Doctors Who Prescribe Pain Killers In Philadelphia (Page 62)

Updated

Hi,

My current doctor has decided that it would be best to stop my monthly prescription for 30mg percocets. I have chronic back pain from skiing injuries and other sports related problems. I have never abused or taken more than was suggested. I never got "high" and was always able to work and interact with clients in a positive way. Now without the medication, the pain is becoming a distraction. Does anyone know a doctor who isn't scared to prescribe common pain killers. They are produced for a reason, but recent uptake in illegal abuse has made doctors uneasy with long term prescriptions? I live in the Philadelphia area (main line) but I am familiar with the greater Philadelphia metro area. Thank you and kind regards.

You get script you go to pharmacy the ins. Pays now the clock ticks and you can't double dip or go to another doc to get another one (not saying you but it's what goes on) the paper trail stops all that, paying cash illiminates one of those safe guards guess which one yup multiple docs cause you can get multiple scripts and if the pharm takes cash which they do you now get to double dip there for the no ins no see clause

I have an extreme case of anxiety and ptsd. I really need to find a psych that will prescribe me xanax. This is the only medicine that makes me feel calm and normal. I am terrified of the unknown of people! Can someone link me to a doc that takes Health Partners insur.

Where are you located? Are you in Philadelphia? There's a place called Belmont Behavioral Health and they're pretty quick with giving a script for meds. Do you have proof that's what you've been taking?

Hi to everyone suffering here on this forum, I'm a 62-year-old woman, I've been living with pain since I was a child. I wasn't diagnosed until the 90's. After extensive blood work, I was diagnosed with Chronic Lyme Disease, and Chronic Lyme Arthritis, by an infectious disease specialist in NYC. I still see this doctor, and she writes some basic prescriptions for me. Years ago she was able to prescribe medications for me to treat my pain, but unfortunately, in the last ten years she has not been able to do so. She has tried to help me find a Pain Management M.D., but many Drs. aren't willing to take a patient as complicated as I am. I worked as a nurse, when I was younger, back then we did a great deal of lifting when caring for our patients. I've been disabled since 2009, I have Degenerative Disc Disease, Spondylosis, every joint in my body is inflamed and swollen. Recently the joints in some of my fingers have started to swell and are becoming "bent." I've always thought that I must have some other underlying conditions. My doctor does very detailed blood work, she looks for things that most other doctors never would. My bloodwork has shown my ANA to be elevated, she feels there is a possibility that I have Systemic Lupus, I also have Plaque Psoriasis, there's a possibility that the joint pain could be caused by either or both of these conditions, Psoriatic Arthritis. Many times there is an overlapping of symptoms in these illnesses, also there's a possibility of RA.

For the last several years I've been on OxyContin and Oxycodone even being on these meds often there are days I still live in excruciating pain. The Pain Management M.D. I was seeing was one of the best, he was recommended by my doctor in NYC. He is the leading PM dr. in the country, he was kind, understanding and very caring. I drove over 2 hours each way to see him in New Jersey, then, he moved to Philadelphia, that was a 3 hour (each way) drive, I still went to him, if he thought my medications should be changed, increased or decreased, he always did the right thing for ALL of his patients. Unfortunately out of nowhere, I received a letter from the hospital where his office was, stating that "they would no longer have a Pain Management Center". All of us were sent our prescriptions in the mail, a 30 day supply, after that we had to find our own P.M. Drs., they gave us a list of recommendations. I didn't know what to do, the medication that I take at least allows me to function, on most days and we all need to function! I have two adult children- both married and my husband and I have four wonderful grandchildren, that we try to spend as much time as we can with. I decided to return to the hospital where my wonderful Pain Management Dr. had previously been in New Jersey. The doctor that I see now is nothing like my other very compassionate dr. I've been making the very long drive, a 2 hour drive each way- every month now for almost a year. This P.M. doctor doesn't care about me or my swollen joints or that some of the joints of my fingers are now bent, within only one month this has occurred. He doesn't make eye contact, or look up when I attempt to show him a swollen, bent joint. I have Medicare, and the enrollment period is almost here for those that are 65, or older, or are disabled. So, I'll be able to purchase a secondary health insurance plan very soon. Perhaps this may be the problem, once I have an additional health insurance plan, I'll know.

