Developed Allergy To Eemt, Don't Want To Stop Taking It.

Updated

Help. Afraid to ask doc, will probably want me to stop EEMT. I'm 69, feeling great, love the heightened libido, which I attribute to the continued use of Estratest / EEMT. Had a lot of trouble getting my last Rx, but it is still on the market, through ANI pharmacueticals. Have been taking it about 15 yrs. But now, have developed a rash, base of spine and nape of neck. Rash not too bad, itching horrid. Noticed that during the 5 - 7 days it is not taken in the cycle, rash starts to go away. Talked to pharmacist. No solution. Told me that Dr's are no longer prescribing estrogens due to all the warnings. Talked to ANI customer service. No solution, other than discuss with Doc. Maybe suggest the HS instead, but I don't want to lose all the benefits I have enjoyed with this medication over the years. Not sure what to do until Appointment next week. Maybe just 1 pill every other day 'till then ?

Hello, Kate! How are you?

There is a chance that it might not be an allergy, so you should have this checked out. Shingles and several other skin conditions can all manifest like this.

Have you eaten anything new? Did you have the Shingles vaccine? Have you used any new soaps or detergents?

However, if it is an allergy, they tend to get worse with repeated exposure, so you can't just continue ingesting the allergen, because you could be putting yourself in danger. You need to speak to your doctor and have this checked out, as soon as possible.

I may have been wrong about the EEMT. Rash returned even during the no-EEMT days. Also trying a 25 mg. diphenhydramine once at night. (allergy pill, OTC, same as benedryl). This has offered much relief.Which is why I suspect allergy. No luck in eliminating suspect allergens. Made appointment with dermatologist and allergist, about 4-5 weeks away. Glad it wasn't the EEMT.

So am I! Being female, I completely understand why you don't want to have to give it up.

Have you been using anything different, such as a new soap, lotion, laundry detergent?

Household cleaners? Fabric softener?

Has anyone else around used anything new?

I'm just trying to throw some more ideas out there to try and help.

We never did discover what was triggering my hives, they seemed to happen with no rhyme or reason. My fiancé went on a cleaning spree a couple of times and, since he did that, they've not been happening as often.

Maybe mold spores?
I'm just dealing with the 1 allergy pill at night for now. Glad it wasn't the EEMT.

Yes, that is a definite possibility. They do it to me all the time, even just a trace of mold or mildew.

Have you considered having allergy testing done?

Hah. Couldn't get appointment with dermatologist or allergist until December. So made appointment with both. 1 diphenhydramine a day is working very well, only take 1 at night. Gotta be allergy if that's working. Haven't used anything new. Switched to fragrance and additive free detergent 6 weeks ago.
Funny about the dust/mold. Had professional duct cleaning done early this year. No more cough after that.

BTW. Back on the EEMT. No increase in rash/itching.

Yes, if that's working, that's a very good sign that it's an allergy.

Mold is different in dust and it might be growing in places that weren't cleaned, such as in walls and baseboards.

How are you feeling, now?

Feeling great, rash is slowly disappearing. Will still see allergist in Dec.

Great! I'm glad you're doing well!

And I'm fabulous! My fiancé went on a major cleaning binge around here, since I was getting random hives and it really helped. No idea what was causing them, but I'm rarely having a problem, now. :-)

Please keep me updated!

Amazing how the body takes care of itself. I don't have much faith in Doctors. Most forget the hippocratic oath.

I think many also forget that they also don't know your body as well as you do. I've had many argue with me that a certain medication couldn't be causing the problems I was experiencing, but of course, I was always right.

I didn't start doing well, until I found doctors that actually listened to me.

Ha ha. No allergies there. May have to move. Maybe the booze cures everything.
