Nikki, I've been reading your posts and tried a doctor that was considered one of the top 10 prescribers for pain medications in PA after googling which doctor prescribes medications and NOT GIVES BACK INJ'S., (won't mention which pain meds and location of the doctor). Well I left the office pissed cause he decreased my dosage and pill amount, he prescribed me 10mg and only 45 tablets and the doctor I use to see prescribed me 15mgs and 150 tablets for the last 3 1/2 years and now that office closed cause the PA had to move out of state. These pain doctors are so frustrating now a days. Decreasing the dosage and pill amount will cause withdrawals. I wanted to call this doctor a complete oblivious *****! Anyhow, I live in South Central Pennsylvania and would like to know if you (or Carmine) have any suggestions on a GOOD HELPING UNDERSTANDING PAIN MANAGEMENT DOCTOR? Medications are the only thing that helps so I can continue to work at my job. Thanks if you can help...

Does anyone have any experience with Urgent Care type clinics? I'm currently starting from scratch and during my research on their website, they seem to offer pain management services. I'm thinking about trying it out, but haven't decided. Either that or starting with a new primary care doctor (hopefully more testing). Also curious as to how much a co-pay might be for a clinic. If anyone has any personal experience, it'd be appreciated.

Hi All, hopefully found some good info here , so thank u for that. My story; i have spinal stenosis, fibromyalgia, no cartilage in my knee, herniated discs and something new going on in my neck & shoulders. Have been w/ pain mngt for 8 years, unfortunately my NJ pain dr lost his licence 9/2016 for whatever reason..his staff said DEA would not allow him to give referrals-which is BS & inhumane!! I was forced to go to suboxone dr, been on sub for 7 months, it did help with my pain some, but now im on such a low dose & my pain in in full force. Cant stay on sub forever says Dr, and i really dont want to bc i dont get as much relief as i did w pain mangt. All i do is lay around bc i feel horrible.....depression is really started to get bad....sigh. going to try some of the info found on this forum. I live in Stroudsburg & have no problem traveling to WB/Scranton or Allentown area. Also not sure how to get all my records from previous Dr hes just gone! Thanks for reading my saga amd god bless us all.

I feel ya Tara. The depressing cause by chronic pain is awful. I'm a shell of who I was. I suffer through work for 8 hours, and by the time I'm done, I'm so physically/mentally/exhausted that all I want to do is lay down. I'm hoping to find a solution soon. It's awful living like this.

I'm so sorry to here about your husband. My mother got ovarian cancer at the age of 47. She suffered terribly and passed away unfortunately 18 1/2 years ago in my arms. I know how your feeling & what you are going through. I know a great doctor that you can go to. It is not the doctor my mother went to but my dad did and he is doing great. His name is Dr. Arthur Myers & He is located at the Henry Cancer Center at Geisinger Hospital in plains , PA

Hi Swish, have u ever been treated by pain management meds? They are a life saver, literally! Unfortunately so many have been a victim to major addiction. I took my meds responsibly. But i believe my Dr turned out to be crooked influenced by the money in it. I had no choice but to go on suboxone treatment otherwise my body would have went into opiate withdrawal (been on opiates 8 plus years). Drs are scared to write narcotics anymore and its very unfair to patients that truly/medically need the meds for quality of life. I want to find another pain management Dr but refuse to call every Dr in the area looking for one that will write opiates. That just seems crazy to me. My PCP Dr knows whats going on with me and I have an appt with her next week, hopefully she will refer me. I'm on a very low dose of sub, now it doesn't help the pain in my joints, fingers, back or knee. Are u seeing a Dr now for ur condition? Are u looking for 1? What area do u live? Wishing u well.

Hey Tara,

I used to go to pain management about 4-5 years back. Did meds, spinal injections, all of that fun stuff. I'm in the Scranton area. I just haven't been back to a doctor in a few years. I think the pain coupled with my anxiety has just caused me to feel helpless. When you have different doctors/chiros giving you conflicting opinions, it gets super frustrating. Tried a new PCP back then, but the office was extremely unorganized and the Dr. just seemed like he had no interest in helping me. Said he "wasn't allowed" to look at my most recent MRI at the time. That was a first. Ever since, I've just been dealing with it on my own. So defeating though. I've just felt very depressed and helpless. It's affected me not just physically, but emotionally, mentally, socially. I know the simple answer is "Go to a Dr." but I guess I've just been feeling like I will not get the help I need. I'm sure I need to be back in a pain management setting at some point, as most doctors won't prescribe pain meds for those who are actually suffering. Then you have people who get them, and they sell their meds. I've been dealing with this pain in some form for about 10-12 years, and I'm young. It's started to spread into my upper back/shoulder, and has gotten progressively worse rather quickly over the past few months. I know I need to get back to a doctor for another opinion, just feel like I'm playing roulette with actually finding one who will show compassion and help me get on the right track to treating my pain. I could go on forever about my experiences with doctors, my symptoms/diagnosis, etc. I see you mentioned you have an appt coming up? I hope that goes well for you. Living in pain is no way to live. It's a shame, and wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy.

Hi Nikki,
I know the deal with how scary it is to give others ut pain mngt dr info, trust me i get it. I usually dont give my dr info out either i have had 2 pain Dr in the last 8 years and they BOTH shut down, not sure if it was them getting greedy or some of yhe suspect patients they treated, either way it stinks. I was put on a position of desperation & went to a suboxone Dr... ( another story id love to share if anyone wants to know) now after completed the sub program (which was a painful struggle) I feel the best thing for me & my quality of life is to do Pain Mangt again. I live in the Stroudsburg Pa area & there is such an epidemic of opiate abuse that finding a honest pain dr has its challenges. I have several ligit diagnoses that does require pain mngt. Anyway best of luck to everyone dealing with all of this...my heart goes out 2 u. Any suggestions would be helpful & extremely grateful. Thanks for listening ??

Don't worry Carmine I'm not sharing our doctors info, I am going to give my old doctor's info because he was a help to me, up until he threw me out, which was half my fault for not showing up for the pill count, although I just started a new job and he didn't give me adequate time and expected me to be at the office in an hour, which wasn't possible. How have you been doing by the way?

And Swish3, you may want to look into Dr Kurt Moran in Scranton. I was seeing him for a few years and besides getting inj's. in my trigger points I was on 2 different types of pain medication. He will give you what you want/need as long as you follow the rules of the practice. He does do random U/A's and does call random pill counts, but as long as you are following the rules, you will make out good at his practice!

Tara, I know a few people who go to Dr Beth Cohen for pain management and get prescribed pain meds as long as they attend physical therapy and have legit records and copies of a recent MRI. I also know someone who goes to the Comprehensive Pain Center on Tilghman street in allentown, and there a few pain mgmt clinics in east brown street near the hospital. I personally never went to a doctor there for pain since it's about a 45 minute drive for me but if I ever had too, I would. From what my buddies say it's fairly easy to find a dr in the stroudsburg/Allentown area that will write scripts for pain meds. Good luck in your search. There is also a website called ProPublica that will tell you which doctor in your area prescribe the most meds of whatever you were on or feel you need, you may want to check that out as well. I will say that anymore when doctors write script they do require some form of physical therapy or other kind of care as well, which sometimes helps and sometimes doesn't, but I guess it's the price we have to pay for some relief!
