Clopilet 75 Mg - Discontinuing Treatment

Updated

Hi. I was advised to take Clopilet 75 by one of the doctors when I had a mild chest discomfort. I was later told to stop it after taking it for nearly 4 months as it was causing hyperacidity and TMT was negative.

Please let me know if it is good advice to stop taking it. If stopped, what are the chances of having any heart problems? So far I don't have any heart problems. Thanks.

I'll explain a little, so maybe I can help you understand the associated risks of stopping a medication like this abruptly.

Clopilet contains the active ingredient Clopidogrel, which is used to prevent blood clotting. If you take it for several months and stop it abruptly, there is a chance that it could cause a rebound effect, which means that it could cause your blood to clot too much, which may lead to something such as heart attack or a stroke.

How long ago did you stop taking it?

It really isn't common for the rebound effect to be that severe and dangerous. In most cases, people stop it and never notice a difference, because the change to blood clotting is only slight and just lasts for a short period of time.

Four and half years ago I went to a Cardiologist for a checkup due to my BP being out of control and being a smoker at that time. TMT positive result and echo shows ischemic heart disease. Doctor prescribed Larton 50 mg, Anzigem 30 and Clopilet 75 mg. After one year TMT and Echo results were normal. After that I continued taking the medicine. A month back I had a gastric problem so I went to a Specialist Doctor for a checkup. He prescribed an Anesthetic Anti-Acid for a week. After that, he advised me to stop the Clopilet 75 mg. The same was informed to my Cardiologist. He also advised me to stop the Clopidogrel 75 mg for 6 months. But I have still been taking the tablet for the past four and half years. Even though I had my cardiologist advise me on this, I'm bearing some fear of discontinuing Clopidogrel 75 mg. Awaiting advice please.