I live in Pennsylvania, in my area there have been so many people that have overdosed, on opiates, and so many people are drug seekers, that doctors where I live have turned many good, decent people away- including me. I don't look like a drug addict, I dress well, as I always have. I'm quite sure I've been turned away because I only have Medicare, and no other insurance at this time. I was told by a representative from Medicare that it is illegal for a dr. to turn anyone away that has Medicare, the problem is, the dr's. are paid 80% of the bills submitted to Medicare. I was told this by the office manager of a P.M. doctor that I recently called. This dr. is only 15 minutes from my house. Two months ago my current P.M. dr. asked me for a urine spec., of course I complied. At last month's visit, my dr. told me the results of my U/A show my opioid level were "too high." I asked him for a copy to see my "levels" for myself. I always ask for copies of all the results of bloodwork, U/A, MRI's etc., that the dr. has ordered. The dr. completely ignored my request, and did not ask anyone on his staff to see that I receive a copy of my results. This dr. has the benefit of my drug panel results of this 'supposedly' very incriminating U/A. in his possession and I do not. The dr. then used my "elevated opioid level" as an excuse to lower my dosage of the medication I've been taking for break through pain. Quite frankly, I feel this was the plan all along, ask the patient for a urine specimen, then inform the patient, by whatever you'll need to say, such as "your opiate levels are too high", then, prescribe a lower dose...more than likely this is just the beginning of this dr.'s attempt to remove as much of the medications I've been prescribed for years, as he possibly can, from me.

I will ask the NP's, and every other person in that office for a copy of my U/A results. If no one gives me a copy, I will go to the office manager, and inform her, if she doesn't do the right thing, then I will have no choice, but to go to the hospital administrator, to inform them of my situation. I was on 15 mgs. Oxycodone, every 8 hours, as needed, which is three tablets each day. I also take 80 mgs. OxyContin ER, every eight hours, 1 tablet, 3 times per/day. For my break through pain, after the U/A results, he decided to lower my dose and prescribe Oxycodone 10 mgs. every 8 hours, as needed. Since he has lowered the amount of Oxycodone by 5 mgs. each, I'm definitely in more pain. Of course the dr. told me "you won't even notice any difference" - He was very wrong. I was diagnosed by my previous Pain Management Dr., as having Chronic Intractable Pain, due to having numerous herniations throughout my cervical, thoracic, lower lumbar, and sacral spine. I have Spondylosis. I live in constant pain that radiates down both my legs, bilaterally into my feet. I have sciatica and peripheral neuropathy, and nerve impingement due to the herniations. Every joint in my body is swollen and painful. I tried to explain to this dr., who had worked with my previous P.M. dr., and knew of his reputation, it had taken a very long time for my previous dr. to figure out exactly the right medication, and the right dosage, he worked very hard to make certain this was the correct amount, that worked for my pain level, for me. However, when a person decides they are determined to not listen to you, there is not much you can do- even when that person is a dr., a Pain Management Dr.

My medications have never given me a feeling of being 'high', I'm able to fully function, and I'm an excellent driver, I don't even have so much as a parking ticket! This is so frustrating, with that being said.... My question is this- is there anyone that lives in North-Eastern Pa., in the Stroudsburg area, and/or perhaps may know of a good P.M. Dr.? I've made so many phone calls, I'm told by the P.M. office receptionists- the gatekeepers- the P.M. dr's only do shots- which I have tried, so many times, but, they just don't work for me. I'm willing to drive, as I'm doing now, if necessary, I can drive down to Philadelphia, or into N.J., N.Y.C., or here in Pa., to Hershey Medical Center, or up to the Scranton area. My husband and I drove all the way to Hermitage, Pa., (a 5 hour drive each way) on the border of Pa. and Ohio, to see a Lyme Literate Doctor, an LLMD, that I heard was wonderful, he only would accept cash, and he only had me using herbs, which unfortunately didn't help me at all. Thank you to any one that was patient enough to read all this, I apologize that it was so long.... Prayers for healing to all of us that suffer...my name is Katia, I hope we can at least find comfort in talking to each other...

Art of Pain on 69th St. in Upper Darby, Pa. They are respectful and fair. They take you seriously so in saying that take them seriously too. Take drugs only prescribed by them because even though they don't tell you, they give U/A's every visit and blood work sometimes. They will only tell you about the bad results when they are about to discharge you. Be careful and good luck.

Hi, u are exactly right. They discharged a lot of people within the last month. They do give out narcotics but to certain people. Dr. Nick that use to work there just got hit by the feds, it's only Dr.Brown and that lady is NASTY. She gave my husband 40 perc 15mg and charged $140 then gave him his discharge papers. Don't go to them, waste of money.
