Changing Pain Meds

I have a torn Labium in my hip, chronic arthritis in my right knee, plus back pain. I'm having surgery soon for my hip (thank goodness). I've been on oxy for 3 years 10/325 and it's not helping any more. Not sure what to do.

Hello, Rose! How are you doing? I'm sorry that you're in pain.

The best thing to do would be to inform the prescribing doctor that it is no longer helping your pain. It is normal to develop a tolerance to a medication that you've taken for a long-period of time and for it to stop working as well, when that happens.

It might be time to move on to a different medication to handle your pain.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

I did talk with my doctor and we're trying a new medine. We changed it to Hydromorph 4mg three times a day. My fear with being on this, is when I have surgery on the 12th it will be extremely difficult to control my surgical pain. Now I feel I should move to a medine that's not so strong. Thanks for your imput.
