Cymgem 30mg Info

I would like to know my daughter as been using Lexamil for 3 years. The doctor subscriped Cymgen to be taken in the evening. She is still using Lexamil in the morning. Is this adviseable. She is only 17 years old.

Have you spoken to her doctor about your concerns?

There can be some risks associated with taking the Escitalopram in the Lexamil with the Duloxetine in the Cymgen, such as hyponatremia and serotonin syndrome.

This doesn't mean they can't both be used, but her doctor should carefully take the dosages under consideration and should be monitoring her on a regular basis.

From what I could gather, these two drugs should not be taken together, as there is an interaction between the active ingredients "escitalopram" and "duloxetine" in each drug. If she is taking one in the morning and one in the evening then it may be ok, but that would be up to her doctor to decide. Taking these drugs together may potentiate the risk of serotonin syndrome, which is a rare but serious and potentially fatal condition thought to result from hyperstimulation of brainstem 5-HT1A and 2A receptors.

"Symptoms of the serotonin syndrome may include mental status changes such as irritability, altered consciousness, confusion, hallucination, and coma; autonomic dysfunction such as tachycardia, hyperthermia, diaphoresis, shivering, blood pressure lability, and mydriasis; neuromuscular abnormalities such as hyperreflexia, myoclonus, tremor, rigidity, and ataxia; and gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea."

In general, it is best for her to go off how she feels and approach it with caution if the potential benefit is deemed to outweigh the risk.

Some precautions for this interaction indicate the following:
Patients should be closely monitored for symptoms of the serotonin syndrome during treatment. Particular caution is advised when increasing the dosages of these agents. The potential risk for serotonin syndrome should be considered even when administering serotonergic agents sequentially, as some agents may demonstrate a prolonged elimination half-life.
