Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 178)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Any thing we can do Wendy!
Doc's in Denver area u can check out, CPR up in Wheatridge, Dr Rock Navarkal in Cherry Creek Area, Rocky Mountain Pain and Colorado Rehab they have offices all over town except I'm not sure, I've heard some have left the practice and there's been some restructuring and Denver Health has a program. C if any of these help out, if not, let me know and I'll get more. CPR is probably the easiest to get into and has suboxone program if u r interested, Dr Rock is a very kind and good doc, probably the second easiest to get into. Oh with CPR, expect them to b self pay, I think $200 or so first visit and $180 after that. Hope this helps, I do have others, let me know. Take care and good luck!

Cakes I'm in FL. We've posted before. It looks like you left FL to Co about the same time I left Co to FL. It's rough here. I've been VeRy fortunate I have no problems getting my meds Rx d or filled. Yet I'd say 8/10 folks here are doing the "pharmacy crawl" we have a group here in FL. They have confronted the DEA as to why they have scared all pharmacist..FL BOP hearings and all kinds of stuff . Well ill b back in Co, Aurora area in @ 9 months. I'm familiar with CoSusie, Tammy. Mac (RIP) Janneygirl too. I'm trying to see what's going on in Co. PM wise. I have Medicare primary and Medicaid secondary. Does that make me ineligible to pay cash? Any info is great...thx much ladies!!

Janeygirl I'm trying to find your post about what happened. I can't find it. You are very correct when you say complaining about things won't help. Even those who can't get out of bed can send emails. I belong to a very active group. I've emailed congress, president senator etc. Here in FL where I think must be the worst state to get pain care, it's unfortunate for a lot of patients. I wanted to say hi. It's been awhile since I've been on this thread. I'm usually on the FL one trying to help FL find Dr.s. Being premenopausal in FL with a pituitary cyst among my other dx s is hard on body that's adapted to beautiful Colorado. I'll b back in 9 months. I was living in Aurora, I used to go to Unified Health in Arvada. In late 2014 they weren't writing controlled meds for new patients. I really did like my Dr. There though. Dr. Hong was his name. I will b looking to see if he has his own practice or go to Wheatridge s CPR. Do you know if they are doing the 120 mg/morphine equivalent Rx ing in Co. There is a petition out to stop the Cdc from doing that. I wish I could put these links on Meds chat. That way the higher ups would be overflowing in e-mails from all of the suffering ppl I see on medschat. Oh how I miss the mile hi!! Can't wait to get back....hope things get better for you dear. You have always been so nice to all of us

Ladies. here's how CO Medicaid//Dental works... They will pay a MAXIMUM of $1000 per year (their fiscal year is from July - Hun). Cleanings and cavities/fillings do not need a prior auth but root canals do. Emergencies are covered in full and does not affect the $1,000 max.

I recently woke up with a tooth infection and my face was swollen to a degree I had not seen before. I went to Inner City Health (Ph: 303-296-4873). They took me in as an emergency that very day. Even tho Im on patches/oxys, I was in a great deal of pain until the antibiotics kicked in. Inner City Health has a terrific staff and the cost is on a sliding scale fee basis; When you call to make an appt. they will explain to you what paperwork they require to prove financial status and will charge you accordingly. I was tenuous at first but I highly recommend them and we now have a treatment plan for my long neglected oral care. Hope this helps.

Lucy,
Having just gone through this, there is help and hopefully with having this info, it won't take the year and a half it took me to get the help I needed.
First off, it's my understanding Medicaid has changed what they will and won't pay for AND u can file paperwork for authorizations. It does take time.
Second, call University of Colorado. They have a Dental Clinic where you can students to begin with and if any problem is over their abilities, they send u to the Faculty Group. They do accept Medicaid. If u have an Emergency, they have a Dental ER, the only place in town that I know of that treats dental emergencies and takes Medicaid. Look them up on the internet, they do have restricted times and r open Monday through Friday BUT if they r not open, go to University Hospitals ER, they r used to taking folks with dental emergencies.
I have been through the wringer with my dental issues and it's taken me three years to finally get treatment. Everyplace I went to gave me incorrect info as far as medicaid and most dentists do not have hospital privileges. I had to have all my work done in a hospital because of my heart issues.
I was honestly impressed with the care I recieved and although the desk staff can be a little snarky, the doc's and their staff r amazing.
Truly, get off the Merry Go Round and give them a whirl. I can give u all the phone numbers if u can't find them. A kind Dentist that attended the college was who turned me onto them. After years of looking for someone from Longmont to Colorado Springs and coming up with nothing, they were a God send. The doc that operated on me retired but he kept his hospital association until I was set up with a reconstruction guy and was well on my way to healing. He was amazing, the other doc's I met were equally so!
Don't get me wrong, there r doc's that treat dental issues but if u have any issues they don't want anything to do with u or want to charge u outrageous amounts. Plus their staff does all the Medicaid work for u and got everything covered. Many r still using the old Medicaid coverages also. They basically don't want medicaid patients.
I honestly should have gone there to begin with but was worried about "students" working on me. The instructors literally stand overtop of them and I believe u get better care because there r so many people looking u over. In the faculty practice, u get the cream of the crop. No students, all doc's that take difficult cases that students aren't allowed to work on but observe. Like I said though don't let the front desk folks turn u off. It's worth tolerating them.
There is a list of dentists that take Medicaid on their website. I called most of them and most either were at their limit for Medicaid clients or don't take them at all anymore. It was a lesson in futility. There r also some programs in denver like Smile Again. They provide dental care for women who have been abused. The Denver ADA has a list of them. U can also try them. The other group that provides good dental care and has certain clinics that take medicaid patients is Comfort Dental. They have a pretty good reputation for giving good dental care but if u have bad issues like me and can only b done in a hospital not a surgi-center then University is the place. They got all over my needs covered and Medicaid does cover dentures and appliances. Make sure u r checking the recently updated coverage and it's much different than it used to be plus we fought to get my oral care covered. The infection was the part that got me covered. With infections being able to attack our heart, and metal in our body, the potential for deadly consequences made a big difference. So don't take no for an answer.
I hope this helps!
As far as getting kicked out of your program due to pot smoking, many have changed their policies. Potherwise is legal now, it's like alcohol. I listed a bunch of docs, it went to review but I know many of them no longer check for pot because it's legalized.
Wendy, Send me permission to email u. I can't seem to get it to go through from my computer. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. But I'd be more than happy to help.
Hope everyone has a great week and Lucy, let me know if u need some help. Seriously, I've just been two years dancing with the same issue and my infection was so bad at that point the infection actually ate through my bone. So now I'm dealing with bigger issues. Don't allow that to happen to u. I'm happy to say since having my surgery, I no longer have so much pain, tooth pain is the worst and no longer wake up with bags under my eyes every morning. I look at least 1p years younger. But mostly for you health, don't let it continue to feel like crappie and risk your health.
Be good guya!

