Contraceptive Pill - What Are The Consequences Of Forgetting It?

I am currently taking the contraceptive pill Microlite, as recommended by my gynaecologist due to very painful period pain. However, my memory is terrible and despite having alarms on my phone and leaving the packet in obvious places, forgetting to take the pill has not been an uncommon occurrence. Usually I will forget it that morning and take it that night, but sometimes I leave it too late and it is nessessery to take two at a time as written on the instruction booklet. But here's my real problem: I have gone on a weeks holidays and I have left the pills at home. I am a week into the cycle and without my prescription, I have no way of obtaining more pills, so that's out of the question. Other online resources focus entirely on the sex and contraception aspect of forgetting the pill. I'm not sexually active and I have no intention of becoming so any time soon, so this is irrelevant to me at the moment. I suppose what I really want to know is, Am I seriously screwing myself up? These are hormone supplement pills and if missing them like this is doing serious damage to my body, and especially my reproductive cycle and hormones, should I be talking to my gynaecologist about something else? An implant maybe? Something that doesn't rely on my (terrible) memory? I have no plans for it at the moment, but I do eventually want to have children and I'm worried that misusing the pill like this could cause problems in the future. Please help

Jane, while in the short term you are messing with your body cycle, since these are hormonal based, you aren't doing any permanent damage.

However, yes it would probably be wise to talk to your doctor about an alternative that doesn't require you to remember to take it all the time, because you aren't getting the desired benefits from it this way, either.

Angel, you should take them, but use a back up method of contraception for the next 7 days, until you have taken 7 pills uninterrupted.

Thank you ever so much! I'd gotten quite worried about it (which probably didn't help) so it's a weight off my shoulders. I will talk to my doctor though, my memory is obviously not reliable enough for this! Thanks again
