Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 11)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

Just so u know kati has left and went to a different office she is doing interventional pain management with some other dr and the new pa kind of has that god complex and is trying to change meds without discussing it with dr. May or anything but just have to remind her what kati and you have as a plan that is working or have her call kati. She didn't change me but almost tried till she seen and heard that mine can't be changed but then said that I should try to cut them in half since I am young just fyi for u mac since u are younger than me she might say or try something. Just speak up and it should be ok.

Oh I'm incredibly opinionated when I need to be. I'm not lowering anything. if anything I'm getting one more methadone. But thank you very much for the heads up Tam. I've never once ever had an issue with meds and I'm doing EVERYTHING I can short of surgery to help my back. Acupuncture, chiropractic, inversion/decompression therapy, physical therapy, and I'm even trying si joint injections on tuesday but I'm not going to tell her that cuz many doctors think if you get an injection even if it doesn't help with pain that meds should be lowered.

Who is the Dr? I've been stabilized for 3 years on a program. My Dr due to all these new rules decided not to do pain management any longer. Everyone I've contacted does "intervential pain management", I've done years of that with no results. Taking my meds has given me my life back! I'm back to work, enjoying life and able to live. I keep getting referral's to different Dr's now I'm afraid I'll look like I'm Dr shopping.I'm just trying to find a Dr who will take me as a patient. Would appreciate any help!

Don't worry about looking like dr. Shopping you are being referred and not getting multiple scripts for pain meds from different doctors at the same time so you are ok on that. And its colorado pain relief in wheatridge. Hope you get things in control and find the right doctor.

I didn't think so either! It isn't the Dr's that are an
Issue! It was the pharmacy! They told me that because
There were three different Dr's who wrote for me
That I would b "red flagged"! My regular Dr wrote
My regular script, the referral wrote the second and when still unable to get an appointment his partner wrote the third! I couldn't believe this! I had an appointment with a reputable Dr, was informed I might have to pay for the visit because my insurance might not cover! I stated it wouldn't b an issue, I could always put the charges into the insurance company myself! I get to the appointment only to find out they didn't take checks! I never expected such problems finding a good Dr! It seems like there are thousands out there but there aren't! Tried your referral, thanks so much! Awaiting a call back!

I knw what your going thru janey girl. It really sux we have to jump thru hoops Becouse of all these people who abuse the system for a habit. It really makes it hard for us the people how really need em. Mac and Tammy have been really help full in pointing me in the right direction. Like you said there is thousands of dr's out there but really hard to find a good 1 that really understands what u are going thru. I gave CPR a call and they seem really helpful. There just waiting on my records do I can get an appt. I'll let u knw how it goes once I see the doc. Just keep your head up you will find the rite doc for u.

Thank u so much for your encouragement! It's just frustrating to b back to a "normal" life, I still live with a pain level of 4 but back to work, enjoying life! I've jumped through so many hoops I'm dizzy! I can't afford to go through withdrawal, I have a defibrillator and if my potassium gets too low, I'll arrest! I never
Imagined finding a new Dr would b so hard but now I understand his frustration and although he loved his pain patients and seeing them functional why he doesn't want to risk his license either! I read an article in the Post regarding Colorado being "too easy" to get narcotics and now they are feeling "they went too far"! Do u think?

I feel as though the DEA kind of stepped in and gave regulations to be followed and that on top of all the pill junkie "seekers" doctors are just having to rethink who they treat and how they treat them.

There should be regulations but it should be to new patients not the ones who have the records and tests to back it up and have already been through the hoops. I am tired of the pill seekers and junkies keeping people in real pain from relief.

Yeah I think Mac is right the DEA steped in Becouse of the ones how abouse it to get there fix. It just makes it really hard for the ones how really need the meds for true pain and realef. Like I was telling Mac I have a wife and 4 kids so it's hard to not have a normal life with them with out my meds. I understand the DEA has to do what they have to do but like Tammy said they shouldint treat the ones that have been on them and have proof. If CPR don't work out for you don't give up u will find the right doc for you.

I have literally tried every Dr in the lists. Only to find that most only do "interventional medicine"! I have issues that make these interventions impossible! I finally saw a "pain dr" today who without examining me decided it was ok to decrease my medications, ones that have made me functional for 4 years! I am disappointed at best, he seemed very compassionate but I've been dealing with these issues since 1992! Why when I'm functional, never had a "dirty" ua do they feel after meeting u for 15 minutes that u need to change what's worked! This whole experience has been a nightmare at best!

Dr. May is compationate and if ur meds worked why change it is his concept. Unless you just want the oxy ir you have to be on a long acting also now according to the dea but if your meds are long acting with a breakthrough then you will be ok with them. Like I said they are in wheatridge and its colorado pain relief. Hopefully they can help you just give them a call and they have a website also I think its cpr.com look at it and you can even download the new patient packet
So then it is all filled out when you go for your appointment and have your records already sent there or bring them along with a mri if you have one.

I unfortunately didn't get to see Dr May! Because of timing interest, I saw a different MD! Looking over my records he stated that I very clearly was "justified" taking the medications that I do and obviously am extremely functional, in the same breath he stated he wanted to "wean" me and do some interventional techniques to truly see what we are dealing with! I feel like its nothing but a money issue! Why pay your Dr visit when he can make more money doing injections and such! I have a cardiac arrest history due to a medical mistake and question after dealing with this for over 10 years, gotten my life back, not having it run by Dr appointments, treatments and such, why make folks loose their function all over again! I'm making an appointment with Dr May and do as I've always done, walk the straight and narrow and live my life! Just frustrating, should have joined this forum sooner! It is awesome! Many are right, a few bad eggs sure do spoil it for folks that need the help!

Dr. May has a new PA. KAti McDonald isn't there anymore and I haven't met the new one but I've heard she's a little more strict but I have an appt on Thursday so if it's with her I'll let everyone know how it goes with her. But if she seems ok with me and my meds then I wouldn't worry about ONLY getting an appt with Dr. May.