I'm very upset to know that others are going thru this same serious problem as you. I'm in the same boat. I've been going thru this for 1 year now and am so sorry for your suffering. I've been told by my doctor that they will no longer be prescribing pain meds without any reason. I've never had any reason to be treated like this. I'm going to try going to a new doctor this week but i can get some names for you. {edited for privacy}. God bless you. Stay strong

I have been on Methadone and Percocet,Diaudid and other things non narcotic.Been seeing the same pain specialist for about 15 yrs. This last month took the Percocet away completly, went from 100 mg of methadone and day in three doses to know only 7o mg,sucks took me years to get the right combination now?He is afraid of losing his license so i and others have to suffer.I came in one month and he took massive amounts of blood.Turns out he was checking for EVERYTHING one can imagine but except for having no Percocet in my blood all the rest were correct and at therapeutic levels. Is there any doctor that is more empathetic and will give me what i need?I am going to be 63 yrs old so i have been around the block a few times.I have several back issues also had three TMJ surgeries plus one was a total meniscus removal,so very difficult to eat, talk, drink and it always hurts.

My husband has been on Oxycontin 60mg 2 pills a day than for break through they gave him Oxycodone 30mg 4 a day for break through pain...And his Doctor her in Trinidad, colo fired him for using medical marijuana..So get this I looked over the Narcotic contract that they had him sign and NO where in the contract does it say Marijuana..So I confronted them on this and they used the excuse that in the contract it says "At no time should you use mind altering drugs"...He was just being an a**hole I think..How could they use that as an excuse..So I went to The administrator of the Clinic/Hospital and they said they Doctor also used that my husband didnt take his MRI, but my husband has an anxiety disorder that made him freak out when they tried putting him in the machine..So please if any one can help us find a doctor that will treat my husbands chronic pain...I would appreciate it..(Southern Colorado)

Told I should have my location, Denver metro area us fine. I looked at new law, easy reading but a hasty decision has been admitted at least. The law states that a general physician can write a patient no more then 130 mg morphine or the equivalent but a specialist may write no more then 230.00mg per day. Is it set in stone? Yes and physicians have a few months to comply. I am convinced the reason for these laws is two fold, one all the abuse, second lets face facts our government, is involved in this and since most of the morphine base coming from the golden triangle ships to Syria where made into opiates and distributed all over the world. This is why Russia is helping Assad to open up the pipeline clogged by Isis. So I think we are fighting a loosing battle if this is true and I have no reason to believe it is not. I do know some will go by a case basis.

Wendy, reading everything just gives me a pit in my stomach. My family was in a very similar situation 3yrs ago and it's difficult all the way around especially when you're hurting like hell physically thru it all. Here's something at least...Excel has a program called "LEAP". the number is on the back of your excel bill for future reference but I have it here for you it 866-432-8435. If your electric is already disconnected they will allow you to fax or email your application and they will jump on quickly. I know that's a shocker but they will. The 2nd option available is going down to Human Services. They can get you signed up for food stamps (which is a credit card) to help with groceries and they also had family emergency funding to help ppl in your exact situation so call them right away. They can send you all the program information you want to sign up for. The point is there's a lot of help available through the state. Furthermore, they will provide you a list of agencies and programs that offer financial assistance for housing and living expenses due to sudden job loss and other emergencies. There's a lot of help there and I can vouch it does work. Many of the agencies run out of funding around the holidays so jump on it quickly. I hope something works out soon.

Wendy did you report that company EFS to the Arvada police fraud department? If not you should just because they have your personal info like social security number. You want to make sure they can't steal your personal info and use it illegally.

Looks like this isn't the regular kind of forum with registration, private messages, etc but it seems worth a try to ask who you found. I'm in a similar, but differing in details, situation. Pain prevents me from researching neurosurgeons and I need neurosurgery before my pain will go away. My insurance covers practices in Ft. Collins and Loveland.... I live in Boulder.

I am looking for a pain specialist in either west Denver,Lakewood,Littleton. The one I see and have forever is very good but I have the feeling that he will concentrate his practice on detox which is lucrative and less DEA intervention. The group the state is aiming for are people ages 18-26 twice the national average if abuse. For folks over 26 yrs old we are half the national average,so thanks kids!

We ran into this problem also and moved and now tell no one about his use. No need to check for it if it's not talked about. I don't know anymore, it's especially difficult when he wants to give up. He has yet another appointment with yet another doctor and he is balking and refusing to go. Says he is tired of it and that it is a bunch of bulls***. He swears he saw a flashing red box with the words, "Do NOT Admit." on the CT monitor.
