Doc Shorted Me On Opana, Told Me To Stretch

I recently had my second back surgery, a double fusion. I was on fentanyl for months and did fine but the patches never stook so I asked to switch. Doc put me on Opana ER twice/day then doubled to 40 mg twice with Perocet 10 every 6-8 hrs for breakthrough pain. He then lowered the Oxy to just three times a day. Haven't seen but realized they rescheduled my appt and I'd be out on Friday (tomorrow) and I don't see until Mon. I asked if I could get enough to hold me over and thru said after like four calls and no reply to just stretch it. I'm freaking out bc I have 6 Oxy left, I took more than three a day (told them wasn't working) and have cut the two 40s I had (I took a couple extra at the start of the month before I filled my Oxy) into pieces. I've been stretching those to 15 hours but am in severe pain. He was supposed to switch me to Dilaudid but anyway, I have four pieces left, maybe they are 10 mg? I see him Mon morning. I can't go thru w/d again I'd rather DIE. Happened when my patches fell off, twice. I hate these drugs! I hate the pain and how this doc controls my life, he's an hour from me and I have epilepsy so can't drive. Question is how soon will the w/d kick in? I've taken some old Norco today even tho they said before not to, I'm desperate and don't abuse just am in pain! He told me at last visit just to come by to pick up script now I can't even talk to him. Plz help I don't want to w/d I might hurt myself it's that bad.

Hello, Tracyl! How are you doing? I am very sorry about the problems that you're having.

Why didn't you use something else to help the patches stay on? There are some tapes and covers that can safely be used with them.

And as to telling you to stretch them out, yes, that is normal. They can't prescribe medications like this without you actually seeing the doctor and your pharmacy will also require the actual prescription from your doctor, they can't accept one for these via fax. This isn't shorting you either, by the way.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

I know I have to have an actual paper prescription, which is why I asked if I could pick one up to see me through the weekend since at my last visit he had written for a month but later they called and rescheduled my appointment, which is why I was going to be short. Most months he lets me just pick up a prescription if I'm ok. Anyway I made it through the weekend but it was unpleasant and painful. I did use Tegaderm to keep my patches on before, but I still had skin broken down. However since it has cleared up, I asked if I could switch back...really don't like Opana! He agreed so I'm back on 75 mcg/2 days, but my pain is really bad, like right after surgery bad. Unsure if I hurt something during a seizure again (I have epilepsy). Going to check with my surgeon as I'm do for a follow-up to start PT. Thanks for your reply. I really hate this pain and med merry go round. I wish I could just stop them but I can barely walk ON them, hate to think how I would be without, though maybe I'd adjust???
