Buspar False Postives

Updated

i have a Health Science 9 panel drug test coming up and i take buspar, topamx and seroquel (and coming off of tramodol and soma after 6 months use due to back injury; all prescribed by a dr.) and i am worried that some or all of these will generate false postives...is this true and if so which ones...how do i prove i am not taking illicit drugs? what's the best way to get off the tramodol and soma without having withdrawls...thanks :)

Just about any substance or medication can produce a false positive if the drug test is faulty or insufficient. On the cheaper, less reliable tests, it seems anything is possible. To my knowledge, false positives are known to occur on them anywhere from 4 to 50% of the time.

If you are truly concerned about a false positive, I would strongly suggest asking about getting tested with a gas chromatograph mass spectrometer. This has the ability to distinguish the exact substance in question, but is not initially performed because of cost and is often a follow-up option for those facing serious consequences such as a job loss or jail time. I think companies who don't use this method right off the bat are just too scared to spend a little extra money for the right results.

To answer your other question: Usually for drugs like those, the safest way to stop taking them is to tapper off them, if possible. Some medications can be taken in fractions (actually cut into pieces) and these smaller pieces can be taken in place of the regular dose for a period of several weeks until the body is no longer dependent upon them.

I hope this info helps!
