Concerns About Prescription Of Seroquel

A close friend of mine has been taking Seroquel for about a year now and I think her current dosage is around 400-600mg/day. This drug was prescribed to her to treat anxiety and for sleep issues. I have spent time with her after she has taken this medication and its horrible. She acts like she is drunk. She has almost no short-term memory and forgets things she talked about just moments before. She slurs her words and becomes rather uncoordinated. And she has no recollection of what she said or did the following day. She has developed such a dependency that she is now taking the Seroquel late in the afternoon, is in bed by 7pm and will sleep for 10+ hours. She has tried drugs like Cymbalta and Lyrica with no effect. From what I have researched, prescribing Seroquel for anxiety is rather extreme. I am hoping there might be other alternatives Seroquel. She had tried to decrease her dosage and her doctor has her right back where she was and actually told her she could prescribe up to 800mg/day. This medication is ruining her life, marriage and friendships. Please help

Hello, Karie! How is your friend doing?

That really sounds like she's on too high of a dosage. Those are the doses that are usually used for severe conditions, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.

At those does, without having such severe conditions, the side effects she's experiencing are pretty typical and she may also experience weight changes, dry mouth and headache, as listed by the FDA.

What type of doctor is she seeing? I really think she may need to get a second opinion.

It is at a high dosage should be taken around bed Time and will make her be like a zombie in saying this I took my dosage meant to be at 600 but I can't tolerate more than well I took 125 treating bi-polar 1 but suffer a lot of mania and I also take a mood stabiliser but not cutting it been on this med for 2 weeks been on it when I was younger I can't walk properly slurred speech etc gonna fall asleep any minute
