Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 183)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Stay away from Fine!! My advice. Also over 90% failed the last UA and for those of us who passed we still got banned from any narcotic meds. The mandate came from the higher up.

Janeygirl......Hi thete . Its karina . Did you say that Denver Health has a program for methadone?. I have excellent insurance. I just can't find someone who can prescribe methadone. I'm not sure what's going to happen. I've been on methadone almost all my life. The pain has gets worse the older I get. I just want to function without hurting so bad. Thanks for the info. Happy Holidays

Lucy and Wendy,

That doesn't surprise me at all. There's a new "suggestion" going around to pain doc's that script's written shouldn't be over 120 mg total. UA's r calculated by metabolites in the urine. If u so much as take an extra pill, u will flunk. One of mine showed up with methadone and I've never had it in my life. I demanded it b redone by another lab and it came back clean. There's leeway in the directive and some true pain doc's r able to grandfather patients that have been stable for quite some time. Unfortunately, primary doc's aren't included in this. I'm super frustrated. I've talked with medicaid about them having tons of pain doc's but when u call to schedule they are at their quota. They said they can't do anything about it and I told them they should take them off their programs.

Yes! Denver Health does have a good methadone program. I'm not sure how often u need to go in to received meds, it used to b quite frequently. Most pain doc's if u have been on methadone for pain will write for it. U also may want to try University of Colorado. They do have a pain program but will only write your primary to actually write pain script's but they used to write for methadone. It's worth a call.
Maybe we should split up the Denver area, make calls and c if anyone can find out who takes medicaid. I wonder what happened to CPR and their getting certified? I know it was for suboxone patients but maybe if enough of us ask they may check into it!

CPR won't ever take medicaid. Amanda told me they don't get paid enough .

Poop! I wonder why they were trying to get Medicaid for their Suboxone program? It just makes me mad that Medicaid has tons of docs listed, u spend hours calling them only to find out they r "full" for their quota. I've gotten absolutely no answers from medicaid about this or what their obligations r to find an appropriate doc or care. Suboxone is not an option for me. Not that anyone cares but how do they expect medicaid patients to pay out of pocket?

Well it looks like it's back to the opiates! THAT MAKES A WHOLE LOT OF SENSE NOW DOESN'T IT. These stupid agencies. They don't know what the hell they are doing.

Dr. Fine is a good choice for a pain Dr IF you can use him for a GP as well. He will not take you as just a pain patient. I know, I paid the office visit fee of $225, showed him my records and saw his PA. They only take you if you can switch to them for everything!

Well first of all there wouldnt be no pill junkies out there if there were no dumb*** doctors just looking to make a buck. The doc he dont give a f*** about your luck or sickness its just about the money and he/she has the most money end. If Wal-Mart has systems to keep people from getting the stuff to make methamphetamine or what ever they are making. Then the hospital and or pharmaceutical should do the same. Because for the life of me I cant figure out how the hell someone with a masters or bachelors degree can not be smart enough to know the difference between someone in true pain or a junkie looking for a fix. Seems to me you damn doctors should be smarter than that and if your not, then just dont be a f***en doctor..

I just don't understand why so many here are finding it so hard to find a PCP, that will handle pain management. I moved here last September, ended up on Medicaid for about 4 months. I found a doc at Denver Health Lowry campus and explained my situation, and provided my records from my old doc in WA. He had no issue with keeping me on my pain meds, at the previous dosage. Once I found a job and had regular insurance, I moved to Parker, found a doc in Parker, provided my records, let them check me out themselves, and......same meds, same doseage and zero issues. I even lost my bag with all of my meds on the airplane a couple months back, called my doc, and he replaced all of my meds, including narcotic pain meds. As for doctors not being allowed to prescribe pain meds......from what my doc has said, unless they have been in trouble in the past, this is false. They either do not want to prescribe, or they don't want to prescribe to that person. When people go into a doc, with a grocery list of medicine they "need", it raises red flags. When they arrive and say they used to be a patient of "X" doctor.....it raises a flag. When changing doctors, bring your records, tell what you have been doing, and let them do their thing. They may want to start the med ladder all over again, but it is their license and practice.

LeeLee12....thx for the laugh. You are so right... don;t call yourself a pain doc if you cant differentiate. And for the Love of God, if you are on generally high doses of narcs Dr. Fine will not give you what you need. Also, if you are overweight hell blame your pain on that and will tell you to lose weight instead. Hes nice enough but I woulnt go see him for pain meds if u paid me

I don't mean to be obnoxious, but for you newbies. take and hour or two and go back and read all he posts from the beginning. You will get many dr names who are good and who aren;t. You wil also get llots of good suggestions. I just noiced so many of you that are new to our site are asking the same questions and some are going unanswered cuz they have been asked and answered several times before. Personally, it was worth the time for me cizz I got so much information,. Just a friendly suggesion.. I mean no ill will. We are all here to support each other because even with our pain, meds, tolerance to meds, etc may be different I found this group to be as sympathetic as possible - something my pain free friends and family cant relate. Welcome again to all u newbies
