Chronic Fatigue And Chronic Pain

Updated

I have degenerative arthritis throughout my body. Latest MRI, yesterday. I've had four spinal fusion surgeries starting at the bottom of my spine. I'm scheduled for neck injection next week. I'm 69 years old and my only income is Social Security. I stay so very tired/exhausted all the time with no idea what to do. My pain clinic doctor gave me a prescription for Nuvigi, but my insurance denied it, and my doc said they would also deny Provigil. I have taken a short course of each of these several years ago, and they helped. If anyone has any suggestions for anything that does not require a prescription, I would really appreciate hearing about it. No pity party here, just want to live the life I have left. Thank you.

Hello, Mimi! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem you're having.

Do you know if your insurance will cover an alternative medication, such as Adderall?

You may also want to ask your doctor about whether or not they will cover the Nuvigil with prior authorization. Some insurance plans require it.

The FDA classifies these medication as stimulants, so they carry the risk of being habit forming. They may also cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, irritability and nervousness.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

Thank you so much for replying to my post. My doctor did the authorization after the fact, but they still denied the Nuvigil. I realize that it doesn't help my problem, I also take a daily regimen of Oxycodone 10-5-5-5-10. The 10s are delayed release. I've found out the hard way that the older I get the harder it is to get insurance approval for hardly anything that would help me live a more comfortable/fulfilling life, especially as I now rely on SS and my secondary self-paid insurance. I don't want to get whacked out with any type of drug. Just want to feel well enough to get up and do my housework, etc. each day.
