Doctors Who Prescribe Methadone (Page 11)

I am addicted to strong pain meds and I am tired of having to come off of them, the withdrawal is awful. I went to a urgent care doc and was prescribed suboxone. I take anxiety meds too but he wants me to stop. I really need the anxiety meds but he wants me off them. How do I get him to change it from suboxone to methadone so I can take my anxiety meds?

The proper medication for neuropathy is Lyrica, which they make specifically for it and sometimes I hear Gabapentin works very well for neuropathy, also. I'm not sure why a dr would rx Methadone for that dx.

Hi there. I am not sure where you are located, that makes a difference. Hopefully I can at least provide you with some information.

I am pretty sure your doctor is lying to you. Most of them do lie. For example, many psychiatrists will tell you they can't/won't write Rx's for pain medicine. This is untrue. Their office or company may have a stipulation that they can't write pain medication prescriptions, but they most certainly can write them - they choose not to write them.
So back to you and Methadone. Your doctor certainly can write a prescription for methadone and he can treat you himself, he doesn't want to - he doesn't view it as you wanting help he is viewing it as "you are a headache" to him if he does. You need to stress, seriously stress to him, that you are trying to do everything on the up and up; you aren't on the street (many street people and of lower circumstance use the methadone clinics because that is what is available to them) you have insurance (I am guessing because you went to the doctor). You need to tell him that you are asking him for his help in getting off of the hard opiates and you need his help and understanding not judgment and rejection. If you are truly trying to get off of these meds, you need to let him know that you are attending NA or AA for support. That should be enough to convince him; but by God, don't go in there saying all that unless you are sincere about it; he'll see right through you and know if you are being manipulative or not. Many drug addicts and alcoholics thing that they can get over or they can manipulate and the other person, or the intended, doesn't see them coming. Nothing can be further from the truth. They see you coming, they hear your "suggestions" as masqueraded manipulations and can tell whether or not you are sincere. This is a generalization - not saying you aren't sincere or you are a drug addict, please don't take offense. I am merely trying to point out that sometimes we think we are getting over on people when they see us coming 10 miles away. Good Luck!

Hello,

I know of a doctor in California - who prescribes both Methadone (10 mg tablets) as a pain reliever and also benzodiazepines such as (Klonopin too). He is a nice guy and charges about 120.00 usd for a Methadone script. So about that $1000.00 dollars and I can give you explicit information? Are you still willing to uphold this proposition?

Actually Valium (Diazepam) is a benzodiazepine. However, it hits your GABA receptors, in a very similar way, to alcohol. I have been on Methadone for 7 years at 120mgs per day. Recently, I dosed down to 80mgs. I found a doctor who prescribes in MS and want to get down to 60mgs before I see him. Also, I have been on Klonopin (Clonazepam), also a benzo, for 11 years and it has never caused me trouble in my being able to get methadone. One just has to prove they do not abuse, due to the respiratory danger involved.

THE REASON DOCTORS DON'T LIKE YOU TO TAKE BENZO'S WITH METHADONE IS: THEY ARE BOTH CENTTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM DEPRESSENTS. THE CHANCE OF OVERDOSING IS A RISK DOCTORS DON'T WANT TO TAKE.FOR EXAMPLE: MICHAEL JACKSONS DOCTOR IS IN JAIL FORGIVING HIM WHAT HE WANTED. DOCTORS AREWORRIED ABOUT MALPRACTISE SUITS. I WONDER IF ANY ONE KNOWS A DOCOR THATT TRATS PAIN MANAEMENT WITH METHDONE IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA. AS FAR AAS I KNOW IN VA YOU HAVE TO SEE AN ADDICTIONALOGIST TO GET SUBUTEX AND SUBOXONE( THESE ARE THE CORRECT SPELLINGS FOR THE MEDS.)

He wants you to come off the anxiety meds because there is a huge interaction with the suboxone. Pharmacists are supposed to be on the lookout so that doesn't occur, the combination of suboxone with certain medications, downers and anti-anxiety agents. Be very careful and do not drive. Your best bet is to stop the anti-anxiety meds and not combine them with the suboxone until you can tell the doc you prefer to be on a methadone maintenance but he may think the suboxone the lesser of the two evils. Any time there is mixing of anti-anxiety meds with opiates there is a danger; the anti-anxiety meds are just as addictive, some are even more addictive than the opiates, the combination can be deadly, hence xanax and opiates. I am not a doctor or pharmacist, this is street knowledge gained through experience.

