I am starting chemo therapy tomorrow for breast cancer. I was perscribed Dexamethason 4mg tab roxane. I take two in the morning and two in the evening the day before, the day of and the day after. The information sheet that came with the prescription says if you take it for a long periond of time stopping the medication could cause serious side effects. My instructions are to take it only during the time of the chemo and this is scheduled every three weeks. I am not sure exactly what the purpose of this medication is for or how it is used for the chemo. How does it play a role in my therapy?

Hi there! I actually have no idea how I came upon this site or your question, I clicked wrong I guess but it brought me here. First, I am so sorry that you have to endure Chemotherapy, 2nd This med is an Anti-Inflammatory basically, I would imagine they use it for your Chemo to decrease inflammation caused by the Chemo, and to De-crease your discomfort, BUT, This med also SUPPRESSES your immune system, which Chemo already does, Making it VERY easy to catch anything anyone you have been around has, so I don't know why they chose THIS med for your Chemo, If I were you I would ask my Oncologist why on earth they would give you a med like that during Chemo when your Immune System is already suppressed by the Chemo. I hope I helped a little, just wanted you to know the risk factor of this med while on Chemo.
