Benefiber Recall

Updated

The pharmacist at ourPunta Gorda FL. Wal-mart said the benefiber was recalled. The shelves are empty. Also empty shelves at our Publix store. Do you know anything about this?

Yes the product manufacturer, Novartis, has some problems with it's manufacturing facility and they have been forced to remove several products from the market, until the problem is rectified, because they may be contaminated.

Learn more dietary fiber information here.

There should be generics, or store brands available. Have you tried one of those?

No I do not know of any thing else that is clear & tastless. All others I have taken are clumpy & nasty. If you can sugest something, that will be GREAT.

WalMart has the Equate brand that is the same active ingredient as Benefiber and it works the same way. It is also less expensive. I dont find the single packets

No it does not work the same way. I've tried it an others and it's not the same. Doesn't make sense, but I'll take Benefiber with its "contamination" over that stuff.

Novartis is leaking significant quantities of Benefiber and successfully making four times the profit they were when they were in full production on a fraction of the supply. This is evidenced by the still available, but low quantities and exorbitant prices on ebay, Amazon, etc.

I've wondered what is going on with Benefiber. I've missed it too. I saw the eBay 30-40 bucks a box and I was like what is going on here. Thanks for the info I didn't think to ask the Pharmacist. I don't like metamucil and all the rest of them now. Something about benefiber just settles my stomach...

I don't believe that Novartis has resumed production of Benefiber as of this date. HOWEVER, I have found that Costco has started selling a product that I believe is identical to Benefiber. It is called Kirkland Signature "OPTIFIBER". It's ingredients are "Wheat Dextrin" with less than 20 ppm gluten. It is the same color, disolves completely and is tasteless just as Benefiber was. You might want to get a bottle and check it out. I've been using it for over a month and believe it is the same thing. You can buy OPTIFIBER from Costco Online for $16.99 for a 25.6 oz. bottle. It is also available in their warehouses.

I think Novartis benefiber and Nestle Resource Benefiber are the same product.......look it up for yourself or ask the Pharmacist where you shop. Nestle Sciences purschased the Health and Science division from Novartis a couple of years ago, Gerber, Optifast and Resource.......

Benefibre is inulin, and it is available in nonflavored bulk at most drugstores, no taste, totally clear, don't even know it is in my drink, but if you want flavor in your water, Crystal Light has flavored packets, they are yummy, and 3g of inulin per serving.

I have a large supply of benefiber I bought at Costco last year. Not expired. Is it safe to use?

I've tried Life brand "Clearly Fibre" which tastes identical and has the same ingredients. The best part is that you can get it at Shoppers Drug Mart a few dollars cheaper, like $11 or sometimes even $8 on sale.

Went to all the stores couldn't find Benefibre anywhere, so I bought something called Fiberrific at Pharmasave. It desolved totally in water and has no flavor. About the same price as Benefibre. So I guess for now that will have to do.

Try Fibertrin. They have both caplets and capsules that are made with the same active ingredient that benefiber is made of; 100% water soluble fiber from wheat dextrin.
