Azmacort Substitute (Page 6)

Updated

Azmacort has been taken off the market because of environmental concerns (they say). There really is NO substitute. All other steroids do not work. My wife could die because of it. No one seems to care. Do you?

I posted prior about my Grandmother and how it took her forever to find and use Azmacort to begin with many years ago and going through doctor and hospital visits constantly because she was completely unable to breath at the time!! Now with the whole issue with Abbott being so lazy that they could not even have the azmacort ready with a TEN YEAR Notice!! Its been about 2 months now with her dealing with this problem and trying for solutions! ( FIRST I WANT TO THANK ALL OF YOU WHO REPLIED TO MY POSTS AND OFFERED YOUR HELP AND YOUR SYMPATHY?EMPATHY) We greatly appriciate it!! For a while she was stuck using Azmnex, which believe it or not works very, very, very well!! It just happens to have one major problem that we can't get around!!! It does not have a perpellant to dicharge the medication! In order for it to work you need to use your own lung power to inhale the measured dose!! That would be the equivalent of a person with very little use of their legs to run a mile for his medication to work!!! Some one was obviously not thinking during the production process!!! She really tried to make it work, even to the poit of using a straw to try and inhale it, but it just wasn't going to happen!!- Then she had a chest x-ray along with my grandfather and because she had tried so hard to make that medicine work and it was never getting any where close to where she neded it in her lungs her emphazima got twice as bad and she developed C.O.P.D. also she nor my grandifather have ever smoked or drank at all in their lives!!!! Any way the doctor put both of them on symbacort tward the middle of april,2010, and while it worked amazinly for my grandfather, it just made my Grandmother dizzy and nautious!! So Now finally she is using flovent I believe it is called and so far it seems to be working great! But only time will tell if it stays that way!! If abbott only would not be so damn lazy and sel-fish! I might be wrong but it really bothers me when people mess with my grandparents lives and their quality of life!! She is cautious enough to still have a full presrciption of Azmacort just to be on the safe side!!!!

Deceed, I am very sorry to hear of the problems your grandmother is having and Jack, very sorry to hear about June. We hope all is well with everyone.

I understand your frustration when a medication that worked so well if pulled from the market. I don't know if we can call this selfish, because this site does not know the reasons it is no longer being made. It may have to do with sales or it could be due to safety concerns of some type.

Deceed, here's the link to more information on Flovent:

Here is info on Qvar for Carol:

Gretchen and Verwon:

Thank you for you concern. My appreciation is not just a casual acceptance. Love you for it.

We were all amazed yesterday when June was able to go to church, teach her kids in Sunday School, sing in the choir and attend evening services as well. I don't think too many people saw me weeping as I captured what I could of the old times. She felt lousy but she sure looks good - especially to me.

We go to our family physician today and her new Cardiologist tomorrow to fine tune what they can.

I can't help but watch her when she sleeps to see if she is still breathing. We have had two men in our church lose their wives last month. They say these things happen in threes. I do not believe that but nonetheless it messes with my mind.

It is very hard to get ready to be willing to let her go if the Lord wants to take home the very best thing He has given me in this life. She is a fellow heir of the grace of life (1 Pet 3:7) to me in marriage. Her belief in John 3:16 is real. I don't know how anyone copes with the finality of life without Christ. I know where she is going. if it happens, she will just have to wait until it is my turn.

What you wrote was beautiful about your wife. Brought tears to my eyes. I would hope that God does not take away what is the most dear to you. You both are in my prayers!

These different inhalers , such as Flavent, Ovar, Symbicort, Advair, etc., which are being tested to try and find an inahler that might help us survive breathing crises -- is worthy

If President Obama personally knew about this medical crisiis
that is starting to afect many of use due to Abbott closing out
Azmacort, I believe Obama with a call to Abbott's CEO White-- he would be happy to help..
Thank you.

Just arrived back from Hawaii. Qvar worked the whole time even with the trade winds blowing. Felt the best I have in months. Now I will have to wait and see how I feel now that we are back in Oregon.

Jack, I pray every night for you and June. God Bless You Both!!!

Carol

Thank you. Concern for others takes us out of ourselves a little bit and helps our own well-being.

