Bendectin And Birth Defects (Page 4)

Updated

I took this drug in the 1970's while pregnant. Am looking for the side effects to the babies. Drug has been off the market for many years. Not sure on correct spelling. Used for nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. Thank you for any help you can send me. Sincerely, Dana.

I took Bendictine in 1979 and 1980 and had a girl and a boy. Both have gifted I.Q.'s and excelled in sports. No birth defects and no major health problems. Could it be a coincidence that those responding with children with birth defects took Bendictine. Would these children have had those birth defects anyways. We will never know because you can't go back in time. However, I had a friend who lost twins because she was so sick and her doctor would not prescribe Bendictine. I could not have functioned without it. No grandchildren yet, but that is by choice.

I took Benedictine in 1978. My daughter was born in July of 97. She has had 2 surgeries for endometriosis and had a hard time getting pregnant. She has two beautiful daughters and had one miscarriage in between. Last year she was diagnoised with Raynaud's Syndrome caused by Rheumatoid arthritis. I've always wondered if taking Beneictine caused these problems for her. After I had taken it, I had heard about a mother who sued the drug company, because her son was bone with birth defects.

My mother took benedictine in 1978 during her pregnancy with me. She doesn't recall how long she was taking this drug. Although I was due September 9th, I wasn't born until September 28,1978 and had multiple defects. My mother contacted March of Dimes for help, but was rejected. I do not know the reason for denial.

I was born with developmental dysplasia of the hip, functional discrepancy of the legs, metatarsus adductus of both feet, and an innocent heart murmur.

The heart murmur self corrected and thankfully my parents were able to correct all the above problems with physical therapy and orthopedic appliances.

I had to have speech therapy in my preschool years due to impediments, glasses at age 7 due to severe near-sightedness, and was diagnosed with a slight hearing loss in both ears during grade school years. No treatment was done for the hearing loss, it wasn't severe enough. After many years of problems with concentration and impulsiveness, I was diagnosed with ADD at age 13 and put on Ritalin. The drug did not help and I took myself off of it after one year.

When puberty came at age 14, I developed heavy cramping during menstrual flow. When I started taking birth control at age 17, this was greatly reduced to only need an occasional ibuprofen . At age 23 I was pregnant with my first daughter. I was told that I had a tipped uterus and could cause problems with menstruation and pregnancy. After having my second daughter at age 27, I had
menorrhagia that lasted for months at a time. I was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome at age 31 and had hydrothermablation to alleviate the symptoms. I can no longer have children due to this procedure.

So, although I went through hell during my childhood, most of my problems have been corrected. The hip displasia is still there, and usually causes no pain or symptoms unless I lay on my side and do scissor kicks. I can feel it pop out of place and causes only slight discomfort. I do have lumbar back pain, but I have epidural injections twice a year and this helps tremendously. One foot is almost a half size smaller, but causes no problems finding shoes. The nearsightedness is still there, and I am contemplating having Lasik surgery to get rid of my glasses. My hearing loss doesn't need the help of hearing aids yet, but I cannot hear low pitched sounds. The ADD is still there, and I am not on any medications at this time. My menorrhagia is completely gone, not one period since february 2010.

I took this drug in 1981. My daughter was born with CP and many other disablitities. The company finally removed the med off the market and a case action lawsuit was filed against them.

I took this drug in 1978 and 1979. My son has had many problems with learning disibilities when he was in school and has recently been diagnosed with bipolar. My daughter has had two surgeries for severe endometriosis and is currently attempting IVF. She too has had extreme menstrual cycles. It is extremely frightening to read all of these posts. Where there is this much smoke, there has to be a fire.

I took the drug in 1979; I was extremely sick during the pregnancy and I took it steadily for months and months. My daughter was born with severe brain deformities and some physical abnormalities. How would we ever get the records to prove we took a drug 30 years ago? I would love to be involved in a lawsuit in order to better provide for my daughter who will need constant care for the rest of her life.

How do you go about gathering proof when doctors are now retired, clinics move etc. Does anyone know where to start? Physically the kids and their kids are still suffering no body can deny the facts so now what?

In 67-68 I took Bendectin for nine months but held off any meds until 10 wks of pregnancy had passed to be on the safe side. I would not have survived the pregnancy without Bendectin. I subsequently lost two babies at 2 wks and 3 mths gestation due to vomiting. My son did not sit up until he was 8 mths old then he stood up and walked around the playpen. He crawled at 4 mths (!) but dragged his legs around as if they were paralised. He developed a stutter which has only just subsided at 42 yrs old and had epilepsy in his teens. I think we were lucky because I rue the day I had to take it.

Why was there so many cases of un-bearable nausea with pregnant women between the 60's and 70's? Could this manufacturer Dow also be the same producer of agent orange and pesticides? Yes why it just so happens that they are, along with being one of the richest companies in the world.....

I was born in Chicago in 1978, and my mother had taken Bendectin. Like many other pregnant women during that time, she was handed two prescriptions at her first Obstetrician appointment: Prenatal Vitamins and Bendectin. She had severe morning sickness, so she filled the Bendectin and took it throughout her pregnancy. I was born with a a cleft lip, cleft palate, and now I'm facing knee replacement surgery on both legs (Rightie is going first in two weeks!). Have any other "Bendectin Babies" been plagued with knee and/or joint issues?

I was born with a hand deformity after my mother too the drug. Although it sounds minor in comparison to some other comments posted here, a birth defect it a terrible thing to have to live with. It effects confidence & relationships, both in the work place & personal life. I would love to find out some information on any class action lawsuits, caused by Benedictine.
