Cilift With Alcohol

Updated

Cilift + alcohol = Madness and unacceptable biopolar behaviour. My husband was diagnosed with chronic depression and anxiety. He is also a alcoholic. Will not stop drinking or even cut down.Obviously the madication is not working!!!! My 3 boys and I have suffered for 13years with this madness and it is getting worse. He drinks six normal beers every night and more if he can get his hands on it. He is has no feelings of responsibility or emotion once he is on a roll and all of us are in the wrong?????? I do not drink. My husband has a lifelong track record of drug and alcohol abuse hence the depression and anxiety which has kicked in at the age of 40 years. What are we to do, he spirals out especially if he does not take the cylift on a regular basis....I cannot always track this as he continues to lie to me, he has many "girlfriends" on facebook which I have just discovered........I am so tired, I have made an appointment for him to see the Doctor, the Doctor has told me that I must not beleive everyhting I read about cylift???????? I am living a daily hell with this man, he is a good man when sober but to get him to that point seems fruitless! he has been in and out of rehab as well. That devil thirst just keeps rearing it's evil head. Please advise

Hi Mary,

Sorry to hear about the challenges you and your husband are facing. After reading your post I'm not sure whether to suggest a divorce or simply a new home for you and your kids. In my honest opinion, your ability to 'put up' with his behavior for so long truly shows class on your part, in so far as staying true to your husband. However if he hasn't even been faithful to you and your relationship and is unwilling to make necessary changes, then I'm sorry to say that it sounds like a dead end street for him and possibly what you two once had together. It's the sad truth of the matter, but alcohol addiction is a one way ticket to a shorter life. Let alone the Cylift withdrawals on top of that.

You may even want to take a look at the list of side effects associated with Cylift (Citalopram), so you can show your husband what it's really doing to him in the long run. From what I've read, "problems with thinking" is actually listed as a serious side effect that should be reported to his doctor immediately. However, you can read more on side effects here:
nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a699001.html#side-effects

Along with alcohol, I can only imagine how disproportionate his thoughts might be at any given moment. So for your own safety and well-being, it's probably wise to make a definite decision sooner than later on what your plans might be farther down the road if he's still hooked on the medication and alcohol. That's just my opinion on the matter. In the end, you may just have to do what's best for you and kids.

I hope this advice helps!

Mary,
I myself have been dealing with the same issues but my is my bf of thirteen years. He is also an alcaholic and will not see a dr as I believe is bipolar. My children and myself walk around on egg shells and put up with verbal abuse . My man also does a six pack a night plus more. I have also recently noticed he has text gfs and was on a internet dating site. claims to have not met any but has very intimate conversations with these women. I was thinking of dragging him to a dr and having him put on these meds that you are discussing since he took them along time ago and seemed to work . I am so sorry you are going thru this as I think we are twins at this point .. My kids are older and just both moved out due to his drinking and being very verbally abusive towards me and them. My kids are girls. I hope to stay in touch with you so that maybe we can help one another out in this awful life we are in and that due to our love and hope of change for these men we stay.
