Bad Constipation

Updated

I am a 20 year old female. 3 years ago I was diagnosed with "chronic constipation." I have a bowel movement probably 1-2 times a week. I have had 2 colonoscopies and a flex sig done, and everything appeared to be normal. I have tried every remedy there is: fruit, fiber, laxs, stool softener, enema, exercise, and nothing seems to do the trick. Recently my dr started me on Linzess. I have been taking it for 2 weeks now. So far my bowel movements have not improved while taking Linzess. I spoke with my dr and they suggested that I add miralax to my daily routine along with Linzess. I have not had any improvement with my bowel movements while taking miralax and linzess. Can anyone give me advice or their input? Has anyone else had the same issues? I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM ANYONE!! PLEASE AND THANK YOU :-)

Are you making sure to take it in the morning, with water, a full half hour before eating or drinking anything else?

While it doesn't work for everyone, some people didn't know that they had to take it that way and had more success once they started doing so.

However, if you already are, it could be that this medication just doesn't work for you.

Does anyone else have any advice or ideas?

The FDA lists the typical side effects of Linzess as possibly including nausea, dizziness, bloating and diarrhea.

Your experience mirrors my daughter's, same age and diagnosis except my daughter doesn't go at all anymore without inducing it herself. She had no luck with Linzess for a month, OR with Amitiza for the last 10 days. Amitiza landed her in the ER yesterday with severe shortness of breath. The doctor finally called back tonight and said it's back to Linzess with Miralax and a low-fiber diet. Tonight her doctor also told her to drink a bottle of magnesium citrate followed by another bottle tomorrow...so far no luck except for extreme nausea and gurgling guts. The only thing that has helped her in the past three months is multiple liquid glycerin suppositories, which is so uncomfortable. If you find an answer, will you kindly reply? I'll do likewise.

I could not go at all after my GI Dr. Put me on Nortriptoline for IBS/C BAD CALF and ABDOMEN PAIN. A God sent. I had been in pain for 3 months. Tears for 3 months awful. So then I got constipated again. Ugh. Couldn't go at all. So I was doing an enema every three days. They worked great. Tried Delcolax pink. But if I take two I have severe diarrhea. Soo my PCP said he's fine with me doing enemas the rest of my life because I can not give up the nortriptoline. Just went to my GI. to get a second opinion but In the mean time my Friend told me to try taking my 2 PROBIOSTICS at night instead of am. FYI I also take a chiropractor prescribed ProSynbiotic probiotic. Saved my life. Sooo I went everyday after that for a month. Then it stopped so GI said he's fine with a enema lax active alternating. I do only 1 delcolax pink. Too much diarrhea is awful too. If I do get dehydrated I drink Gatorade. He also told me to take it 20 mins instead of 30 mins b4 I eat. Then I told him that's not working either. He said move it up to 10mins. B4 I eat. Now I take it with my meal. At least I go. There is several BM'S of straight diarrhea. I need to set a timer and stay at exact 10mins or even 5. But I'd rather go than not at all. Hope this helps.
Now my question to you is I'm having EXTREME FATIGUE. I don't know how long. I'm too confused.
Is anyone fatigued with IBS OR LINZESS OR A COMBINATION OF BOTH. IM SO TIRED I WANT TO THROW UP. AWFUL BECAUSE I HAVE TO WORK. I OWN MY OWN BUSINESS.

I have the exact same situation as you do. The 145mcg linzess did not do much. I switched to the higher dose of 290mcg and it has helped tremendously. Ask your doctor to prescribe the 290mcg capsules.

I am suffering from fissure pain with constipation and much pressure during the first bowel movement. During the second bowel movement, it is liquid, undigested food with severe pain and itching around the whole rectal area and buttocks. The itching has caused rashes and wounds to where I cannot sit. I am under the treatment of a dermatologist and gastroenterologist since 3 years. Life has become hell. Kindly help.
