Belivq Questions

Updated

Hey, all. I started Belivq on 11/26/14, it is now 12/3/14. I know that is not a lot of time. I am an eighteen year old girl, in college full time plus working full time. I weigh 210. I haven't lost a single pound. I don't know if it works or if I need more time. I Am going through depression, have been for two years. I also have a slightly elevated thyroid. My questions are: how long does this medicine usually take to be in effect? Since I am full time, the only things I eat are sugars and whatnot, how can I change my diet while on a college fund(in debt, not a lot of money)? I also have adhd so can I take my adderall with this drug? Should I keep going on Belivq or should I stop taking it.

Hello, Patience! How are you? I'm sorry that it doesn't seem to be working for you.

Are you on any other medications? Some, such as antidepressants and thyroid medications can cause weight gain, as side effects. And, if your weight elevation is caused by another medication, it isn't likely to change, as long as you're still taking it.

Additionally, you might be dealing with some weight gain from the elevated thyroid levels, that is a very common symptom of it.

There can be dangers from taking Belviq with the Adderall, since they both have an affect on Serotonin, which could cause Serotonin Syndrome. So, they shouldn't be taken together, if there are other possible medication options. Have you discussed taking them both with your doctor?

Belviq may cause side effects, such as nausea, headache, depression and anxiety.

I would like to address your diet; what you are eating of course and also be sure to include some form of exercise to your daily routine! These are very very important when trying to lose weight!

I have what I call my go-to foods which change when things are on sale or my taste buds want a change! Since I live alone, it is not important that I make large meals for me or anyone else! Through experimenting, I put together a variety of different types of yogurt which I make from 0% fat free greek yogurt! I purchase a large greek 32oz. yogurt and divide it in half. I will freeze half to keep it fresh and then leave the other half in my refrigerator as my go to food. The yogurt is much cheaper when purchasing like this! I start with 1/2 cup of my yogurt and add 1/4 cup of very vanilla almond milk or sometimes I will use very vanilla soy milk. The very vanilla gives it flavor as well as other good proteins adding a minimum amount of calories. It is also more filling since I get 3/4 of a cup instead of only 1/2. I will then add to that just a little dried shaved coconut! The coconut will last a very long time like this. It is inexpensive and I love it as much or more than fresh coconut in my yogurt like this. I change the yogurt flavor by adding different fruits to it which are in season at a reasonable price! (blueberry's strawberry's, raspberries, pineapple) ( pineapple with the coconut is especially good ... pina colada ) I can change that up as well by adding a little bit of granola or healthy substitute! Many times I will have the yogurt as a snack and put it in the freezer and let it freeze .... stirring it every 15 or 20 minutes until it is how I like it or I don't want to wait any longer. (lol) When I purchase fruit I will immediately freeze some of it if there is too much to be eaten in a few days and use it in smoothies. For the smoothies I use fruit which I have frozen and yogurt, whatever very vanilla milk that I have on hand and some type of juice (cherry is great) and some ice! To sweeten it I will add a low cal sweetener and some honey! A good blender is necessary and the smoothie can almost be a meal by itself! The almond milk and soy milk lasts much longer than regular milk.and can also be frozen for freshness! I will also take the very vanilla soy milk and add just a little to regular 1% milk to give it a nice vanilla flavor for drinking! . I keep fresh fruits and vegetables on hand and for lunch I might have some canned tomato soup made with half 1% milk and the other half water! Then I might add a vegetable or salad with low fat dressing for many are very affordable and much better choices for your plate both in terms of calories and the nutritional value they offer! A few examples is .. (Asparagus) is quick and easily salted a little bit and sauteed with a little butter. When it i how I like it I will then add just a pinch of sugar in the pan with it and it is done a couple of minutes later! (tomatoes and sweet peppers) I just dice them up and mix them together and eat! (no cooking) or I will add them to my salad with low calorie dressing! Lastly, I almost never purchase canned vegetables because frozen vegetables are my second choice if I do not purchase fresh!

It is important that you find foods that are easy to prepare which are good for you and lower in callosities than these high sugary foods that you are eating to often!

If you make sure that you have foods available which can be your go-to foods, it is much easier to pass on those junk foods easier because you will not feel like you are depriving yourself of something you like!

Lastly, exercise does not mean you have to be running a 7 minute mile or even at the gym. If you just walk for 1/2 hour a couple of times per day you would be surprised at the difference it would make! I hope this can give you a little help somewhere! I had went from 140 lbs to 180 and in 1 year without going hungry or feeling like I had deprived myself, I lost 28 lbs and am now down to 152. I had been gaining for a few years and am very pleased at the progress I have made in the past year ... especially because I am a chronic pain patient and can only do low impact exercise (in water or floor exercises) leg lifts, stretches, ect.

First of all, in rebuttal to the second poster, taking Adderall with Belviq is not contradicted, as Adderall does NOT affect serotonin. Adderall is a stimulant that affects norepinephrine and dopamine reuptake, and thus, will not have any synergistic effect that could contribute to serotonin syndrome.

Secondly, I'm curious to know if you are taking Belviq once or two times daily. Belviq, as your doctor might have told you, can induce depression in a small minority of people. If your depression has been getting worse while taking Belviq, I would talk to your dr. I've noticed that most people who've had some mood issues on Belviq usually even out after a couple weeks, along with some of the other side effects.
Since I'm curious myself about how Belviq affects mood, please give us an update.

Lastly, as you probably know, stimulants can also adversely affect mood (especially during rebound). As a depression sufferer myself, this has been my own experience.

Well you don't expect the pill alone to make you lose weight. It's an appetite suppressant. You need to exercise in order to get the full effect
