I am not a doctor, but I can provide you with some information.

The reason he is feeling weak could be due to his blood pressure being so low, when it's hitting 90/70 this can be too low for some people and can cause symptoms such as feeling weak, dizzy and tired.

While most doctors will tell you the lower your blood pressure the better, this is not completely accurate. There are points where it can be too low and will cause those kinds of symptoms. In addition, when it's too low, your heart has to beat faster and harder to compensate and this can also be dangerous.

I actually just saw my cardiologist and discussed this same issue, yesterday. We had to lower all of my medications, because my blood pressure is dropping far too low.

Carvedilol is a calcium channel blocker, it is often given to help improve heart function and lower blood pressure.

It is not know to cause significant side effects in most people, but when it does, they can include: nausea, stomach pain and dizziness.

Ramipril is an ACE inhibitor that is used to treat the same types of conditions.

It may cause side effects, such as: nausea, drowsiness, headache and stomach pain.

Clavix AS contains the active ingredients Clopidogrel and Aspirin, it is used for its blood thinning properties and to prevent clotting.

Side effects may include: nausea, stomach irritation and increased risk of bleeding.

Amaryl contains the active ingredient Glimepiride, this is an oral antidiabetic medication used to help lower and control blood sugar.

Its side effects can include: nausea, stomach pain, flatulence and low blood sugar.

Flavedon-MR contains the active ingredient Trimetazidine, which is used to treat Angina and irregular heartbeats.

Dytor contains the active ingredient Torasemide, which is a loop diuretic, used to reduce the amount of fluid in the body and lower blood pressure.

Side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness and dehydration.

On top of the medications that can lower his blood pressure, if he is getting dehydrated due to this last one, that could also be causing or contributing to his problem.

He should really discuss this with his doctor, as he probably needs some of the dosages changed.

Thanks so much for this detailed reply and explanation. Since the last couple of days my father had a cough, cold and diarrhea (loose motions).

Are these symptoms of side effects of carvedilol? My father has been on carvedilol since last month. Earlier he was on Lanoxin, candesar-4, ismo (isosorbide mononitrate).

kman, yes, if he started the Carvedilol that recently, it is more than likely the cause of those symptoms, it is usually right around 4 to 6 weeks of use that a medication hits its full effectiveness in the body and the most severe side effects manifest.

The problem with the cough from them is that, for many people, it usually doesn't taper off, like the other side effects do and can continue to bother them, as long as they continue to take this medication, so he really needs to contact his doctor.

Is there anything else I can help with?

Thanks a lot for the prompt reply! The treating cardiologists have different opinions here. The new cardiologist says to continue carvedilol since its THE only treatment fir CCF and dilated isvhaemic heart disease patients but the previous cardiologist says not to put him on carvedilol since it will aggravate the condition. We started him on carvedilol but father is getting these side effects. Can't make out whether it's due to the weather change or diet or this drug? I'm in fix.both the cardiologists are on vacation. Father had loose stools since past one day. It's subsiding now but he feels very weak. Can you suggest any food which can help increase his stamina and provide energy. He has type II diabetes. Many thanks. I really feel relieved to share my problem thru this site and get prompt response.

Kman, where are you located?

Carvedilol is not the only beta blocker that is available to treat that condition, the specific ones that are available can vary from location to location, but there are others in this class that are on the market.

One of those would be Propranolol:

And for others you can look at the information at this link:

As to his energy, I am really not sure what to suggest, although a multivitamin supplement may help:

Although if you get one that contains calcium, you have to make sure he takes it, at least 2 hours before or after his prescription medications, because it can affect their absorption.

Any other questions?

Thanks Verwon! Your inputs helped. I'm at mumbai India. Would like to discuss my fathers case with you and get your advise. We can shift him to a better facility abroad once he stabilizes. Dr's here have given up on the treatment and are pushing us for interventional procedure and also have scared us that any surgical procedure even an angiography is life threatening to my father. We are apprehensive for any surgery at this stage. The previous treating cardiologist didn't give us any detail on my fathers problem and now when it's aggravated he's trying to run away and put us to a cardiac surgeon. I'm in a big predicament. Father is at home on bed rest. He can walk and do his daily routine. But the weakness and new drug side effects are bothering us. Thanks so much for your concern and. Response. I really appreciate. God bless.

Recent blood report of my father indicated a high level of potassium (8.2) and a low level of sodium - Does this indicate any renal impairment? Can it be controlled with diet? He's on diuretics and cardiac medications. Earlier, his creatinine was 1.6 and the recent one shows a decrease in the same (1.4).

Kavita, I'm sorry, but just from that limited information, it is going to be difficult for anyone to tell you whether or not he has any type of renal impairment.

The reason for this is because the medications he is on could be causing these problems. The Diuretics can cause a severe drop in Potassium and there are several things that could cause the elevation in sodium.

https://rxchat.com/wiki/Sodium/

Have his doctor's said what is causing it and what are they doing to rectify the situation?
