic pain patients. Seeing my Neurologist today with no sleep. My pain Dr. decides after 2 years of giving me the same level of pain meds. which work knowing I was on Benzos the whole time for seizures/panic attacks that he all of a sudden wants me off of Benzos or he will reduce my pain meds. Talk about blackmail! He could have told me this over a year ago. I have been on Benzos for 7 years & they won't be easy to stop. I did not want this since my anxiety plus my pain was being controlled for once. I thought the pain Dr. was very unprofessional & showed no compassion whatsoever. I am in a bad position since I simply cannot take antidepressants since they put me in a fog. I have a choice to find another pain Dr. who can write out the same meds. & does not have a problem w/ Benzos. I am going to let my Neurologist know that & I do not trust this pain Dr. anymore. He may reduce my pain meds. anyway even if I go off Benzos. I just have to stress to my Neurologist how bad the panic attacks are & I don't have time to wait to see their sleep Dr. & go thru a sleep study just to try to get Ambien for sleep @ nite. I don 't think this pain Dr. cares if they lose patients as they are not even returning my calls when I left them msg. asking them about specific meds. that I can use in place of Benzos. That is not professional & giving me the option of going somewhere else w/out discussing anything @ my last appt. tells me that he may be getting ready to "clean house" or retire. He never has spent even 5 min. in the room. He just would ask if the pain meds. were working then handed over the scripts. He never had time for ?'s & sent me for an MRI last year per my request since I asked about surgery but never bothered going over the MRI w/ me. He discouraged surgery then but probably doesn t care now. I also read bad reviews on him the other day. One person said he had changed over the past two yrs. which is how long I have been going to him. He had good reviews B4 but now has more bad ones so sumthin is not right. I am afraid to stay w/ him. Wish me luck! I hope I can get my Neurologist to understand my position. I wish he would write out my pain medicine but he is too scared like everyone else. I am just afraid I will end up like this one person on the review board that said the pain doctor cut him down on his medicine without telling him why and then he was in withdrawal for a whole month plus they would not even answer the phone when he tried to call or did they returned any of his calls. Please have a good day everyone and be in touch if anyone knows of a good pain doctor or PCP in the Charlotte North Carolina area or 50 miles within the area. Thank you and we all need to stick together just speak out. We all need to stand up for our rights to have pain relief and speak to your congressman. I think we all will agree that part of the problem is the people who refused to write out the medicine is the ones who are not in pain and know nothing about what it's like to be in chronic pain. Please try to have a great day until we meet again!??

Try the Colorado Pain Clinic in Golden, Colorado. Talk with Dr Jason Krutch. I must warn you that the DEA is sticking their egregious noses into all opioid prescriptions. I take 3 40mg Oxycontins daily and 2 5mg Oxycodones daily. The DEA says that is too much and the clinic is constantly trying to lower my dose. I have the same medical issues as you. I'm getting shots in my joints and that is helpful for pain reduction. Good luck and if you find a doctor that will prescribe your current regimen, please let me know!

Cc and 6, I'm not sure what insurance you have but if you are using an attorney, they have doc's they specifically like to use. Some workman's comp, etc doc's are pro patient or pro agency. I know Colorado Rehab does evals and they have offices all over town but I encourage you to ask lots of questions before you hire anyone.

TO ALL, I like most of us, have spent a ton of time with Medicaid lately. Like Wendy and others, many of my meds aren't being covered, although when this first came out i was given a 6 month approval. However, one question I've asked because I keep hearing how these changes have decreased oxy overdose deaths is what´s going on with illicit drug overdoses? No one would answer but today printed up that in the past 8 years such overdoses have risen 5 times what they were. Which is worse than the oxy deaths they were combating. What it tells me is legit and more than likely not legit patients are going to the streets. What angers me is that although oxy was being over prescribed, these folks getting meds on the street are no longer in the care of a doc to transition them, help them with doses and more importantly the truly don't know what they are getting. Medicaid/government is putting a huge population in danger, that's just not right. Between the costs of care, as Wendy says it is impossible to get a Medicaid doc to help with pain management, the legit patients dealing with what a few bad patients are doing, everything now is being micromanaged and poorly. The fall out from all this is us, the true pain management patients. I've encouraged everyone to write all their congressmen, representatives and the president himself, sign petitions, etc but it´s only been met with further restrictions and from what the CDC Colorado isn't even listed as one of the worst offenders of oxy offenses. I ask folks to think about what we can do to be heard. We were worried two years ago and things settled down and now it´s even worse. Getting good care is close to impossible for many. I'm frustrated.

I am from Colorado and they are cracking down very hard because of the legalization of marijuana. As if people have not been coupling their prescription drugs with marijuana and more dangerously alcohol, for years. My suggestion to you would be to go to Vail, Colorado. There are so many skiing accidents and world-class surgeons that, in my opinion and that of many others, have been leading the Western Medical world on repairing major physical injuries. They are familiar and sympathetic to pain. Most doctors are very willing to prescribe medication. In the meantime go to the methadone clinic that is south of the city just off I 25. I know too much, unfortunately I have recovering friends and some that were beat by addiction. I hope you can find help. A lifetime on the hill has given mea long list of injuries mysel. I deal with severe, sometimes crippling, pain on a everyday basis. I have broken my back, pelvis (those are the 2 worst) and have residual problems including a bulging discs, sciatica and urinary retention, which means I have to use a hard plastic catheter every single time I have to pee, it hurts like a mofo! But nothing like what you are dealing with. The people at the methadone clinic may be able to point you in the right direction of the doctor and Denver. I believe all you need is a prior prescription, that is what my friend said who recently came from Texas. I sincerely hope you find help and are very careful, those pills can be so dangerous??

To Wendy:
I was catching up on posts, I can't believe your going through so much. (Actually I can). But I want you to know your in my prayers. I hope you get the help your looking for real fast. That's just a horrible deal!!!

Take care sweet heart.

Meanwhile I go to meet with spine doctors on the 16th :'( and until then just have to deal with it. Atleast this post keeps me occupied. Also does anyone know if an Internest helps. I was talking with an"acquaintance". Who was telling be about ALL the meds he got (for recreation). And he was seeing an Internest. The amount he received (It was infuriating)

Things are going to get way worse in America when it comes to prescribing opiates. I don't know of any in Northern California that will. Plus the death of Prince amongst almost every other celebrity dying of opiates doesn't help. I just take Methadone and i'm almost off it. I suggest everyone seeking opiates just get on Methadone and taper off it cause in the years to come docs are not going to help you if you really want opiates.

Wendy, 4022

Did you call a SS LAWYER, just so you are aware, they ALL must follow the same regulations. They charge the same set fee and the same percentage set by the SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION. I contacted several and mainly all you have to decide is, do I like this person, everything else will be exactly the same. They go back from when you first applied till the time you are approved. Since you were already approved, there will be slightly different guidelines. Hope you are feeling a little bit better today.
