What is the medication known as 'Astin' used for?

I've been taking prescription Astin 20 mg at night for the last 6 months and I still do not know what it is used for. Please inform me of its uses and side effects.

Astin contains the active ingredient Pravastatin, which is used to help lower cholesterol, as well as to treat or try to prevent the cardiac problems associated with blocked arteries.

Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and joint/muscle aches.