When we see the beauty in Hawaii and in a lot of places in the US (Oregon coast where you are, for instance) we tend to forget we are living on a cursed earth - not many people living to be 900 these days.

Although most of it came up from below (Gen. 7:6, 10, 11), we've lost our protective covering of water vapor from outer space radiation - and it effects our reading of carbon14 dating among many other things.

But when the ocean floor sank, and the water receded (Gen. 8:2, 3, 5), it carved out and left behind a lot of beauty. The receding water changed he topography to give us things we did not have before (Gen. 8:22)

June is getting a heart catheter on Wednesday to see if there is a blockage somewhere they can clear up so that more Oxygen can get into her system. All of this asthma thing has side effects as you know.

God bless you and your wife. I truely hope she gets better. I too have been struggling with trouble breathing and side effects like back pain, headaches and insomnia. Advair 250/50 seems to work the best for me, but I can get rid of the back pain, so now it time to try another. I found Azmacort for sale at calimeds.com , does anyone know how this is possible? or ordered from them? Is it safe? I sent an email with no response (maybe it got go in spam like mentioned). I also found it on another website northdrugmart.com but the dosing indicated 75mcg. Spoke with them on online chat and they indicated it's Azmacort. It expensive, but Jack maybe it worth a try for your wife.

Thank you for sharing these details Anne - I always recommend using discretion when obtaining medications from the internet ... never use a check or western union, always try to pay with an actual credit card. That way if they send you a fake product or don't fulfill the order it is easy to reverse the charge with your bank. On the other hand, if other places are able to offer Azmacort it might be a really good thing for people. I guess it boils down to following one's instincts and common sense as to whether it is a possibility or not...

Roy and Anne:

As far as I know, Abbott Labs are the only people who made Azmacort. I did talk to them and they verified they ceased making it available as of December. They are in agreement with the Montreal Accord of December 23, 2007. If you click on the sort by just above the last entry you will get the early history of what we tried to do.

I would proceed with caution. There are some really clever but really bad people who would use your information to get into your bank account. They take advantage of people who are desperate or stressed in some way. They are pitiless.

Yes, they will pay dearly for what they are doing - but that is in the sweet bye-and-bye. Right now, there is no fear of God in their eyes because they don't believe He exists. I would not want to be in their shoes if you gave me the entire Universe.

All I am saying ins, check it out carefully before you place an order. Check to see if this is an old ad that should have been removed by now or check to see if they are legit.

I don't even have asthma, but have suffered from a chronic cough for 7 years. I could barely have a conversation except in the summertime when the cough went away for 3 months. I was treated for everything from acid reflux, post nasal drip, and a whole host of allergy medications. My new doctor prescribed azmacort on the third try and by the second day all my symptoms went away. It worked so well that I only needed a hit once every two or three days. You can imagine my chagrin went Abbot discontinued Azmacort. We have now tried 3 different powder substitutes none of which are effective. I would like to hear from anyone with a similar story to see if you have found an alternative. I will contact Abbott. Thanks!

Yes I care, I am on it also, an now I am worried sick about what I'm going to do, its the only thing they have put me on that actually helped in the past 4 years.

Sandy, Barbara and Breathfreely:

Some people have a problem with he powder substitutes. Early on in this (blog?) we suggested Advair HFA. The reason why Azmacort was taken off the market is because it used a CFA carrier. The HFA does not seem to poke a hole in the ozone layer that some folks are worried about.

Hi there. I finally found all of you. Well, things have been working pretty well for me on the Qvar. I don't know if it is because the weather has changed or what, but I am feeling better and my asthma has not acted up. It didn't even act up in Hawaii. It has been really rainy here in Oregon and that has kept the pollen down. Had an allergy attack two days ago, but that seems to have gone away now that rains are back. Not much coughing either. Jack how is your wife doing? Hope to hear how everyone else is doing as well.

the pulmicort did not work out for me. crashed and burned. ended up on prednisone and switched to asmanex. asmanex is easier on the lungs but still not getting full relief. not even with the pred. after 20 years i am being sent back to an allergist and asthma specialist. how stupid is this. just because of the cfc law and the discontinuing of a great drug. my entire life is on hold and upside down.