I had a Dr writing 200 Mg. Of methadone, 30 Mg of oxycodone, 3Mg. Of klonopin ,10 Mg. Of ambian 60 mg. Of adderol, and 150 Mg. Of trazodone per day for 6 years but cut me loose 20 days ago i can find everything but methadone and klonopin which lasts longer than other benzos, like 12 hours. I really don't care about Klo. Traz. will put u to sleep like a baby. The new DEA rules suck. Can you say tolerance, none of them feel euphoric, THAT'S NOT MY GOAL, BUT THEY DO THEIR JOB. THE PROBLEM IS PEOPLE SELL THEIR MEDS. That's why people who need them can't get them, even older people sell them to supplement their income!! It's tragic, people feed off of others pain!! I consider it taking food money away from children. I would never sell anything. I'm way too attractive for prison, just kidding.The man upstairs sees all, I'm a Christian. Good luck from S.C. there is a huge problem down here, my pharmacies window was busted out 3 days ago and pharmacies are getting robbed.

No that is not true i have been on anxiety yaking meds 10yrs and methadone 2x first time 3yrs then got back on almost 2yrs ago always taking anxiety meds the clinic i go to dosnt rx them my psychiatrist does i turn i. The copy of my rx to the clinic each month so they know im not taking them illegally an are prescribed. So dont tell ppl false info. Each clinic usually has there own rules as long as they dont see you impared everyday both clinics iv been on never gave me trouble.

Hi I recently moved to south Fla. I have been taking Methadone HCL for 10 years for my back pain. I have a doctor in New York who will prescribe them for me. I cant drive 1300 miles to see him, Does anyone know of a Dr. near Delray Beach who will prescribe them for me ? I am not an addict, they just ease my pain. Thanks

If you want to be subscribed Methadone by a general practitioner type of doctor or without going to a clinic everyday then I suggest you go to a "Pain Clinic" where the staff specialize in chronic pain issues. Whether you have an issue with pain or not is not the point; this is just the how you get your foot into the door. Take 2-3 sessions before you tell them you have a high opiate tolerance; let the staff provide whatever medications are the flavor of the month. After 2-3 months of treatment then try to bring up the issue that the received "treatments" are not effective in controlling your chronic pain. Suggest methadone or Subtext. If the staff thinks you're a drug addict then you're most likely going to be 86'd, otherwise if they believe your story about chronic pain conditions (do some internet research about the use of methadone to treat chronic pain because any licensed doctor can prescribe methadone however it has to be for the treatment of pain as opposed to opiate addiction.)

Oh Babe, I feel for you. I really do. I gather, from your post that you suffer from pain and the meds were useful in combating that pain that is why you aren't necessarily looking for euphoria, although it helps. I know, me too. I know guy who just uses but was on suboxone for quite awhile. He mixed it with Klonopin, Xanax, etc... and it gave him a really good opiate-type feeling (nodding off too) and it takes just a very small amount of the suboxone. I don't know how it does for pain but it is very long acting. You will have to be off of opiates for 24 hours before you can take the suboxone from what I understand - I don't know for sure. If you go this route, let me know how you do. Yeah, people who are up to no good make it hard for the people who really need it and out of desperation, we end up, up to no good. Good God! I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY those WHO are in PAIN and REQUIRE PAIN MEDS NEED to GO to a PAIN DOCTOR or PAIN CLINIC. You are not going to get them any other way from a general practitioner unless you live in a rural area. It is not going to happen or if it does, not for long they will want to pass you off to a pain doctor. They don't want the responsibility and the headache of dealing with people running out of meds, losing their meds, not having enough meds, etc... as opiate addiction run prevalent with pain sufferers. The people who abuse meds RUIN for the people who actually need the meds. So if you want to blame anyone, blame the people who abuse who don't have legitimate reasons for pain meds. So if you need a pain doctor, look in the phone book or online or ask around. Most likely with a pain doctor you will be required to submit frequent drug panels and be required to sign a pain contract prohibiting you from getting prescriptions from another doctor at any time or it voids the contract. Of course if you are in an accident and sent to the emergency room and they have to give you meds, of course that doesn't count against you or surgery but you can not get the prescription filled from the surgeon without expressed consent from the doctor you have signed the contract. Alternatively, he can increase the number of meds temporarily during your healing time after the surgery.
