Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 118)

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Texmex, you mentioned most of docs are good. Is there anyone else to stay away from other than Teresa? Also do you know if they take Medicaid?

Group question: mr current doc told me the same thing Rainbow was told from Teresa at Rocky mtn internal- feel free to get a second opinion. I did just that and tried to set up consultation and was told by dr Tracy's office they dont take medicaid and furthermore it was illegal for them as a PM office to take medicaid patients. Afterwards, they called my dr. and my dr confronted me on the next appt asking me if i was dr shopping and told me they had discussed my medications and that dr Tracy's office agreed that the course of treatment my current dr has me on (reducing to my meds every month to reach the endgoal of 120mg for time release and immediate was the best course if action.)

Heres where i got really uptight because i thought Hippa protected the patient from this type of scenario. 2nd the ONLY "treatment" option Im offered is a drastic lowering of meds every month. 3rd i have not been given a diagnosis. 4th i have not been offered any other treatment options. This is backwards coming from a great doc i had for several years where his concern was my quality of life and made many suggestions, did a physical exam every visit, and also made adjustments. Ive had this dr for 6 months and he hasnt done one thing to help me. His main concern is compliance. I can understand that much but there should be some concern over patient too. This doc has no backbone and zero concern for his patients.

On the other hand, how the heck are you supposes to get another dr if the say you're dr shopping. IDK if i should tell him im looking elsewhere first or try to visit with another dr and explain my situation and see if im a better fit with another dr. But how if they communicate when u reach out? And is there a rule of 120 suboxone for medicaid patients? Im starting to feel id be better off w/ out medicaid b/c they seem to discriminate when you're a medicaid pain patient. Any thoughts?

Ashley,

Dr. Jonathan Clapp, he specializes in spine pain at Colorado Pain Consultants. Talk to the front desk. You have to send over an info release to the doc that diagnosed as well as any doctor that TREATED (vs a consult) you in the past 6 months. Have them fax CPC a referral, doc notes and x-rays. Once that's received he will review within 24 hours and decide if he can treat you and then Mary Beth. (I think that's her name) will call you and go from there. No suboxone and no prior drug abuse/released from pain program. If you're clear there he's really good.

I'm in total loss right now feel like the doctors I go see don't wanna help me one doc actually forgot about me for 45 mins and went home. I need referrals for pain management. I broke my c6 in a lot of pain, weakness, confusion. Have a concussion and bleeding in the brain. They seem afraid to prescribe me what helps. I've tried a lot and they keep throwing me around and I'm sick of running all around Denver to get help. I just need something to help with pain well I go through the recovery process. I just don't know who to go to anymore any help is appreciated thank you

Vin we were all shocked and saddened to hear of Micah's passing. Unfortunately, we ONLY knew him virtually. If he was your best friend as you stated, and you saw he was taking excess meds it might have been a good idea to do an intervention of some type to get him some help. We would have no way of knowing what he was doing physically only what he chose to share with us online.

Fuzzy
I posted by it hasn't shown up yet, sum it up, report it, they inventory and they may make good on it.

Fuzzy, if it's a controlled substance level 2 or lower you MUST fill 100% if the script within 3 days or you lose the portion you were shorted. It doesn't matter if it was the pharmacy's fault of yours. 1 pill or 90% of the script. The dr would have to write a 2nd script for those lost. I'd get on that like a shirt on a sweaty farmer!

Fuzzy,

Haven't used but have heard of the new high tech digital less mistakes prescription plan. 15 short, wow!! I don't know what they can do except perhaps what they do behind the counter at the pharmacy. He needs to report it, they make a count of what they have remaining. The remaining and what was sold should equal what they started the day with. Report it and see what happens.

Fuzzy,
DO REPORT IT!!!! It's very important that u do!! There have been MANY delivery programs put in place, which are delivered through many hands, many of which are not bonded or even employees of a pharmacy! You do need to know that the medications probably won't be replaced and they do report these issues and it's how they decide to use these programs or not!
I was delivered medication by someone who didn't even work for the pharmacy or was bonded, in an open bag and over 50% of my medication was missing! I did report this issue as you can imagine, I had a very tough month but it was enough for them to change their manner in which they delivered!
Sometimes as pain patients we feel chastised and are careful about what we say or don't say because we think that they will think we are lying. We are normal humans that have terrible issues and the more we keep our mouths shut, the more we allow people to take advantage of us!
Please, do write or tell them! It's illegal!

Vin... I'm sorry that you lost your best friend. We were all shocked... Micah was a great guy and brought many of us together in a true support group. I understand that you are angry, but I can guarantee that none of us gave him the ability to find a doctor who would give him unlimited quantities of meds. It's just not possible in Colorado because of the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program. Everything is strictly controlled by the drs, pharmacies, and insurances. Again, I'm sorry that you are hurting, I'm sorry for the loss of Micah, but please, do not come here and place blame on a group of people who have truly worked to support each other in positive ways. Also, the mods on this site are pretty stringent: if there was anything bad going on, they'd put a stop to it immediately. Try to do something positive with your anger and outrage. Peace.

Hey everyone, just wanted to say hi and see how everyone is doing. I was so sad to hear about Micah's passing, I do keep in touch with MtnGrl on FB and that's about it. I plan on posting more again, I hope everyone is doing okay!

OT, but my husband has a prescription for 10mg Percocet and they refilled it digitally this past month as part of a new "trusted" program, has anyone else had this? He gets 75 a month but he was short 15. He didn't call the pharmacy because he thought they would think he was lying (how could you prove that anyway) just curious if anyone experienced this before!

Susie I didn't take it well either and then I got a pic on fb from my BFF. She does have a problem with her ADHD meds and while they won't kill you they have made a very real medical issue even more complicated. So many (her husband) refuse to accept that mental health and physical health are one in the same. Like our pain it's invisible for the most part. I instantly had a small drop of where Vin was coming from. She's family, a sister that replaced my biological sisters. If I lost her to medication I would have been way more vocal than Vin. My heart and non-functioning tear ducts weep for our loss.

The battles we fight are illusive for they're invisible, they rely on perception as a gauge for tolerance in dosage as well as pain level. Our different ailments can be hard to diagnose, and most if not all treatments have a high probability of dependence. This doesn't even touch on the possible abuse factor. How can I expect Vin to be calm when in all likelihood he's not in chronic pain from chronic disease or injury and there are days I question myself and the treatment choices I've made. All I know is that Janey was right on in her post and I hope we can help each other get through this, Vin included.

Janeygirl,
You are so kind. As sarah said, you are a voice of reason. I didn't react as well to vin898 post, so decided not to respond. As you said, we are all very sad to have this happen to Mac.

Thanks Janey. I replied to Vin too...it's been held in admin for the day. Once again you're a voice of reason in unreasonable situations. Xoxo

Vin,
I think I speak for the whole forum when I say Mac's death deeply affected all of us!
I think it also gives us the opportunity to discuss a responsibility that we should have to one another! To refer people to responsible law-abiding doctor's. Not to doctor's or clinics that just give people what they want! As much as a group we complain about new regulations and doctor's offices most are trying to protect us!
This topic is very close and dear to me and as many of you that have been here for a long time will remember, I actually stopped participating with the group when folks dosages and what doctor would provide what type of medication and how much was given by whom occurred! I was pretty vocal, as I saw this as drug seeking behavior and said so!
I was upset by the posts as I had just lost a friend that was 20 years old! She was given a large amount of medications from multiple doctors, fell asleep on her best friends lap to watch a movie, never to wake up again. Like you Vin, it made me sick to see people act like it was a game of who could get more meds.
As hard as it is to respond to Vin's post, it serves to remind each and everyone of us that only we control what we take. We take these medications because of horrible diseases and injuries that allow us to live somewhat a normal life. As much as we help to provide names of doctors that we know that function within regulations, we need to remember these medications can and do kill. Please, as bad as a day can be or although you have taken more before, dont. Your body may not be used to it.
Additionally, don't give out names of doctor's that "bend" the rules. Be responsible to others, if folks want to know what your doctor gives you or you know someone has been to multiple doctor's, help them out and ask before you just answer their questions.
All I'm asking is we post information of responsible professionals. We can't change the past but we can make a difference in the future. We can't change what someone personally does or the choices they make but let's help folks to make good decisions.
Vin, We dearly miss Mac! I'm sorry if you feel someone here gave out a list with irresponsible doctors on it. Sharing your side helps all of us and we thank you for that!

Vin, I am so sorry for your loss. We were all very fond of Micah. We are all here, not to find a doctor that will give us pills, but to find the right pain management system for each of us. Meds are just 1 part of a mosaic of things that come together in an effort to live a normal life. Thanks to Micah a group of us have been able to find the support we need. We also have been able to weed out the drug abusers. Please know that we all look forward to a time that we are healed enough to be medication free. Or for someone like me a cure for a disease that causes permanent deformities and pain. If there is anything we can do, even just lending an ear, please let us know. My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

Vin898 1st and 4 most we all are very upset and shocked over mac686 we are feel sad hurt upset BUT HE STARTED this forum ok so before you come on here bashin and blaming us get it rite cuz he has touch us all and we all had are on moments with him and he help us all in very way he could. Dont come on here trying to push us over ain't gonna work MAC was grown and had been on pain meds longer then some of us have. He knew the risk of taking the meds he was on I dont believe Mac would take too many, he was very responsible and took them how he was suppose 2 with all my talks with Mac or see in him he never looked or act like he was over doing his meds. He had been on those meds for years he say he knew the meds that work 4 him and had the dr give him wat he had always been on. If u were so close to him like u say then MAYBE U SHLD OF QUESTION Mac yourself instead of blaming us. Most of us here only talked with him threw email or this site. I think blaming us on here is nt going to help. If he was over medicating on nt tryin to speak with his dr its not our fault PERIOD...if Mac was abusing like u say it was his choice nt us he found this site in other to help others who cldnt find a dr who understood pain management.. I understand how u feel cuz my brother OD but blaming us isn't the answer if u or any of his family friends thought he was then 1 of them shld of talked with him. We on this site are nt bad ppl we are treated diff from regular ppl cuz we are pain management ppl we get enough B******* from drs ppl anyway we dnt need it from you. Chatty, You r so sweet! U guys r all the greatest!
Lucy, Yes, CPR does use Charles and in speaking with others, you don't HAVE to! If you have a specific reason why u don't want to use them and have been consistent with your program, they do allow u to go to your own pharmacy! They r reasonable folks and just talk with them!
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
